James Oscar SURRETT, a51yrs died on April 23, 1917 after being shot, for reportedly making whiskey, near Antlers, OK. he died at his brothers home William R. SURRETT a62y in Jumbo, Oklahoma. [no ZIP listing for Jumbo, OK. ..prs] He is buried in the Antlers cemetery. [REF:#002]
Pushmataha Co., OK. was created in 1907, from the Choctaw Lands. The County Seat Antlers, OK., 73523. It is located in the Southeastern part of the State. Bounded by Latimer Co., on the North; Le Fore Co. on the Northeast; McCurtian Co., on the West; Choctaw Co., OK. on the South; (Lamar Co., TX. south of Choctaw Co., OK) Atoka Co. on the West. (Not living in the 1910 Family Unit!) 2. 1st Son: Jim W.orB., a42y b. 1878 AL. Not Traced! This 1920 Census is the last record found of this family.! There oldest child William R. Surrett was involved in establishing the first Church of Christ church in the community of Antlers, and it has been told that he helped establish several churches in the area. He was also active in forming the first local republican party in southeastern Oklahoma. He also was very active in purchasing real estate in the Antlers area.
