Anne SHERRON, 76, of the Rock Bridge Community, died on Thurs., Dec. 30, 2004.  She was a member of the Temple Missionary Baptist Church in Portland.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Virgie Lee (Chambers) and Thomas Bryant Taylor; infant daughter, Linda Kay Sherron, son, Terry Lee Sherron, and son-in-law Nathan Craig Arnold.  Funeral services were held on Sat., Jan. 1, 2005 at Alexander Funeral Home.  Burial was at Rock Bridge Cemetery.

Arthur Wade SULLIVAN, 74, of Westmoreland died on Fri., Dec. 31, 2004 at Sumner Regional Medical center.  He was born in Macon County on Sept. 26, 1930 to the late Thomas Albert and Iva Walker Sullivan. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dora Sullivan.  Funeral services were held Mon., Jan. 3, 2005 at Wilkinson & Wiseman Funeral Home.  Interment will be at Portland Memorial Gardens.

Luna Hazel STONE, 87, of Portland died on Mon., Jan. 3, 2005 at Westmoreland Health Care.  She was born April 14, 1917 in Macon County to the late Arthur Harrison and Sarah Ann Story.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Stone, a sister, Clemmie Brandon, and a brother, Hayden Marshall.  Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM on Wed., Jan. 5, 2005 at Wilkinson & Wiseman Funeral Home.  Interment will be at Eulia Cemetery.

Mable Jane Kelly LAW, 87, of Cottontown died on Sat., Jan. 8, 2005.  A Cottontown native, she was born on Dec. 12, 1917 to the late Ida Mabel (Wright) and James Logan Kelly.  She was an alumnus of Tennessee College for Women in Murfreesboro and was an elementary school teacher in Sumner Co. for 30 years.  She was a charter member of Heritage FCE and served as an officer for many years.  She was a member of Birdwell's Chapel Church of Christ.  She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Paul A. Law. Funeral services were held on Tues., Jan. 11, 2005 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.  Burial was at Hillcrest Cemetery in White House.

Viola B. GROVES, 84, of Portland died on Wed., Jan. 5, 2005 at Highland Manor Nursing Home in Portland.  A native of Cross Plains, she was born on July 26, 1920 to the late Sara (Pond) and Jesse Monday.  She was a housewife.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall Groves.  Funeral services were held on Fri., Jan. 7, 2005 at Portland Funeral Chapel.  Burial was at Maple Hill Cemetery.

Mabel Katherine JONES, 89, of Portland died on Thurs., Jan. 13, 2005 at Highland Manor.  A native of Sumner Co., she was born on Aug. 13, 1915 to the late Etta Mae and Vernon Cook.  Funeral services were held on Sat., Jan. 15, 2005 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.  Burial was at Maple Hill Cemetery.

Vallie Earline CRON, 97, of Portland died on Mon., Jan. 10, 2005.  A Sumner Co. native, she was born on Feb. 1, 1907 to the late Maude (Bell) and Henry Kelley.  She had been a teacher in Sumner Co. since 1929 and had taught at Hollis Chapel, Buck Lodge, Fountain Head, Bush's Chapel and Oakmont.  She retired after 34 years of teaching.  She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ.  She was preceded in death by husband Fred Bly in 1937 and then her husband of 53 years, Perkins Cron, daughter Linda Elaine Cron, and sister Hazel Kelly. Funeral services were held on Wed., Jan. 12, 2005 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.  Burial was at Old Brush Cemetery.

Edith ATCHISON, 91, of Portland died on Tues., Jan. 11, 2005 at Highland Manor.  A native of Sumner Co., she was born on Sept. 2, 1913 to the late Neely Belle and Roy Faulin.  Funeral services were held on Fri., Jan. 14, 2005 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.  Burial was at Maple Hill Cemetery.

Mary Frances PRYOR, 84, of Springfield died on Fri., Jan 14, 2005 at her daughter's residence.  A Sumner County native, she was born on June 13, 1920 to the late Lizzie (Hodges) and Jesse R. Lane.  She was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill Lane and William Lane.  Funeral services were held on Mon., Jan. 17, 2005 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.  Burial was at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Eva Nell WILKINSON, 87, of Portland died on Sat., Jan. 22, 2005 at Tenn. Christian Portland.  A native of Robertson Co., she was born on Oct. 18, 1917 to the late Lillie and Virgil Groves.  She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Owen Wilkinson.  Funeral services were held on Mon., Jan. 24, 2005 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.  Burial was at Hillcrest Cemetery in White House.

Nadine CLINE, 75, of Donelson, formerly of Portland, died on Tues., Jan. 25, 2005.  A native of Sumner Co., she was the daughter of the late Pearl Mae and Minus Smith Perdue.  Funeral services were held on Fri., Jan. 28, 2005 at Hibbett & Hailey Funeral Home in Nashville.  Burial was at Hermitage Memorial Gardens.

Gladys Marie PERDUE, 89, of Portland died on Tues., Jan. 25, 2005 at Tennessee Christian Portland.  A native of Allen Co., Ky., she was born on Nov. 30, 1915 to the late Daisy (Dean) an Marion Jesse Meador.  She was retired from Sandy Shirt Factory.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilford Perdue, daughter, Donna Broderson, and brothers, Elbert Meador, L. V. Meador, and Ernest Keen. Funeral services were held on Thurs., Jan. 27, 2005 at Martins Chapel Baptist Church.  Burial was at Perdue Cemetery.  Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.

Frances M. WALKER, 78, of Portland died on Wed., Jan. 26, 2005 at her residence.  She was born in Coffee County on March 27, 1926.  Her husband, Wesley Walker, preceded her in death.

Donavan "Donnie" Ray BLACK, 53, of Portland died on Thurs., Feb. 3, 2005 at his residence.  A Portland native, he was born on May 26, 1951 to the late Minnie Bell Scott and Herschel Black.  He was a machinist at Caraustar Industries.  He was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Black and son in law, Troy King. Funeral services were held on Sat., Feb. 5, 2005 at Portland Funeral Chapel.  Burial was at Groves Family Cemetery in Robertson Co.

Alford Lee BROWN, 78, of Portland died on Wed., Feb. 2, 2005 at Tennessee Christian Portland.  A native of Simpson Co., Ky., he was born on June 9, 1926 to the late Dora and Brady Brown.  He retired from Meyers Truck Casters.  Funeral services were held on Fri., Feb. 4, 2005 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.  Burial was at Halltown Cemetery.

Jimmie Lloyd SPANN,59, of Cottontown died on Tues., Feb. 8, 2005 at his residence.  A Nashville native, he was born on Nov. 16, 1945 to the late Mary and William Spann.  He was a self-employed home repair construction worker.  A memorial service was held on Fri., Feb. 11, 2005 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.

Helen SHORT, 78, of Pleasant View died on Fri., Feb. 11, 2005 as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.  A native of Mt. Ida, Ark., she was born on May 7, 1926 to the late Emily Liverman and Grovie Oliver.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Almond A. Short, and seven brothers and sisters. Funeral services were held on Tues., Feb. 15, 2005 at Austin & Bell Funeral Home in Springfield.  Burial was at Old Brush Cemetery.

Katie Mai GEORGE, 86, of Portland died on Tues., Feb. 15, 2005 at Select Specialty Hospital in Nashville.  She was born on Sept. 12, 1918 to the late Nora Ann and John Henry Estes.  She was a longtime member of the Portland Church of the Nazarene.  Funeral services were held on Thurs., Feb. 17, 2005 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.  Burial was at Old Brush Cemetery.

Irene Burton WISEMAN, 87, of Brandenburg, Ky, died on Fri., Feb. 18, 2005.  A native of Jackson, she was the former Irene Maynard and a member of the Eastern Star Chapter #65 and Halltown General Baptist Church.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Burton and Owen Wiseman; two sons, Eddie Burton and Don Burton; and stepdaughter, Dorothy Gentry.  Funeral services were held on Mon., Feb. 21, 2005 at W. G. Hardy Valley Chapel in Louisville, Ky.  Burial was at the Bethany Cemetery in Valley Station, Ky.

Harold RAGAN, 71, of Lexington, Ky. died on Wed., Feb. 16, 2005 while in St. Petersburg, FL.  A native of Portland, he was born on Dec. 25, 1933 to the late Ethel and George Ragan.  He retired from the U. S. Army in 1973, having served with honors in Korea and Vietnam, earning a Bronze Star.  He worked at the Lexington Bluegrass Army Depot for 15 years.  He was preceded in death by a sister, Marjorie Noel.  Funeral services were held on Sun., Feb. 20, 2005 at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home in Lexington, Ky.  Burial was at Blue Grass Memorial Gardens, in Lexington, Ky.

Sarah Wade COX, 66, of Portland died on Fri., Feb. 18, 2005 at her residence.  Funeral services were held on Mon., Feb. 21, 2005 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.  Burial was at Crestview Memorial Park in Gallatin.

Ruby Zelma KEELING, 88, of Portland died on Tues., Feb. 22, 2005 at Alive Hospice in Nashville.  A Macon Co. native, she was born on Mar. 9, 1916 to the late Flora Ella (Miller) and Grover Cleveland.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Estill Keeling, a sister, Estelle Miller Key, and four brothers, Jennings Miller, Ralph (her twin) Miller, Doyle Miller and Truman Miller.  Funeral services were held on Fri., Feb. 25, 2005 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.  Burial was at Old Brush Cemetery.

James SULLIVAN, 53, of Portland died on Thurs., Feb. 24, 2005 at Tennessee Christian Portland.  A native of Allen Co., Ky., he was the son of the late Clifton Gardner Sullivan and Jewell Lee Carter Sullivan.  Funeral services were held on Mon., Feb. 28, 2005 at Goad Funeral Home.  Burial was at Macedonia Cemetery.

Cecele PITCHFORD, 89, of Portland died Feb. 26, 2005.  Born in Tompkinsville, Ky. on Aug. 26, 1915 to the late Fred and Bertice York, she was retired from Bentley's Five and Dime Store.  She was the oldest member of the First Baptist Church.  She was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Cory Gregory and Darin Gregory, and great grandson, Brandon Gregory.  Funeral services were held on Tues., March 1, 2005 at Wilkinson-Wiseman funeral Home.  Interment was at Restlawn Memory Gardens.

Lena Maybelle PERDUE, age 85, of Portland, died on Feb. 26, 2005 at Highland Manor.  Born Jan. 7, 1920 in Sumner County to the late Hobert and Beulah Denning, she was a 1938 graduate of Sumner Co. High School and long time member of United Pentecostal Church.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Willard Perdue.  Funeral services will be held at 11:30 AM on Wed., March 2, 2005 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.  Interment will be at Perdue Cemetery.

George Eugene Dorris, 88, of Portland died on Fri., Mar. 4, 2005 at Tennessee Christian Portland.  A native of Robertson Co., he was born on Dec. 10, 1916 to the late Jennie and Hurbert Dorris.  He was a retired farmer. He was preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth Eurdean Dorris.  Funeral services were held on Sun., Mar. 6, 2005 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.  Burial was at Old Fountain Head Cemetery.

Lela Belle WALTER, 93, of Portland died on Mon., Mar. 7, 2005 at Brassell Home Health Care.  A native of Sumner Co., she was born on Nov. 6, 1911 to the late Earl and John Parks.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel Walter.  Funeral services were held on Thurs., Mar. 10, 2005 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.  Interment was at Mitchellville Cemetery.

Paul Daniel LATIMER, 84, of Portland died on Thurs., Mar. 10, 2005 at Tennessee Christian Portland. Funeral services were held on Sun., Mar. 13, 2005 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.  Burial was at Portland Memorial Gardens.

Regenia TERRY, 65, of Gallatin died on Mon., Mar 14, 2005.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Euflower (Cauthran) and Johnny Garner Ball, and by a sister, Myrle Ball Parker.

Essie Marie BUNTIN, 88, of Cross Plains died on Sat., Mar. 12, 2005 at her residence.  A native of Sumner Co., she was born on Nov. 30, 1906 to the late Roxie Ann (Hunter) and Rubie Carlos Parker.  She was a homemaker.  She was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.  Funeral services were held on Tues., Mar. 15, 2005 at Robertson County Funeral Home.  Burial was at Cross Plains Cemetery.

Joe Norman GREER, 69, of Portland died on Thurs., Mar. 24, 2005.  A native of Sumner Co., he was born on Jan. 9, 1936 to the late Zelmar and William Greer, Jr.  He was preceded in death by his son, Larry D. Greer. Funeral services were held Sat., Mar. 26, 2005 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.  Burial was at Portland Memorial Gardens.

Darl Leroy POWELL, 69, of Portland died on Sun., Mar. 27, 2005 at Tennessee Christian Portland.  A native of Marion, Ind., he was born on Jan. 1, 1936 to the late Cledith (Carwood) and Glenn Todd Powell.  He was a retired truck driver.  He served his country in the U. S. Army and saw action during the Korean War.  He was preceded in death by four sons, Darl Leroy Powell, Jr., Donny Eugene Powell, Darl Powell, Jr. and Michael Douglas Powell; and two grandchildren, April Powell and Tanner Scott Powell.  Graveside services with full military honors are being held on Wed., Mar. 30, 2005 at 11:00 AM at the Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery in Nashville.  Alexander-Goade Funeral Home is in charge of all arrangements.

Vernon E. BRILEY, 89, of Cottontown died on Wed., Mar. 30, 2005 at his residence.  A native of Sumner Co., he was born on Jan. 15, 1916 to the late Elizabeth (Kirby) and Thomas Walter Briley.  He was the owner/operator of New Deal Tool and Die since 1953.  He was a member of Halltown General Baptist Church for over 50 years and served as a deacon since 1958 and was awarded Master Workman in the General Baptist Association.  He was a 32nd Degree Mason and had been a member of Cherry Mound Lodge for 64 years.  He was preceded in death by both parents and a sister, Estelle Broadrick.  He is survived by his wife of 64 years, two sons, five grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.  Funeral services were held on Sat., Apr. 2, 2005 at Halltown General Baptist Church.  Interment was at Halltown Cemetery.  Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.

Joyce Jean POOLE, 63, of Portland died on Mon., Mar. 28, 2005 at Tennessee Christian Portland.  A native of Greensboro, Ky., she was born on Mar. 12, 1942 to the late Delize and Elic Burris.  Funeral services were held on Wed., Mar. 30, 2005 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.  Interment was at Old Brush Cemetery.

Eva Nell THACKER, 78, of Hendersonville died on Tues., Mar. 29, 2005 at Mariner Health Care of Nashville. A Sumner Co. native, she was born on Sept. 15, 1926 to the late Lillie and Carl Mathias.  Funeral services were held on Fri., Apr. 1, 2005 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.  Interment was at Restlawn Memory Gardens.

Wilma Catherine CONWAY, 35, of Bon Aqua died on Sat., Mar. 26, 2005 at her residence.  A native of Los Angeles, Calif., she was born on June 16, 1969.  She was a homemaker.  Graveside services were held on Sat., Apr. 2, 2005 at the Memory Gardens Cemetery in Centerville.  McDonald Funeral Home of Centerville was in charge of all arrangements.

Gladys Louise FAIR, 80, of Portland died on Fri., Apr. 1, 2005 at Sumner Regional Medical Center in Gallatin. A Sumner Co. native, she was born on Sept. 13, 1924 to the late Carrie and Orl White.  She was a member of the Portland Church of the Nazarene.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Fair; sister, Barbara Ausbrooks; brother, Jake White, and grandson, Timothy Fair.  Funeral services were held on Sun., Apr. 3, 2005 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.  Burial was at Old Brush Cemetery.

Jerry Lee PEARSON, 64, of Orlinda died on Fri., Apr. 1, 2005 at Tennessee Christian Portland.  A Sumner Co. native, he was born on Nov. 29, 1940 to Evelyn Pearson and the late Paul A. Pearson.  He was a factory worker and a Baptist.  Funeral services were held on Mon., Apr. 4, 2005 at the Milldale Chapel in Springfield.  Burial was at Williams Chapel Cemetery.

Mary Louise COE, 80, of Portland died on Thurs. April 14, 2005 at Tennessee Christian Portland.  A native of Fayette, Ala., she was born on March 4, 1925 to the late Aquilla (Maddox) and David S. Lemons.  She was married in 1947 to Walter G. Coe, who preceded her in death in 1962.  Prior to her retirement, she was an apartment manager and volunteered at the Senior Citizens Center in Arkansas.  She enjoyed making jewelry and was Pentecostal in belief.  In addition to her parents, and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Donnie Coe, her sister, Martha Lemons, and an infant brother and another brother, David "Doc" Lemons. Funeral services were held on Sat., April 16, 2005 at Anderson & Anderson Funeral Home in Gallatin. Interment was at Gallatin City Cemetery.

Larry Wayne SLUCHER, 55, of Portland died on Thurs., Apr. 21, 2005 at his residence.  A native of Frankfort, Ky., he was born o Dec. 19, 1949 to the late Mary Frances Feather (Stone) and Jessie Tyann Slucher.  He was a truck driver for EPEC and served his country in the United States Marine Corps.  Funeral services were held on Sat., Apr. 23, 2005 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.  Interment was at Old Brush Cemetery.

Otho Wyndell BARRY, 87, of Portland died on Tues., Apr. 19, 2005.  A native of Robertson Co., he was born on Apr. 5, 1918 to the late Rhoda (Gautier) and James Lucky Barry.  He was a retired farmer and a devoted longtime member of Union Chapel General Baptist Church.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Lorene (Harper) Barry.  Funeral services were held on Thurs., Apr. 21, 2005 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.  Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery.

Paul E. WOLFE, 82, of Scottsville, Ky. died on Sun., Apr. 24, 2005 at the Medical Center at Bowling Green.  An Allen Co. native, he was born to the late Altha May and Garland Wolfe and was married to the late Lucille (Parrish) Wolfe.  He was retired from the Dixie Bridge Company and had previously served his country in the United States Army and was a veteran of World War II.  He was a member of Scottsville Baptist Church and was a charter member of Court House Sunday School Class and Graham Lodge #207 F & AM, where he was a member for 62 years and attended White Plains Baptist Church.  Funeral services were held on Tues., Apr. 26, 2005 at Goad Funeral Home in Scottsville, Ky.  Burial was at Crescent Hill Cemetery.

Toy Cook SLOAN, 93, of Gallatin died on Sat., Apr. 23, 2005 at Sumner Regional Medical Center.  A Sumner Co. native, she was born on Aug. 21, 1911 to the late Maggie (Prock) and George Cook.  She was a homemaker and the oldest member of Rock Bridge Missionary Baptist Church.  She loved to make quilts and loved to cook for her family and friends.  She was preceded in death by both parents, her husband of 67 years, Isaac Harrison Sloan and three sisters and eight brothers.  Funeral services were held on Tues., Apr. 26, 2005 at Rock Bridge Missionary Baptist Church.  Interment was at Rock Bridge Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.

Josephine Irvine EDWARDS, 88, of Statesboro, Ga. died on Fri., Apr. 29, 2005 at Statesboro Nursing Home. The Cohasset, Mass. native graduated magna cum laude from what was Armstrong State College (now Armstrong Atlantic State University) and Vanderbilt University with a degree in Library Science and served as librarian at both Brewton Parker College and Armstrong State College.  Mrs. Edwards attended First Baptist Church where she was a member of the Sarah Miller Circle and was involved in the arts guild locally.  Funeral services were held on Sun., May 1, 2005 in the Chapel of Hodges-Moore Funeral Home in Statesboro.  Burial was at Black Creek Church Cemetery.

Essie Louise NUCKOLS, 85, of Portland died on Sat., Apr. 30, 2005 at Highland Manor.  She was preceded in death by daughter Sheila Nuckols, son James Nuckols, and brothers Noah Wix, Alton Wix, and Richard Wix. Funeral services were held on Tues., May 3, 2005 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.  Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery.

Gary Dale MEADOR, 56, of Portland died on Wed., May 4, 2005 in Nashville.  A Sumner Co. native, he was born on March 1, 1949 to the late James Mitchell Meador.  His mother survives.  He was employed as an x-ray technician and had served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam era.  He was a member of the Portland First Baptist Church.  He was preceded in death by his father, James Mitchell Meador, and grandparents, Rosalee and James Meador and Flora and Grover Miller.  Funeral services were held on Sat., May 7, 2005 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.  Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery.

Robert Miles COLEMAN, 83 of Portland died on Sun., May 8, 2005 at Vanderbilt Hospital.  a native of Virginia, he was born on Dec. 13, 1921 to the late Geneva and Henry Coleman.  He worked for the City of Portland in the Parks Department.  He served his country in the U. S. Army and was a World War II veteran. Funeral services were held on Tues., May 10, 2005 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.  Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery.

Rev. James Martin COOK, 83, of Franklin, Ky. died on Wed., May 4, 2005 at the Medical Center in Franklin, Ky.  A native of Simpson Co., Ky., he was the son of the late Maude (Alexander) and Rev. Hobert Cook.  He was a retired farmer and Baptist Minister.  He was a member of Martin's Chapel General Baptist Church since 1930 where he served as deacon, Sunday School teacher and Sunday School Superintendent.  He pastored Clifton General Baptist Church in Scottsville, Ky., State Line General Baptist Church and was interim pastor for Mitchellville General Baptist Church, Mt. Union, Martin's Chapel and Old Liberty General Baptist Churches.  Funeral services were held on Fri., May 6, 2005 at Martin's Chapel Church in Franklin, Ky.  Burial was at the church cemetery.  Crafton Funeral Home of Franklin, Ky was in charge of all arrangements.

Adell Carter PERRY, 76, formerly of Scottsville, Ky. died on Wed., May 11, 2005 at her residence in Havre, Mont.  A Sumner Co. native, she was the daughter of the late Ella Mae (Hudson) and Elmer Gilbert Trammell. She was the wife of the late James Arnett Carter and Kenneth R. Perry.  She was a daycare caregiver, homemaker and founding member of Havre Church of Christ.  She was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Trammel, as well as both parents and two husbands.  Funeral services were held on Tues., May 17, 2005 at Goad Funeral Home in Scottsville, Ky.  Burial was at Mt. Roy Odell JONES, 77, of Portland died on Wed., May 25, 2005 at his residence.  A Macon Co. native, he was born on July 26, 1927 to the late Loney Marie and James Halum Jones.  After marrying on Sept. 30, 1950, he moved to Indianapolis, Ind. where he was employed for 30 years at Bridgeport Brass Company.  Following his retirement, he returned to Portland in 1981 and worked with Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home until his death. James Edward DOUGLAS, 53, died Tues., May 31, 2005 at University of Kentucky Hospital after a long and courageous battle with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).  Born in Youngstown, Ohio, he was a manager with MTI of Lexington and a 1974 graduate of Kentucky Wesleyan College.  He was a member of Crossroads Christian Church, where he was involved with First Touch Ministry and was a small group leader. Mr. Douglas was a patient advocate for COPD and was recently appointed to the COPD Foundation Patient Advisory Board.  His parents reside in Portland.  Services celebrating his life were held on Fri., June 3, 2005 at Crossroads Christian Church in Lexington, Ky.  Burial was in Lexington Cemetery in Lexington, Ky.

U. college in Bowling Green.  She and her husband farmed in both Portland and Franklin, Ky.  She was the first president of the West Portland Home Demonstration Club and the first Primary Sunday School Superintendent of Union Chapel General Baptist Church.  She was a member of the Professional Business Women's Organization and Friends of the Elmer Hinton Library.  Funeral services were held on Sunday, September 25, 2005 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.  Bro. William Thomas EDSON, 79, of Portland died on Saturday, September 24, 2005 at Sumner Regional Medical Center.  A native of Gloucester, Massachusetts, he was born on March 13, 1926 to the late Mabel (Atlee) and Earl Edson.  He was a retired schoolteacher and was a pilot in the United States Air Force with a Captain's rank.  Private graveside services are planned for October at the Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va.  There will be full military honors during the service.  Portland Funeral Chapel was in charge of all arrangements.

Marion Douglas MARTINDALE, 89, of Culleoka, formerly of Portland, died on Sunday, October 2, 2005.  A Louisiana native, he was born to the late Drue Boyd and Rev. Charles O'Neale Martindale.  He served in the Merchant Marine Corps for seven years after graduating high school and served his country in the United States Marine Corps during World War II.  He was a member of the Maj. Gen. William D. McCain Camp No. 584 Sons of Confederate Veterans and was also a member of the Mt. Alvina L. CLARK, 90, of Portland died on Thursday, October 6, 2005 at Highland Manor.  She was born October 15, 1914 to the late Rosa and Julius Veeck.  Funeral services were held on Sunday, October 9, 2005 at Highland Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Charles Edward "Satch" SLOAN, 68, of Portland died on Saturday, October 8, 2005.  He was born September 3, 1937 to the late Mae and Marion Sloan.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Tilman Sloan and Warney Sloan; and four sisters, Estell Scott, Polly Sloan, Viola Dean and Ivy Peabody.  Funeral services were held on Tuesday, October 11, 2005 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.  Interment was at Old Brush Cemetery.

James Bransford PERRY, 62, of Portland died on Friday, October 7, 2005 at his residence.  A Sumner County native, he was born on June 1, 1943 to the late Mary and William Perry.  He was a member of the Corinth Church of Christ and had been a member of Portland City Limits for 25 years.  He was preceded in death by both parents; a sister, Juanita McCormick; and a brother, William Perry, Jr.  Funeral services were held on Sunday, October 9, 2005 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.  Interment was at Old Brush Cemetery.

Elberta BRILEY, 70, of Portland died on Saturday, October 15, 2005 at Tennessee Christian Medical Center in Portland.  A native of Simpson County, Kentucky, she was born on January 15, 1935 to the late Mary and Ernest Maulden.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Briley, Jr., her son, Charles Edward Briley, and a brother, J. Maulden.  Funeral services were held on Tuesday, October 18, 2005 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.  Interment was at Old Brush Cemetery.

Catherine CROWDER, 76, of Portland died on Thursday, October 13, 2005 at Vanderbilt Medical Center.  A Sumner County native, she was born on November 20, 1928 to the late Clara and Tommie Dobbs.  She was a member of Fountain Head Church of Christ and was a clerk at the Fountain Head post office until its closing in 1958.  She was a deeply devoted wife, mother and grandmother.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J. H. Crowder, a sister, Ruth Withrow, and a brother, Paul Dobbs.  Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. at Fountain Head Church of Christ.  Mark Hearn and John Dennis Crowder will officiate the service.  Interment will be at Crestview Memorial Gardens.

Katherine KEITH, 89, of Franklin, Kentucky died on Wednesday, October 12, 2005 at The Medical Center in Franklin, Kentucky.  A Nashville native, she was born to the late Fannie Mae and Clarence Neal Dinning.  She was the wife of the late Thomas Johnson Keith.  She was a member of the Round Pond Presbyterian Church and retired from Kendall County.  She was preceded in death by two brothers, Cecil Dinning and James "Dick" Dinning.  Booker-Gilbert Funeral Home of Franklin, Ky. was in charge of all arrangements.

Ruth Oakley Agee DENNING, 82, of Portland died on Monday, October 17, 2005 at NHC Healthcare in Springfield.  A Wilson County native, she was born on July 21, 1923 to the late Ina (Perkins) and Robert Oakley.  She was a retired secretary.  She was a member of the Red Boiling Springs Cumberland Presbyterian Church.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Gaylon Denning.  Funeral services will be held at 11 a. m. on Wednesday, October 19, 2005 in the Oakhurst Chapel of the Robertson County Funeral Home.  Interment services will be conducted at 2 p. m. at Commerce Cemetery in Watertown.  Tim Harris will officiate.

James Edward TRAMMELL, 76, of Winfield died on Tuesday, October 18, 2005 at his residence.  He was born on January 8, 1929 to the late Minnie Lee and Henry Trammell.  He was preceded in death by both parents and a son, James Jeffery Trammell.  Funeral services were held on Friday, October 21, 2005 at West-Murley Funeral Home in Oneida.  Interment was at Chitwood Cemetery with full military honors provided by American Legion Post #136 of Oneida.

Ernest Leon McCOIN, 59, of Middletown, Ohio, formerly of Portland, died on Friday, October 14, 2005 at Fort Hamilton Hospital.  A Sumner County native, he was born on October 3, 1946 to the late Leanor (Trammell) and Will McCoin.  He was preceded in death by both parents and a brother, Ollie McCoin.  Funeral services were held on Monday, October 17, 2005 at Wilson-Schramm-Spaulding Funeral Home in Middletown, Ohio.  Interment was at Woodside Cemetery.

George M. Walter BADGER, 96, of Portland died on Sunday, October 23, 2005 at Highland Manor Nursing Home.  A Montana native, he was born on September 19, 1909 to the late Edna (Shafer) and Marion Badger.  He was a retired plasterer.  He was a veteran of the United States Army and fought for his country during World War II.  Funeral services were held on Tuesday, October 25, 2005 at Portland Funeral Chapel.  Interment was at Old Brush Cemetery.

Allene Moye McVEY, 85, of Rockville, Maryland, formerly of Portland, died on Saturday, October 22, 2005.  She was born in Brackintown on February 17, 1920 to the late Fannye Belle (Anthony) and Virgil Ernest Moye.  She was a 1938 graduate of Sumner County High School and worked at the Bureau of Vital Statistics in Nashville during World War II.  She married and relocated to Connecticut, where she worked in banking for 37 years.  She was a member of the Elmwood Community Church in West Hartford, Conn.  She relocated to Maryland in 1998 to be near her daughter and son-in-law.  She was preceded in death by her first cousin, H. K. McGlothlin, and special friends, Grace Evans and Josephine King.  Funeral services will be held at 11 a. m. on Thursday, October 27, 2005 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.  Interment will be at Maple Hill Cemetery.

Josephine "Jo" HAMMERSKY, 61, of Cottontown died on Friday, October 21, 2005.  A Sumner County native, she was born to Mary Ellean (Hammock) Latimer and the late Gomer Thomas Latimer.  Funeral services will be held at 1 p. m. on Wednesday, October 26, 2005 at Pleasant Hill Church.  Interment will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.

Becky CHARLTON, 71, of Portland, formerly of Adolphus, Ky., died on Saturday, october 22, 2005 at Sumner Regional Medical Center.  The Allen County, Ky. native was a homemaker and the daughter of the late Loatie Vivian (Gibbs) and William Hershel Carter and the wife of the late Lloyd L. Charlton.  Funeral services were held on Tuesday, October 25, 2005 at Goad Funeral Home in Franklin, Ky.  Burial was in Carter's Tabernacle Cemetery.

Connie BINION, 68, of Lafayette, formerly of Franklin, Ky., died on Sunday, October 29, 2005 at Alive Hospice Residence in Nashville.  The Macon County native was the son of the late Elizabeth Earl (Carter) and Leon Binion.  He was a supervisor for Sunbeam Company and a mason with the New Roe Masonic Lodge.  Funeral services will be held at 11 a. m. on Wednesday, November 2, 2005 at Crafton Funeral Home in Franklin, Ky.  Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the Simpson County Honor Guard.

Helen Jeanette Moore JOHNS, 84, of Portland died on Tuesday, November 1, 2005 at her residence.  A Franklin, Ky. native, she was born on August 15, 1922 to the late Lucy Eva (Dodson) and Walter Smith Moore.  She was a graduate of Sumner County High School, Sullins College in Bristol, Va., and MTSU of Murfreesboro.  She was an elementary school teacher and taught at Watt Hardison Elementary School for many years.  She was a member of McKendree Memorial United Methodist Church, where she served as church organist for many years.  She was preceded in death by her husband, John William (Billy) Johns.  Funeral services were held on Saturday, November 5, 2005 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.  Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery.

William Houston BOYD, Sr., 77, of Franklin, Ky. died on Sunday, October 30, 2005 at Veteran's Hospital in Murfreesboro.  A Simpson County, Ky. native, he was the son of the late Dora (Eldridge) and Ewing Boyd.  He was self employed as a carpenter.  He was a member of Soul Harbor Church.  He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sandy Boyd, and two brothers, Bobby Boyd and Gilbert Boyd.  Funeral services were held on Thursday, November 3, 2005 at Crafton Funeral Home in Franklin, Ky.  Burial at Greenlawn Cemetery.

Harold E. DAWSON, 95, of Franklin, Ky. died on Saturday, November 26, 2005 at The Medical Center in Franklin, Ky.  The Simpson County Ky. native was born to the late Flora Mae (Durham) and James Esley Dawson.  He was a member of the Franklin Church of Christ.  He was a Mason and a member of the American Legion Post #62.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah Bernice Dawson, his daughter, Sally K. Dawson, and a sister, Edith Roberts Akins.  Graveside services were held on Tuesday, November 29, 2005 at Greenlawn cemetery in Franklin, Ky.  Full military rites were performed by the Simpson County Honor Guard.  Booker-Gilbert Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.

Velma Grace Castor OWENS, 94, formerly of Portland, died on Friday, November 25, 2005 at Laurelbrook Nursing Home in Dayton.  She was employed for many years as a nurse at Highland Hospital and worked with Dr. Dittes and many others in the profession.  She and her late husband, John Owens, served on the faculty at Highland Academy for many years.  Funeral services were held on Sunday, November 27, 2005 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.

James HESTER, 62, of Gallatin died on Wednesday, November 30, 2005 at his residence.  A Sumner County native, he as born on December 29, 1942 to the late Elizabeth Dean (Broadrick) and James Erbie Hester.  He was retired from Womerco in Nashville and had worked for the Resource Authority as supervisor of the recycle division.  He owned and operated the Red Barn Market and Garden Center in Gallatin from 1986 - 1991.  He served his country in the United States Navy.  He was Pentecostal in belief and attended The Gallatin Chapel.  Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 3, 2005 at the Chapel of the Anderson & Anderson Funeral Home in Gallatin.  Interment was in Restlawn Memory Gardens.

Marguerite CAUDILL, 89, of Portland died on Thursday, December 1, 2005 at Highland Manor.  A Sumner County native, she was born on November 29, 1916 to the late Commie and Newt Carter.  She was a member of the Portland Class of 1934 District Championship basketball team and later played in the Industrial League while employed by Genesco.  She was retired from The Farmers Bank after 25 years of service.  She was a longtime member of the Church of Christ.  She was preceded in death by both parents and her husband W. D. Caudill.  Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 3, 2005 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.  Interment was at Maple Hill Cemetery.

WOODS, 73, of Portland died on Tuesday, December 6, 2005.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Lillian (Burgett) and Marshall Woods, and brothers Louie Woods and Ellis Woods.  Funeral services were held on Friday, December 9, 2005 at the chapel of Alexander Funeral Home in Gallatin.  Burial was in Sumner Memorial Gardens.

Curtiss KEY, 63, of Vienna, Ill. and a former resident of Athens, died on Tuesday, December 14, 2005 at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, Ky.  A native of Athens, he was born on June 4, 1942 to Marjorie Lee (Tinker) Key and James Mitchell Key.  He was the owner/operator of Curt's Appliance Service in Athens from 1980 - 1989 and in Vienna, Ill. from 1990 - 1996.  He served his country in the United States Navy from 1956 - 1979 and was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict.  He was of Baptist faith.  Funeral services were held on Friday, December 16, 2005 at Bailey Funeral Home in Vienna, Ill.

Marie DORRIS, age 82, of Portland died December 17, 2005.  Born in Sumner County on October 10, 1923 to the late Marshall and Annie Johnson.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Dorris.  Funeral services were held at 11 am on Monday, December 19, 2005 at Wilkinson & Wiseman Funeral Home.  Interment will be at Old Brush Cemetery.

Annie Elmerrene LINSON, 83, of Cottontown died on Tuesday, December 20, 2005 at Tennessee Christian Medical Center in Portland.  A Sumner County native, she was born on March 1, 1922 to the late Nonnie Alice (Brinkley) and Thomas Leslie McCrery.  She was a housewife and was married to the late Woodrow Wilson Linson.  Funeral services were held on Friday, December 23, 2005 at Austin and Bell Funeral Home in White House.  Interment was at Hillcrest Cemetery in White House.

Margaret Selma SHRUM, 82, of Portland died on Thursday, December 22, 2005 at Baptist Hospital in Nashville.  A Macon County native, she was born on March 19, 1923 to the late Maude and Will Farley.  Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 24, 2005 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home.  Bro. Jimmy Turner officiated the service.  Interment was at Green Grove Cemetery in Macon County.
