1767 LAND WARRANT |
As mentioned before, ALPHONSUS SARRATT, age 27 received the deed dated 16 May 1767, for the 50 acre Plantation called "Thomas Inheritance" in Prince George's Co., MD. from his father JOSEPH, 2 SARRATT. One of the Witness was father-in-law JOHN HARRISON [REF:#90] Pg8 |
1773 Re-SURVEY of 1775 DEED |
[REF:#90] Pg8
In 1773, ALPHONSUS SARRATT, age 33, came before the Prince
George's Court and "prayed" to enlarged his 50 acre land
"Thomas Inheritance" tract.
ALPHONSUS SARRATT of Prince George's County by his
Petition did set forth that he has seized in fee of and in a
tract... called 'Thomas' Inheritance', lying and being partly in
Prince George's County and partly in Charles County originally on
the 13th. day of June 1734 granted to RICHARD BEAN for 50
acres... Which was conveyed to JOSEPH, 2 SARRATT, on June,
1753... Which was conveyed to ALPHONSUS SARRATT, on 16th May
1767.... The said ALPHONSUS SARRATT has discovered some vacant
land and being desirous to add the same, humbly pray's for a
special Warrant to resurvey...
It is Certified that the aforesaid tract is to be re- surveyed to 56 1/2 acres and will be called 'Thomas Inheritance Enlarged', near tracts of land called 'Bartons Hope' and 'Whitson Monday'. The Certificates of Resurvey returned to the land office on the 19th. day of Nov. 1773 and stated that ALPHONSUS SARRATT was to pay the rent at the City of St. Marys at the usual feast days. Certified from under my hand and seal this 15th day of June 1775. Robt. Eden { Seal } Governor and Commander in Chief of Maryland |
(This tract was just off the old Horsehead Road leading
from St. Paul's Episcopal Church South into Charles County. Parish
records indicate ALPHONSUS SARRATT remained a member of that church
even after it was disestablished in 1776 by the Maryland Declaration
of Rights.
Although ALPHONSUS SARRATT'S property 'Thomas Inheritance Enlarged', was registered in Prince George's Co., he appeared in the Charles County Census of 1775 to 1778 where he was listed in the Benedict Hundred. As mentioned above this property overlapped both counties. prs (See Hundreds Map) |
About 1785, it is believed [REF:#90] Pg9 that ALPHONSUS SARRATT, age 45
and wife ANN (HARRISON) SARRATT, moved their family north, up to
the Oxon Hundred Section, of Prince George's Co. ALPHONSOS "Francis" SARATT, b. c1740, age 45 Wife: ANN (HARRISON), b. c1755, age 30 1st Son: JOSIAS, b. c1774, age 11 2nd Son: DICKERSON, b. c1775, age 10 3rd Son: JOHN H.,1 b. c1776, age 5 4th Son: HENRY B., b. c1778, age 7 5th Son: NATHANIEL, b. c1779, age 6 Only Dau: SARAH, b. c1784, age 1 |
It is the opinion of JAMES O. HALL [REF:#90] Pg9 Researcher and Historian, that the ALPHONSUS SARRATT family, probably came to work for the RICHARD NEAL, (c1770-c1843) age 15?, Family estate at the "Foxhill" and perhaps assisted in the operation of the Grist Mill on Oxon Run. The Vestry Minutes of the Broad Creek Church show that they paid support to the parish and that they were Communicants. |

In [REF:#90] Pg9, they state that: "...it is interesting to note that JOHN HARRISON was living with the ALPHONSUS SARRATT family in this 1790 Census...." There is no evidence to prove that this HARRISON was a relative, but the HARRISON name was well used in this SARRATT family from this time on. This writer could not find JOHN HARRISON living with this family Unit, the only John HARRISON, was living on Page 292, with Wife & 1 Son... prs |

In [REF:#90] Pg9 indicates that The Widow Mrs. ANN (HARRISON) SARRATT
and family were enumerated next to RICHARD NEAL, and Wife SARAH
(TALBERT) NEAL, who later raised Squire John Harrison SURRATT, Sr. (c1813-1862) Based on other records SARAH (TALBERT) NEAL wasn't born until c1792, this would maker her a married women of 8 years old in this 1800 Census?. prs |
