Robert Lanier SHANNON, 85, of Portland died on Saturday, December 24, 2005.  A Sumner County native, he was born on December 12, 1920 to the late Mary Ellen and Hugh Shannon.  He had served 18 years on the Sumner County Commission, 36 years on the Portland City Council, and had also served as vice mayor of Portland.  In 1999 he was on the Foundation Board of Trustees for Vol State Community College.  He operated Shannon Insurance and Real Estate and Shannon Enterprises.  He has been a member of The Lions Club for 45 years and was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, December 27, 2005 at First Baptist Church.  Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery.  Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.

Odell STREET, 91, of Portland died on Sunday, December 25, 2005.  A Sumner County native, he was born on August 15, 1914 to the late Maude and Fisher Street.  He was retired from General Motors.  He was preceded in death by both parents, two daughters, Juanita Smith and Carmelita Adcock, and a son, Lee Street. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, December 28, 2005 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.  Interment was at Old Brush Cemetery.

Larry D. TUCK, 57, of Franklin, Ky. died on Sunday, December 25, 2005 at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville.  A native of Simpson Co., Ky, he was the son of the late Nefty Tuck and Idelle (Gregory) Tuck.  He was retired from Seimans, Inc. and Tyco, Inc.  He was a Mason.  Funeral services were held on Wednesday, December 28, 2005 at Booker-Gilbert Funeral Home.  Burial was at Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin, Ky.

Donald Alan TRIVETT, 59, of Goodlettsville died on Sunday, December 25, 2005.  He was the owner/operator of Volunteer State Chevy Parts in Greenbrier.  He was a veteran of the United States Army.  A memorial service was held on Thursday, December 29, 2005 at Highland Seventh-day Adventist Church.  Cole & Garrett Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.

Dylan Kent VIATOR, 21, of Portland died on Sunday, January 8, 2006.  Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Wednesday, January 11, 2006 at Halltown General Baptist Church.  Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.

Evelyn Imojean BEST, 72, of Portland died on Saturday, December 31, 2005 at Skyline Medical Center.  She was born in Westmoreland on June 11, 1933 to the late John and Bessie Appleby.  Funeral services were held on Tuesday, January 3, 2006 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.  Interment was at Old Brush Cemetery.

Phillip EAST, 60, of Franklin, Ky, died on Thursday, January 5, 2006 at his residence.  A native of Poteet, Texas, he was born on June 2, 1945 to the late Ruth and Jasper East.  He graduated from the University of Texas with a Bachelor of Science in Speech degree on August 20, 1979, which complemented his already firm grasp of the English language.  This was demonstrated in his writings, which included over 600 songs and a novel, "The Circuit Writer of Lytton Springs".  He was employed by Kentucky Rural Water Association as the Director of Education Service whereupon he helped create the Utility Management Institute.  He was a member of the Portland Road Church of Christ in White House and a founding member of the Circuit Writer Church of Christ.  He was preceded in death by both parents and his brother, Albert "Son" East of Chilton, Texas.  Funeral services were held on Monday, January 9, 2006 at Booker-Gilbert Funeral Home in Franklin, Ky.  Burial was at Stony Point Cemetery in Allen County, Ky.

Leonard PORTER, 61, of Bethpage died on Thursday, January 5, 2006 at Hendersonville Hospital.  a native of Jefferson Co., Ky., he was the son of the late Lewis Porter and Lela Haley Porter.  He was a retired electrician and plumber.  He was preceded in death by both parents and three sons, Donald Huff, Leonard Douglas Porter, Jr. and Victor Porter.  Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 7, 2006 at Booker-Gilbert Funeral Home.  Burial was in Felts Cemetery in Logan Co., Ky.

Billy Gordon REID, 65, of Franklin, Ky. died on Monday, January 2, 2006 at his residence.  A native of Simpson Co., Ky., he was the son of the late Gordon Reid and Elmerine McCombs Reid.  He was retired from Potter & Brumfield & Siemens Tyco.  He was a member of Simpson Benevolent Lodge #177 and attended Blackjack Baptist Church.  He was preceded in death by his former wife, Bonita Reid.  Funeral services were held on Thursday, January 5, 2006 at Booker-Gilbert Funeral Home in Franklin, Ky.  Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin, Ky.

James Brach JACKSON, Jr., 63, of Portland died on Sunday, January 8, 2006. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.

Billy Gene RIGGSBEE, 74, of Cottontown died on Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at Skyline Medical Center.  A native of Sumner County, he was born February 21, 1931 to the late Lillian (Fuqua) and Dalton Riggsbee.  He was a farmer.  Funeral services were held on Thursday, January 12, 2006 at Portland Funeral Chapel.  Bro. Tony Brown officiated the service.  Burial was at Maple Hill Cemetery.

Thomas Jefferson GROVES, SR., 89, of Cottontown died on Thursday, January 12, 2006.  Born on February 12, 1916, the Robertson County native was the son of the late Osie and Isaac Groves.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Barbara Eloise Groves; a son, Carl Groves; a sister, Rebecca Clark; and three brothers, Oscar Groves, James Groves, and J. C. Groves.  Funeral services were held on Sunday, January 15, 2006 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.  Jim Hightower officiated the service.  Internment was at Groves Cemetery.

Ira W. JACKSON, JR., 72, of Portland died on Friday, January 6, 2006 at Tennessee Christian Medical Center in Portland. Born on July 7, 1933, the West Virginia native was the son of the late Mary A. (Butler) and Ira W. Jackson, Sr.  He was the owner of Kaoti Tractor.  He was a member of the Portland First Baptist Church.  He was preceded in death by both parents and a son, Mike Jackson.  A memorial service was held at 2 pm on Sunday, January 22, 2006 at Portland First Baptist Church.  Bro. Greg McCoy and Dr. Carl Martin will officiate the service.  Portland Funeral Chapel is in charge of all arrangements.

Kim Renea BARBER, 38, of Portland died on Sunday, January 8, 2006.  Born on August 29, 1967 in Simpson County, Ky.  Funeral services were held on Friday, January 13, 2006 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.  Bro. Tony Brown officiate the service.  Interment was at Restlawn.

Ivory C. STEVENS, 87, of Castalian Springs died on Wednesday, January 11, 2006.  Born on January 27, 1918, the Sumner County native was the daughter of the late Vernie and Thurman Stephens. She was retired from Sun Trust.  Funeral services were held on Friday, January 13, 2006 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.  Interment was at Mitchellville General Baptist Church Cemetery.

Catherine L. BOWERS, 88, of Covington, Ga., formerly of Portland, died on Tuesday, January 10, 2006.  Born on April 18, 1917, the Portland native was the daughter of Katie Mai (Deasy) and John Albert Mathias.  She was a housewife.  She was preceded in death by:  her husband, Melvin Bowers, a daughter, Louise Zuchike; and a son, Arnold Bowers.  Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 14, 2006 at Portland Funeral Chapel.  Bro. Richard Patton and Bro. Greg McCoy officiated the service.  Burial was at Maple Hill Cemetery.

Fred Bailey FISHBURN, 65, of Cornersville died on Wednesday, January 11, 2006 at NHC of Lewisburg.  The Marshall County native was the son of the late Viola Lelon (Marshall) and John William Fishburn, Sr.  He was a retired employee of Heil Quaker/International Comfort Products.  He was a member of the Baptist Church.  He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Juanita Price, Irene Janke and Gaye Cleveland.  Funeral services were held on Friday, January 13, 2006 at Cornersville Funeral Home.  Rev. Winson Wagner and Rev. Barry Fralix officiated the service.  A graveside service was held on Saturday, January 14, 2006 at Old Brush Cemetery.

Mary Elizabeth BRIZENDINE, 102, of Portland died Wednesday, January 18, 2006 at Tennessee Medical Center in Portland. Born on May 28, 1903, the Simpson County, Ky. native was the daughter of the late Jennie and Edgar McNeil.  She was retired from the grocery business.  Funeral services were held on Sunday, January 22, 2006 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.  Bro. Rusty Hills, Bro. James Harris, and Bro. Don Readhimer officiated the service.  Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery.

William T. RICHARDSON, 86, of Clarksville, died on Wednesday, January 18, 2006 at his residence.  Born on December 25, 1919, the Portland native was the son of Clara and Berry Richardson.  He was retired from Marathon Oil co. in Michigan. He served his country in the United States Navy.  He was a lifetime Mason.  A graveside service was held on Saturday, January 21, 2006 at Maple Hill Cemetery.  Pastor Rusty Hills officiated the service.

Joseph Carlie WILSON, 57, of Portland died on Monday, January 16, 2006 at his residence.  Born on October 14, 1948, the Robertson County native was the son of Aldean and Elisher Wilson.  Funeral services were held on Thursday, January 19, 2006 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.  Bro. Clayton Hall officiated the service. Interment was at Restlawn.

Matthew Alan McFADDEN, 17, of Portland died on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006 at Vanderbilt Medical Center.  He was born on Feb. 20, 1988.  He was a student at Portland High School and a member of the Portland First Baptist Church.  Funeral services were Tuesday, January 31, 2006 at Portland First Baptist Church.  Burial was at Maple Hill Cemetery.

Clayton Wayne GLOVER, 71, of Portland died on Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006 at Greenview Regional Hospital in Bowling Green, Ky.  The Tennessee native was born on Aug. 7, 1934 to the late Carrie and Joe Glover.  Graveside services were Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006 at Old Brush Cemetery.  Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.

Lester Eugene "Sam" CHILDERS, 75, of Portland died on Monday, Jan. 23, 2006 at Skyline Medical Center.  Born on Oct. 21, 1930, the Barboursville, W. Va. native was the son of the late Stella and Oscar Childers.  He was retired from Houdaille Industries in Huntington, W. Va. and Fleet Design in Portland.  He was a 30-year Mason.  Funeral services were Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006 at Henson Mortuary in Huntington, W. Va.  Interment was at White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Huntington.Wilkinson and Wiseman Funeral Home was in charge of all local arrangments.

Alene Ruth APPLEBY, 83, of Portland died on Wednesday, February 8, 2006 at Highland Manor.  She was born to the late Bessie and John Appleby on January 9, 1923.  She was preceded in death by three sisters, Imajean Best, Rachael Chaffin, and Alvateen Bracken, and five brothers, Thurman Appleby, Kenneth Appleby, Billy Ray Appleby, Clois Appleby and John Appleby, Jr.  Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 11, 2006 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.  Interment was at Old Brush Cemetery.

Annie JOHNSON, 93, of Portland died on Friday, February 10, 2006.  The Robertson County native was born on January 9, 1913 to the late Julia (Bowling) and Frank Reavis.  She was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church for many years, was a homemaker and a lifelong resident of Robertson County.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Johnson, sisters, Virginia Toney and Louise Hart and brothers Douglas Reavis and Duane Reavis.  Funeral services were held on Monday, February 14, 2006 at Milldale Chapel.  Rev. Blayne Hall officiated the service.  Interment was at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Milldale Chapel was in charge of all arrangements.

Sherry Lee SMITH, 45, of Portland, died Monday, Feb. 13, 2006 at Tennessee Christian Medical Center.  The Davidson County native was born on June 9, 1960.  She was a member of Mt. Mirah Baptist Church.  She was preceded in death by her mother, Agnes Anglin, and her step-father, Wilbur Anglin.  Funeral services were conducted Friday, February 17 at 1 pm at the Milldale Chapel.  Interment followed in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

David Arthur HAMPTON, 50, of Nashville died on Thursday, February 9, 2006.  Funeral services were held on Sunday, February 12, 2006 at the Salvation Army Chapel in Nashville.  Interment was in Portland Memorial Gardens.

Lenner Ovay Tippit BUSH, 75, of Gallatin died Tuesday, February 21, 2006.  Funeral services were at 10 am Thursday, February 23 from the chapel of Anderson and Anderson Funeral Home with Elder Jackie Stagner officiating.  Burial followed in Poplar Hill Cemetery, Lebanon.

John Hardy DRAPER, 67, of Portland died Wednesday, February 22, 2006 at Baptist Hospital, Nashville.  He was born September 13, 1938 to the late Vernon and Hazel Draper.  Funeral services were held at 1:30 pm Saturday, February 25 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.  Interment was at Old Brush Cemetery.

James Garnet MUNDAY, 60, of Lafayette, Indiana died Monday, February 20, 2006.  The Portland native was born June 1, 1945 to the late Vera Mae (Brown) and Cecil Munday.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret LaNette.  Funeral services were held Monday, February 27 at Hippensteel Funeral Home.  Burial was at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.

Dorothy May CHATMAN, 65, of Hartsville, formerly of Portland, died on Friday, March 3, 2006 at her residence.  The Springfield native was born on May 16, 1940 to the late Josephine (Goins) and Edgar Turner.  She was a housewife and a member of the New Hope Baptist Church. Funeral services were held on Monday, March 6, 2006 at New Hope Baptist Church. Burial was in New Hope Cemetery.  Portland Funeral Chapel was in charge of all arrangments.

Harold Douglas HUNTER, 67, of Portland died on Friday, March 3, 2006 at Highland Manor Nursing Home.  The Franklin, Ky. native was born on March 31, 1938 to the late Gracie (Whitson) and Walter Ray Hunter.  Funeral services were held on Sunday, March 5, 2006 at Portland Funeral Chapel.  Burial was at New Hope Cemetery.

Joyce Dale DEWEESE, 56, of Franklin, Ky. died on Saturday, March 4, 2006 at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville.  A Franklin, Ky. native, she was the daughter of the late Eunice Bell Woods Taylor and Raymond Earl Taylor.  She was a homemaker and a member of the Calvary Baptist Church.  Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 7, 2006 at Booker-Gilbert Funeral Home in Franklin, Ky.  Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery.

B. Key, and daughter, Hilda Key Hester.  Funeral services were held on Sunday, March 12, 2006 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funera Home. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery.

Ethel H. MONTCRIEF, 83, of Gallatin died on Sunday, March 12, 2006 at her residence.  The Sumner County native was born on October 10, 1922 to the late Mamie and Jess Hill.  She was retired from Genesco.  She was preceded in death by sisters Jessie Mae Perry and Ruby Baskerville.  Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 14, 2006 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.  Interment was at Rockbridge Cemetery.

Billy Ray ENGLAND, 62, of Portland, died on Thursday, March 23, 2006 at his residence.  The Portland native was born on October 25, 1943 to Pauline (Hobdy) and the late Earl Odell England.  He was a farmer. Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 25, 2006 at Portland Funeral Chapel.  Burial was at Restlawn Memory Gardens.

Dana Beth DOYLE, 41, of Gallatin, passed away Saturday, April 1, 2006 at Sumner Regional Medical Center.  A Memorial Service will be held at 6 pm, Thursday, April 6, 2006 from the First Baptist Church in Gallatin.  Family Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mai Dell BULLARD, 82, of Clarksville died on Thursday, March 30, 2006 at her residence.  The Sumner County native was born on June 2, 1923 to the late Emily Coker Perdue and Isaiah Alvin Perdue.  She was a retired cafeteria manager with the Portland School System.  She was a member of Excell Baptist Church.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Julius Bullard, a sister, Evelyn Earps, a brother, Arvin Perdue, and an infant brother, James Mitchell.  Funeral services were held on Monday, April 3, 2006 at Excell Baptist Church.  Burial was in Portland Memorial Gardens.  Neal-Tarpley Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.

Josh Lee HALL, 29 of Cottontown passed away Friday, April 7, 2006.  He was born in Davidson County on June 3, 1976. He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Claude and Bess Hall.  Funeral services were held on Sunday, April 9, 2006 at Church of First Born in White House.  Interment was at White House Memorial Gardens.

Pauline SIMPSON, 61, of Portland passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2006 at her residence.  She was born in Davidson County on June 22, 1944 to the late Jewel and Addie Mae Jacobs.  She had been a member of First Freewill Baptist Church for more than 30 years.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Paul, James, and Ray Jacobs; three sisters, Gladys Rowland, Betty Basham, and Mary Cole. Funeral services were held on Friday, April 7, 2006 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.

Evelyn Mac HOWARD, 57, of Westmoreland passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2006 at Portland Medical Center. She was born in Sumner County on June 11, 1948 to the late Alvin and Helen McGuire.  Funeral services were held on Friday, April 7, 2006 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.

Eddie Gale McCLOUD, 56, of Nashville passed away on Sunday, April 9, 2006.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Looman Gale and Winnie Lou McCloud, and sister, Jackie Whikhead.  Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 7, 2006 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.

Anna Jo LIGHT, 63, of Portland died Wednesday, April 12, 2006 at her residence.  A native of Macon County, she was born on January 24, 1943 to the late Charlie and Margaret (Selma) Shrum.  Funeral services were held Saturday, April 15, 2006 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.  Interment was at Old Brush.

Evelyn Christine TAYLOR, 74, of Madison died Wednesday, April 12, 2006 at Skyline Medical Center.  A native of Sumner County, she was born on August 10, 1931 to the late Ethel and Frank Douglas.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Taylor and sister, Mildred Taylor.  Funeral services were held Monday, April 17, 2006 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.  Interment was at Fairfield Cemetery.

Bryan "Slick" CARTER, Jr., 81, of Portland died Saturday, April 15, 2006 at Highland Manor Nursing Home.  A Robertson County native, he was born on June 27, 1924 to the late William Bryan Carter, Sr. and Willie Mae (Akins) Carter.  He was a retired florist, mold maker, ornamental statuary maker and carnival owner/operator.  He was one of the oldest operating businesses in Portland for over 60 years.  He was a member of the Portland General Baptist Church.  A religious service was held on Tuesday, April 18, 2006 at Portland General Baptist Church. Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery.  Portland Funeral Chapel was in charge of all arrangements.

Tildie Rebecca AUSBROOKS, 79, of Franklin, Ky. passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2006 at the Medical Center in Franklin, Ky.  A Macon County native, she was the daughter of the late Birdie Bell Mitchell Gann and Prentice Henry Gann.  She was a homemaker and a member of the Tyree Chapel Church of Christ.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil Clifton Ausbrooks; two sons, Jimmy Clifton and Roger William Ausbrooks; sister Cathleen Gomer; and brother, H. B. Gann.  Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 9, 2006 at Booker-Gilbert Funeral Home in Franklin, Ky. Burial was at Restlawn Memory Gardens.

Joe S. BUTT, 86 of Madison passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2006 at Alive Hospice.  A Sumner County native, he was born on June 16, 1919 to the late Ruby (Goostree) and Arthur B. Butt, Sr.  He was a former health inspector and had served his country in the United States Army.  Graveside services were held at Restlawn Memory Gardens on Monday, May 8, 2006.

Patricia Ann FREEMAN, 57, of Portland passed away on Wednesday, May 3, 2006 at Sumner Regional Medical Center. Born in Davidson County on February 24, 1949, she was the daughter of the late Robert Freeman.  Funeral services were held on Sunday, May 7, 2006 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.  Entombment was at Crestview Mausoleum.

Charles D. PADGETT, age 49, passed away Sunday, April 30 in Portland.  Mr. Padgett was born October 29, 1957.  Funeral services were held Saturday, May 5 at Parker's Chapel Baptist Church with interment at Parker's Chapel Cemetery.

Patricia Spille-SCHMITZ, 63, of Scottsdale, Ariz. passed away on Thursday, May 4, 2006.  She was born in Nashville on October 15, 1942.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Schmitz; son Karl David Krentler; and father, Marcus B. Perdue.  She lived most of her adult life in Indiana until 1981, when she moved to Arizona where she has lived for the past 25 years.  She made her career in the automotive industry beginning in the finance department and then working with her beloved husband, Joseph, at Schmitz and Associates where she served as Vice President and CEO.  Her aunt resides in Portland. Funeral services were held on Monday, May 8, 2006 at Scottsdale Bible Church Chapel in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Lorelle Eunice COLLINS, 93, of Portland passed away on Friday, May 19, 2006.  A Sumner County native, she was born on June 11, 1912 to the late Eva and Levert Vanatta.  She was the retired owner and operator of The Fabric Shop.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice Collins, son Gary "Buster" Collins; and granddaughter Kim Collins.  Funeral services were held on Sunday, May 21, 2006 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.  Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery.

Robert L. DRAKE, 82, of Franklin, Ky., died on Monday, May 16, 2006 at his residence.  He was the son of the late Mattie Munday Drake and Harold Reed Drake.  He was the owner and operator of Drake and Son Plumbing, a member of the Franklin First Baptist Church, American Legion Post #62, and VFW Post 5706.  He also served his country in the United States Army and was a World War II veteran.  Funeral services were conducted on Wednesday, May 17, 2006 at Booker-Gilbert Funeral Home in Franklin, Ky.  Burial was at Greenlawn Cemetery with military honors provided by the Simpson County Honor Guard.

Gary Don MUNDAY, 55, of Portland passed away on Wednesday, May 10, 2006 at Sumner Regional Medical Center.  A Sumner County native, he was born on December 16, 1950 to the late Joe Munday, Jr.  He was preceded in death by his father and a sister, Linda Morgan.  Memorial services were held on Friday, May 12, 2006 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.

Annie Ruth MOORE, 101, of Portland passed away on Monday, May 22, 2006 at Highland Manor Nursing Home. The Portland native was born on November 15, 1904 to the late Luther Presley and Addie Estelle Swan Lanier and lived in the Portland community most of her life.  "Miss Annie Ruth" was a school teacher, homemaker, an active member of the Eastern Star for a number of years, and a long time member of the Dogwood Hills Garden Club.  She was a faithful and committed teacher in the Primary department of the First Baptist Church of Portland.  She was preceded in death by both parents; two husbands, O. O. Massey and George Reid Moore; two sisters, Mary Ellen Shannon and Clara Thomas Oakley; and one brother, Presley Swan Lanier.  Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.  Interment will be at Maple Hill Cemetery.

Roy Allen CALLIS, 73, of Portland passed away on Wednesday, May 24, 2006 at St. Thomas Hospital.  The Sumner County native was born on June 19, 1932 to the late Evelyn and Clarence Callis.  He was a retired carpenter, truck driver and farmer.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Callis; sister, Myrtle Martin, and brothers, Lewis Callis and Edward Callis.  Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 27, 2006 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.  Mark Hearn officiated the service.  Interment was at Old Brush Cemetery.

Mrs. Mary Louise GRAEF, 81, Portland, died Saturday, June 3, 2006 at the Portland Medical Center in Portland. She was a homemaker and a member of the Zion Lutheran Church.  A native of Sumner County, she was the daughter of the late Harry Whitney Moncrief and the late Mary Anne Carr Moncrief.  Funeral services were held Monday, June 5 at Booker-Gilbert Funeral Home in Franklin, Ky.

Leon C. HODGES, 63, of Georgia and formerly of Portland, passed away on Wednesday, May 31, 2006 at his residence.  The Portland native was born on June 28, 1942 to the late Marguerite and Raymond Hodges.  He was retired from the United States Navy where he held the rank of Senior Chief.  He was also retired from U. S. Airways.  He worked with Eastern Airlines for 21 years in avionics and a mechanic.  He was a member of Victory Baptist Church in Fort Valley, Ga.  He was preceded in death by both parents and a sister, Betty J. Hodges.  Funeral services were held on Monday, June 5, 2006 in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home in Warner Robins, Ga.  Interment was in Andersonville National Cemetery.  McCullough Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.

Lee and Dorothy Mae Miller Jennett.  He was employed by United Structures of America and was the former pastor of Fountain Head Baptist Church.  He was preceded in death by both parents and a grandson, Daniel Sheppard.  Visitation will be held on Wednesday morning after 6 a.m. at Crafton Funeral Home in Franklin, Ky. with funeral services held at 2 p.m..  Burial will follow at Blackjack Cemetery.

J. Douglas LINK, age 82 of Cottontown, expired Friday evening September 1, 2006 in Gallatin Rehabilitation and Nursing after a formidable struggle with Alzheimer's disease.  Douglas was preceded in death by parents Brooks and Nell Link, sister Alene Ubbinga, and son Duane.  The Sumner County native bravely served his country with honor and pride with the US Navy during World War II in the Pacific aboard the USS Paul Hamilton.  Mr. Link worked for General Motors 32 years in Columbus, Ohio.  He returned to his home farm in the Cottontown area following his retirement in 1984.  Doug was a founding member of VFW Post #8198 in Grove City, Ohio as well as a charter member of American Legion Post #0075.  Douglas was a faithful member of the New Deal Church of Christ.  Funeral services were held on Tuesday, September 5 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.  Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery.

CIVILS, age 60, of Portland died Friday, October 20, 2006.  A Sumner County native, he was the son of the late Harry C. and Rebecca (Webb) Civils.  Mr. Civils was a member of Hollis Chapel General Baptist Church and worked as an auctioneer prior to his death.  Services were held Sunday, October 22, 2006 at Portland Funeral Chapel.  Interment followed at Old Brush Cemetery, Portland.

A former Franklin resident, Mr. Billy Wilson CARR age 61 of Bowling Green, died Saturday, October 2, 2006 at St. Thomas Hospital.  A native of Lafayette, he was the son of the late James and Bonnie Carr.  He was the Benefits Coordinator for PIC Company, a member of Drakes Creek Missionary Baptist Church, and a football official for the KHSAA for 42 years.  Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 24, 2006 at Crafton Funeral Home.  Burial followed in the Drakes Creek Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.

William Calbert PORTER, age 83, of Hendersonville passed away Friday, October 20, 2006.  He was born August 6, 1923 to the late Fletcher and Georgia Porter.  He was retired from the US Air Force.  He was preceded in death by two sons, William A. and Barry L. Porter.  Funeral services were Monday, October 23, 2006 at Wilkinson and Wiseman Funeral Home.  Interment followed at Old Brush Cemetery.

Richard E. BOLTON, 66, of Portland died Thursday, October 19, 2006 at The Residence at Alive Hospice in Nashville.  The Robertson County native was born October 31, 1939 to the late Jake and Grace Blackwell Bolton.  He was retired from the maintenance department of the State of Indiana.  He was a Baptist.  Services were held Saturday, October 21, 2006 in the Oakhurst Chapel of Robertson County Funeral Home.  Interment followed in Robertson County Memorial Gardens.

Carrie Rena SMITH, 91, of Portland passed away Saturday, October 14, 2006 at Sumner Regional Medical Center.  The Columbia, S.C. native was born on September 15, 1915 to the late James and Mary Craft.  She was retired from nursing.  She was preceded in death by her son, Alton Hutson.  Funeral services were held Saturday, October 28, 2006 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.  Interment followed at Portland Memorial Gardens.

Billy C. DORRIS, 75, of Portland died on Friday, October 27, 2006 at his residence.  The Portland native was born on December 2, 1930 to the late Wavie (Gregory) and Ollie Lee Dorris.  He was a retired laborer with Eaton Corp.  He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sue Dorris.  Funeral services were held on Monday, October 30, 2006 at Portland Funeral Chapel.  Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery.

James Claude SUMMERS, Jr., age 75, of Portland passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2006 at his residence. He was born October 11, 1931 to the late James and Lena Summers.  Funeral mass was held Saturday, October 21, 2006 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church.  Entombment was at Springhill Mausoleum.

Cheryl J. DICKINSON, age 68, of Westmoreland died Monday, October 30, 2006 at Skyline Medical Center. Ms. Dickinson, a widow, was born in Guthrie, Iowa to the late Carroll Culver and Lois (Rutherford) Culver of Seattle, Washington.  Religious services were held at Portland Funeral Chapel on Thursday, November 2, 2006. Interment followed at Old Brush Cemetery.

David George WHITSON, age 34, of Bowling Green, Ky. died Tuesday, October 31, 2006.  He was a police officer for the City of Bowling Green for the past eight years, a member of Lehman Avenue Church of Christ and a graduate of Portland High, Western Kentucky University, and of the Department of Criminal Justice Training Cemeter at Eastern Kentucky University.  He was preceded in death by his father, George Hayden Whitson. Funeral services were held Saturday, November 4, 2006 at Hillvue Heights Church with interment following at Crestview Cemetery, Gallatin.

Logan Alexander LANGLEY, born and gone to heaven November 2, 2006 at North Crest Medical Center in Springfield.  A graveside service was held on Saturday, November 4, 2006 at Groves Family Cemetery in Portland.

James Harold HAYNES, age 86, of Edgewater, FL passed away on Friday, November 3, 2006.  He was born in Sumner County on March 7, 1920 to the late Charlie and Sallie Belle Haynes.  He was a WWII Army veteran, seeing action in Guam, and Saipan before being wounded in Okinawa.  Mr. Haynes retired after 38 years with NASA as a quality control specialists, where he had worked on the Lunar Rover.  He was an active member of the Portland Church of Christ, was a private pilot, played several musical instruments, including bass fiddle, mandolin, and steel guitar.  He was preceded in death by his son, Joy Haynes.  Funeral services were held Thursday, November 9, 2006 at Wilkinson & Wiseman Funeral Home with interment at Maple Hill Cemetery.

Velma P. BRIGGS, age 92, of Portland passed away November 8, 2006.  Mrs. Briggs was retired from The Sumner County School System and was a homemaker.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Portland. Funeral services were held at Wilkinson & Wiseman on Sunday November 12, 2006.  Interment followed at Maple Hill Cemetery.  Preceded in death by husband, Ollie Briggs; son Thomas Briggs, of Indianapolis, In.; daughter Daisy Goforth of Ooltewah, Tn; grandsons, Gene Goforth of Ooltewah, Tn., Jimmy Perdue of Portland.

Gertrude Sue Katherine JONES, age 57, of Bowling Green, Ky. died Sunday, November 19, 2006.  A Portland native, she was born to Benton and Annie Williams Jones, both deceased.  (Funeral services were incomplete at the time of the obit publication.)

Ramond "Red" SCRUGGS, age 60, of Portland, died Sunday, November 19, 2006 at Sumner Regional Medical Center.  Born in Logan County, Ky. to the late Jim Thurman Scruggs and Mari Magdeline Adams Scruggs, he had been an employee of Imperial Fabricating and a lifetime farmer.  He attended Bucklodge Baptist Church.
Mr. Scruggs was preceded in death by a brother, David Scruggs.

Bob R. CULBREATH, age 77, of Cottontown died Saturday, November 25, 2006.  A man of honor who loved his family and his fellowman.  Who trusted God to lead him.  He was respected by many and loved by more. Mr. Culbreath was born November 29, 1928 to Raymond Searcy and Lela Mae Martin Culbreath.  He was preceded in death by one brother Joe David Culbreath.  Funeral serices were held Tuesday, November 28, 2006 at Halltown General Baptist Church with interment in Halltown Cemetery.

Aileen Eller DUFFER, age 70, of Portland died Monday, November 27, 2006 at the Medeo center in Franklin, Ky.  A native of Sumner County, she was the daughter of the late Andrew Jackson Eller and Eva Mae Eller.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Duffer and a daughter, Janie Marie Butler.  Graveside services were Thursday, November 30, 2006 at the Crestview Memorial Gardens in Gallatin.

Charles David LEE, 65, of Portland passed away on Sunday, December 3, 2006 at his residence.  The Sumner County native was born on January 31, 1941 to the late Brady and Thelma Lee.  Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday december 6, 2006 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.  Interment will be at Old Brush Cemetery.

Robert W. GOOSTREE, age 80, of Portland passed away Sunday, December 10, 2006 at Sumner Regional Medical Center.  A native of Sumner County, he was born February 28, 1926 to the late Rubin and Myrtle Goostree.  He was retired from Mid Western Gas and Transmission.  Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 13, 2006 at Wilkinson Wiseman Funeral Home.  Interment followed at Maple Hill Cemetery.

Charles Thomas LEGGETT, age 67, of Portland passed away Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.  A Sumner County native, he was born November 6, 1939 to the late Ephrin and Alvis Juanita Leggett.  He was a dispatcher for the Portland Police Department.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an aunt, Joan Turner.  Funeral services were held Saturday, December 16 at Wilkinson & Wiseman Funeral Home.  Interment was at Old Brush.

James "Jimmy" Blaine DONOHO Jr., age 81, of Portland passed away December 16, 2006 at his residence.  He was born in Sumner County on February 11, 1925 to the late James Blaine and Lois Austin Donoho.  He was a lifetime nursery man, with J. B. Donoho and Sons Nursery.  He was a member of Portland Church of Christ and served as their treasurer for 33 years, former director of Sumner County Farm Bureau, former manager of Portland Strawberry Association, UT graduate and fan.  Funeral services were held Monday, December 18, 2006 at Wilkinson & Wiseman Funeral Home.  Interment followed at Maple Hill Cemetery.

Don Thomas PENDLETON, age 58, of Portland passed away December 15, 2006 at Portland Medical Center.
He was born September 18, 1948 to William and Laura Pendleton.  Graveside service was conducted Sunday, December 17, 2006 at Sulphur Springs Cemetery in Franklin, Ky.

William E. "Billy" HAWKINS, Jr. of 829 E. Cedar Street, Franklin, Ky. and formerly of Scottsville, died at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville.  The Indianapolis native was an employee of Imperial Group, Inc.  He was a son of the late William Eugene Hawkins, Sr. and Dorothy Mae Robinson Hawkins.  He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Billy Hawkins, two uncles, Tony Hawkins and J. D. Hawkins. Funeral Services were held Friday, December 22, 2006 at Goad Funeral Home.  Burial in Crescent Hill Cemetery.

Earnest Orten VENTRESS, age 71, of Portland passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2006 at Hendersonville Medical Center.  He was born in Sumner County on September 13, 1935 to the late Ned and Gladys Ventress. Funeral services were Saturday, December 23, 2006 at Wilkinson & Wiseman Funeral Home.  Interment at Old Brush Cemetery.

Mrs. Ellie Wessinger CARTER, age 87, of Portland died Friday, December 22, 2006 at the Portland Medical Center.  A native of Simpson County, Ky., she was the daughter of the late George William Wessinger and the late Bertha Viola Groves Wessinger.  She was the wife of the late Hubert Russell Carter.  She was a homemaker and a Baptist.  Funeral services were Wednesday, December 27, 2006 at Booker-Gilbert Funeral Home with burial following in Restlawn Memory Gardens.
