Dewey G. Akins, age 82, formerly of Westmoreland died Monday, June 21, 1982, at the Southern Hill Hospital in Nashville. He was a member of the Radner Baptist Church, Lessing Lodge no. 464 F & A M, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite N.M.J. Valley, Evansville, Indiana. He is survived by his wife, Susie H. Akins, Nashville; one brother, Cordell Akins, Westmoreland and two sisters, Fola Dennis, Tell City, Indiana and Manerva Law, Gallatin. Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 23, at the Alexander Funeral Home in Westmoreland with burial in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

Cecil Helson, age 61, of Westmoreland, died Sunday, June 27, 1982 at the Sumner County Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Syble M. Doss Helson; one daughter, Patricia Presley, Westmoreland; three sons, Roger Helson, Adolphus, Bobby Helson and Hollis Helson, both of Westmoreland and one brother, Arcie Helson, Bethpage. Nine grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 29, at the Alexander Funeral Home in Westmoreland with burial in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

Mrs. Ida C. Tuttle, age 92, of Westmoreland, died Wednesday, June 23, at the Sumner County Memorial Hospital. She is survived by one daughter, Belah Eden, Westmoreland, and one son Lloyd Tuttle of Indianapolis. Three sisters, Mrs. Hattie Eaton, Gallatin; Mrs. Laura Walton, Westmoreland, and Mrs. Etta Perkins of Plainfield, Indiana, survive. Other survivors include four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Friday, June 25, at the Alexander Funeral Home in Westmoreland. Burial was in the Caldwell Cemetery.

James A. Camplin, age 73, was dead on arrival at Macon County General Hospital Tuesday, June 29. The Route 2, Westmoreland man is survived by his wife Lassie E. Camplin, Westmoreland, and one son, David Camplin, Cottontown. Also surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Betty Jones, Cottontown, Mrs. Jeannette Brinkley, White House, Mrs. Brenda Jones, White House; one brother Edward Camplin, White House; one sister Mrs. Drucilla Broadrick, Cottontown and 13 grandchildren. Funeral services were held Thursday, July 1st at Alexander Funeral Home Chapel with burial at White House.

Cirg Hoy Finn, Funeral services for Cirg Hoy Finn, 86, were held July 1, at Wilkinson and Wiseman Funeral Home. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Rapids, Kentucky. Finn, a resident of Route 6, Portland, Tennessee, died June 28, in Highland Hospital. He was a native of Simpson County Kentucky. Survivors include his wife, Racie Finn; two sons, Lewis Finn, Portland and James Finn, Westmoreland, one daughter, Shirley Brown, West Point, Utah; one brother, Spencer Finn, Franklin; two sisters, Mary Keith, Franklin, and Bonnie Mock, Rockford, Ohio; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Kenny Troutt, Funeral services for Kenny Troutt, Westmoreland, Tennessee, were held July 8, at Alexander Funeral Home. Burial was in McVernon Cemetery. Troutt, age 70, a native of Kentucky died July 6. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Jewell Troutt; two sons, Ray Allen Troutt, Ferndale, Michigan, Danny Troutt, Adolphus; three daughters, Mrs. Nancy Parrish, Westmoreland, Mrs. Carolyn Hobdy, Adolphus and Mrs. Brenda Bristes, Portland; two brothers, Delbert Troutt and Jessie Troutt, both of Bethpage.

Funeral services for Pat R. Williams, Route 3, Bethpage, were held July 9, at Alexander Funeral Home in Westmoreland. Williams, a retired merchant, died Wednesday, July 7, at the Sumner County Memorial Hospital in Gallatin. He was 85. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Annie H. Williams; two sons, T. W. Williams of Indianapolis, Indiana and Romas Williams of Bethpage; three daughters, Judy Lauderdale, Westmoreland, Betty Carmack and Willie Mai Williams, Bethpage; ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Burial was in Bradley Cemetery.

Carl W. Gilliam, 77, Westmoreland, died Saturday, July 17, at Sumner County Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Hassie Sadler Gilliam, Westmoreland; one son, Lowell "Bobby" Gilliam, Westmoreland; one brother, Paul G. Gilliam, Westmoreland and two sisters, Mrs. Gladys Brown, Westmoreland and Mrs. Loyce Perdue, Portland. Funeral services were held Monday, July 19, at Pleasant Grove Methodist Church under the direction of Alexander Funeral Home. Burial was in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

Survivors include one son, John Thomas Rains; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Jo Wells, Hopkinsville, Mrs. Patsy Ann Scianna, Hollywood, Florida; one brother, Joe Pike, Miami, Florida; three sisters, Mrs. Dean Cates and Mrs. Nell Russell, both of Portland and Mrs. Frances Hindricks, Goodlettsville; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Annie Elizabeth (Lizzie) Gann, age 77, a resident of Route 2, Bethpage, died Tuesday, August 10. She was a housewife and a member of the Maple Grove No. 3 Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors include one daughter, Juanita Moss, Bethpage, and six sons, J. T. Gann and Billy Gann, both of Westmoreland; Hazel Gann of Portland; Donald Gail Gann, Bridgeport, Alabama; Harold Gann, Gallatin and Roger Gann, Bethpage. Twenty-five grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Thursday, August 12, at 1:00pm, at the Maple Grove No. 3 Missionary Baptist Church with burial in the Cook Cemetery in Macon County. Alexander Funeral Home in Westmoreland was in charge of the arrangements.

Christine Carmen Meador, age 62, a resident of Route 3, Bethpage, died Monday, August 9, at Sumner County Memorial Hospital in Gallatin after a long illness. She was a retired school cook. Survivors include her husband Jessie Meador, two daughters, Joyce Eaglin, Indianapolis, and Ann Browning, Bethpage and one son, Johnny Meador, Hendersonville. She is also survived by two brothers John R. Daniel, Greenbrier and Ambrose Daniel, Portland. Four grandchildren and one great-grandchild survive. Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 11, at the Alexander Funeral Home in Gallatin with burial following in the Bradley Cemetery.

Fred Cannon, age 48, a resident of Locust Street, Westmoreland, died Monday, August 16, at the Sumner County Memorial Hospital. He was a game room operator. Survivors include a brother, Bob Cannon of Westmoreland and two sisters, Stella Carter, Westmoreland, and Ethyleen Caroland, Gallatin. Funeral services were Wednesday, August 18, at 2 pm at the New Hope Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery.

William Clark, 55, Indianapolis died Friday, August 20 in Indianapolis. He is survived by his wife, Margaret F. Clark, Indianapolis; his mother, Agnas Hayes Clark; one son, Robert Clark, Albany, NY and one step-son, David Lee Troutt, Indianapolis. Also surviving are two daughters, Sharon Clark and Angela Clark, both of Indianapolis; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Judy Clark and Mrs. Ann Smith, both of Indianapolis; two brothers, Richard and John Clark, both of Albany. Six grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 26 at 10 a.m. at Alexander Funeral Home in Westmoreland with burial in New Hope Cemetery.

Delbert A. Hammock, age 92, and a resident of Route 2, Bethpage, died Sunday, August 29, at the Sumner County Memorial Hospital in Gallatin, he was a retired farmer. Survivors include his wife, Cassie; five daughters, Mrs. Maybell Graves and Mrs. Dorothy Moss, both of Bethpage; Mrs. Gladys Bradley and Mrs. Viola Troutt, both of Westmoreland and Mrs. Louise Oldham, Gallatin; and seven sons, Virgil Hammock, Jess Hammock and Don Q. Hammock, all of Westmoreland; Guthery Hammock, Bethpage; Floyd Hammock, Gallatin; J. C. Hammock, Sacramento, Kentucky and James Hammock, Lexington, Kentucky. Two brothers, Lloyd Hammock of Westmoreland and Hurley Hammock of Hartsville, also survive. Sixty-eight grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren survive. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, September 1, at 10 am at the Siloam Missionary Baptist Church with burial following in the church cemetery. Alexander Funeral Home was in Westmoreland was in charge of arrangements.

Herman Simons, a resident of Route 2, Westmoreland, died at his home Wednesday, September 1. He is survived by his wife, Lillian, Westmoreland; seven sons, Garland, Marvin, Ernest, Douglas, Bobby, Randell and Billy Ray Simons, all of Westmoreland. Also surviving are three sisters, Mrs. Ethelene Akins, Indianapolis, Mrs. Susie Hall and Mrs. Lillian Graves, both of Westmoreland; 19 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Saturday, September 4, at Siloam Missionary Baptist Church with burial in Eulia cemetery.

Pauline W. Graves, Route 3, Westmoreland died Thursday, September 2 at Nashville Memorial Hospita. She was 59. She is survived by her husband, William, two sons, Donald Graves and Richard Williams, both of Westmoreland; one daughter, Mrs. Shirley Faulton, Westmoreland and five grandchildren. Also surviving are four brothers, Frank Williams, Portland, Junior, Bobby and Roger Williams, all of La Fayette, Indiana; and three sisters, Mrs. Willie Kay Lucas, Cocomo, Indiana; Mrs. Maggie Reece, La Fayette, Indiana and Mrs. Bonnie Tuttle, Bethpage. Funeral services were held Sunday, September 5, at Roberts' Tabernacle with burial in Fairfield Cemetery.

Mrs. Lillian May Wix, Route 2, Westmoreland, died Monday at the Quality Care Nursing Home in Lebanon. She was 71. Survivors include six sons: Jimmie and Jerry Wix of Westmoreland; David Wix of Lafayette, Harold Wix of Celina, Fred Wix of Jacksonville, Florida and Maxie Wix of Long Beach, California; five daughters, Mrs. Frances Slayton and Mrs. Peggy Mandrell of Westmoreland, Mrs. Shirley Carter of Centerville, Mrs. Melba Carter of Bethpage, Mrs. Barbara Smith of Pleasant Shade; one brother, Hildon Rutledge of Columbia; one sister, Mrs. Selma Hammock of Westmoreland. Thirty grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 7, at 2 pm at the Siloam Missionary Baptist Church with burial in the Pike Cemetery.

Funeral services for J. C. Carter, Route 1, Westmoreland were held Sunday, September 19, at Alexander Funeral Home. Carter, 52, died Friday September 17, at Sumner Memorial Hospital. He died Friday, September 17, at Sumner County Memorial Hospital. Survivors include his wife, Clara J. Morris Carter; a son, Charles Carter, Franklin, Ky.; two daughters, Cathy Blankenship and Karen Bonner, both of Westmoreland; four sisters; Frances Creasy and Hazel Coleman, Westmoreland; Hallie Brawnfield and Rebecca Wood, Scottsville, Ky.; eight grandchildren. Burial was in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.

Auto crash claims two lives - A two car collision claimed the lives of a Scottsville woman and a Westmoreland man Thursday night, September 16. Fatally injured in the crash were Alma Lorene Dodson, 62, a resident of 405 West Cherry Street, and Bobby L. Keen, 44, Route 1, Westmoreland, They were identified as the drivers of the two vehicles. The head-on collision occurred around 7:42 p.m. on U.S. Highway 31-E approximately one mile north of Westmoreland according to Sgt. Fred Dobbs of the Sumner County Sheriff Department. Dodson and Keen were pronounced dead at the scene by Sumner County Coroner Ray Green according to Sgt. Dobbs. They were pinned in the wreckage and rescue squads were called from Westmoreland and Lafayette. According to police the Dodson car was traveling north and the Keen vehicle was in the southbound lane when it apparently went out of control and crossed into the north bound lane. The accident was investigated by Tennessee Highway Patrol Officer Wayne Featherstone who was assisted by members of the Sumner County Sheriff Department.
Funeral services for Miss Dodson were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, September 19, at T. W. Crow and Son Funeral Home. She was the office manager of Washington Overall Manufacturing Company, Scottsville. Survivors include three sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Barger, Scottsville, Mrs. Alta Kelly, Madison, Tennessee and Mrs. Louise White, Reno, Nevada. Burial was in Crescent Hill Cemetery.
Funeral services for Keen were held at 11 a.m. Sunday, September 19, at T. W. Crow and Son Funeral Home with burial in Wolfe Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Janny Keen, Westmoreland; three step-daughters, Marjo Thomas, Carsbad, New Mexico, Tineke Fokkink and Corrie Sneep, both of The Netherlands; six sisters; Mrs. Mary Edna Keen, Adolphus, Mrs. Dorothy Burgett, Hot Springs, Arkansas, Mrs. Leonita Browner, Westmoreland, Mrs. Barbara Pardue, Lafayette, Tennessee, Mrs. Pattie Burgett, Scottsville, Mrs. Diane Scott, Gallatin; and three brothers, Raybon Keen, Adolphus, Richard Keen, Smyrna, Georgia and Eurlee Keen, White House, Tennessee.

Funeral services for Mrs. Vitae Dorris Brown, age 82, were held Friday, September 24, at Alexander Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Mrs. Brown died at her home, Wednesday, September 22. She is survived by her husband, Clarence Brown, Westmoreland; one son, Harold Dorris of Hillsboro, Tennessee; one daughter, Mrs. Ruby Abernathy, Nashville. She is also survived by four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The Sumner County native was a member of the Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church.

Mrs. Anna Ruth Cline, age 62, died Saturday, September 11 at Beene Nursing Home in Hartsville. She is survived by her husband, Cordell Cline; three sons, Jerry, David and Tony, all of Westmoreland; one daughter, Mrs. Tony Lambert, Westmoreland; eight grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday, September 13 at the Union Chapel General Baptist Church with burial in the Mt. Olive Cemetery. Mrs. Cline was a member of the Union Chapel General Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held for Mrs. Minnie Norris at Forrest Chapel Church with burial in the church cemetery, Thursday, September 16, at 1 pm. Mrs. Norris died Tuesday, September 14 at the Wallace Nursing Home in Gallatin. She was 55. She is survived by her mother, Lola Troutt and her husband Ray J. Norris, both of Bethpage; one son, Donald Ray Norris of Bethpage; six brothers, Carl and Leroy, both of Gallatin; Jack and Eugene, both of Bethpage; Rammie of Westmoreland and Cantrell of Old Hickory; three sisters, Mrs. Maidell Bell and Mrs. Roberta Akins, both of Westmoreland and Mrs. Gladys Dean McCloud, Old Hickory. She is also survived by one grandchild. Mrs. Norris was a member of Providence General Baptist Church.
