She was born March 11, 1960 in Robertson Co. to the late Frances Jewell (Dorris) and James Odell Mooneyhan. Survived by two sons, one sister, two brothers, one granddaughter and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on Fri, Sept. 19, 2003 at Wilkinson and Wiseman Funeral Home. Burial was at Jake Link Cemetery.
Joan Barnes WALLACE, 57, of Franklin, Ky., died on Tues., Sept. 16, 2003 at her residence. A native of Stewart Co., she was the daughter of the late Emma (Watkins) and Walter Barnes. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mark Samuel Wallace. She was a homemaker and a member of the Franklin Pentecostal Church. Robert Virgil SCRUGGS, 85, of Sellersburg, Ind. died on Sun., Sept. 21, 2003 at the Sellersburg Health and Rehab Center in Sellersburg, IN. He was a native of Hartsville and a retired farmer. Curtiss Ray BARBER, 85, of Portland died on Fri., Sept. 19, 2003 at his residence. A Sumner Co., native, he was born on May 10, 1918 to the late Hattie Theresa (Allison) and Charlie Nye Barber. He served in the U. S. Air Force, was a retired salesperson in the auto parts industry and was also a retired farmer. Rev. John Daniel (Dan) BROWN, 54, of Portland died on Sun., Sept. 21, 2003 at his residence. A Simpson Co., KY. native, he was born on April 3, 1949 to the late Hattie Mae (Hobdy) and Fay Brown. He was a mechanic, as well as a minister. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, two sons, three sisters, two brothers, and four grandchildren. W. P. "Pat" STOVALL, 89, of Portland, died on Wed., Sept. 17, 2003 at Tennessee Christian Medical Center/Portland. A Sumner Co. native he was born on Sept. 12, 1914 to the late Frances Elizabeth (Patterson) and William Frank Stovall. He was retired from Consumer Rexall Drug Store as the owner/operator. He was also a retired farmer. He was a life-long member of the Portland Church of Christ, serving as deacon and elder for many years. He served on the Board of Directors at the Farmers Bank and the Portland Housing Authority. He was a charter member of the Portland Lions Club and was active in civic and business affairs in the community. He is survived by his wife, one son, three grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Fri., Sept. 19, 2003 at the Portland Church of Christ. Burial was at Maple Hill Cemetery. Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Ronald Lee BRUMBAUGH, 83, of Morningside of Gallatin, formerly of Heber Springs, Ark., died on Mon., Sept. 22, 2003 at Sumner Regional Medical Center. A native of St. Jo, Texas, he was the son of the late Susie (Austin) and Harry Brumbaugh. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Tew Brumbaugh and his brother, A. J. Brumbaugh. He was a retired colonel from the United States Air Force, where he served for 30 years. He was a member of the Old Union Church of Christ. He is survived by one son, four granddaughters, and seven great grandchildren. Services will be conducted in the Woodland Cemetery in Fairfield Bay, Ark. Anderson & Anderson Funeral Home in Gallatin is in charge of all local arrangements.

Juanita H. SWANN, 88, formerly of Portland, died on Sun., Sept. 28, 2003 at Mariner Health of Wilmington, NC. Born in Waco, Texas, she was the daughter of Maryetta (Dobbs) and Earl Simmons Haner. She lived the majority of her adult life in Portland, where she and her husband, John, opened a print shop and began publication of the Sumner County Leader in 1954. She was a longtime member of McKendree Memorial United Methodist Church, the Order of the Eastern Star, the Portland Chamber of Commerce, the Garden Club and the Home Demonstration Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Swann of Portland and by two brothers, Harold W. Haner and Earl D. Haner, both of Bowling Green, KY. She is survived by two sons, one brother, three grandsons, and three great-granddaughters. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date and interment will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery in Portland.
Juanita GANT, 70, of Indianapolis, Ind. died on Thurs., Sept. 16, 2003 at her residence. She was born on Aug. 23, 1933 in Sumner Co. to the late Maggie (Bush) and Roy Russell Gray. She was employed by RCA as an assembler. Betty Pilkerton Goodman PEARSON, 76, a resident of Westmoreland Care and Rehab Center, died on Fri., Oct. 10, 2003 at Tennessee Christian Medical Center in Portland. She was born in Indianapolis, Ind. on Feb. 12, 1927 to the late Blanche (Hamilton) and Paul Pilkerton. She was a homemaker. She was married to Charles Goodman, who preceded her in death on Feb. 29, 1992 and later was married to Swaney Pearson, who preceded her in death on Aug. 6, 2001. She was a member of the Portland Church of Christ. She is survived by two sons, one brother, and five grandchildren. He served in the U. S. Army and was retired from Moore Motor Co. He was a member of the McKendree Memorial United Methodist Church, the Portland Lions Club and a charter member of the Dogwood Hills Country Club. James Raymond BRANHAM, 86, of the Rock Bridge community of Sumner Co., died on Fri., Oct. 24, 2003 at Sumner Regional Medical Center. A native of Sumner Co., he was born on June 28, 1917 to the late Eunice (Crowder) and Lellard Branham. He was a farmer and had served in the U.S. Army during WWII as a Staff Sergeant. He received the EAMET Service Medal, American Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and a Purple Heart and Bronze Star for his heroic actions in combat. He was married to the former Alma Lee Hargis, who preceded him in death on Jan. 28, 2003. He was also preceded in death by sisters Betty Brooks, Camy Baskerville and Hazel Hooker; brothers Clayburn, Esley, and James B. Branham; and half brothers Odie and Jimmy Harris. He is survived by one son, two sisters, one brother, two grandsons, one step-grandchild, one great -grandchild, and one niece. Funeral services were held on Sun., Oct. 26, 2003 at Anderson & Anderson Funeral Home Chapel in Gallatin. Interment was at Crestview Memorial Park in Gallatin with a twelve-man United States Army detail performing full military honors.

A native of West Virginia, she was born on Sept. 11, 1914 to the late Sarah (Browning) and Alfred Blankenship. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by husbands Shellie Morgan, Jr. and Drewey Blankenship; children Lily Mae Joiz and Delmas Blankenship; and three brothers and sisters. She is survived by five daughters, on son, four sisters, two brothers, 15 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 7 great, great grandchildren. Michael W. ANDREWS, 64, of Ocala, Fla. died on Wed., Nov. 5, 2003 at Monroe Regional Medical Center in Ocala, Fla. A native of Battle Creek, Mich., he was born on Aug. 6, 1939 to the late Winifred Isabel Claire (Huonker) and Michael Frederick Andrews. He was a retired maintenance worker and was formerly employed by Jumbolair Farms and MedX. As a young man, he was a drummer in Battle Creek area bands and later moved to Tenn. and played as a backup drummer on the Porter Wagoner Show. He also played with Del Shannon, Frankie Sells, Bobby Edwards, Dolly Parton and other artists. He was preceded in death by his mother, Winifred Andrews, in 1995 and by his brother, Larry Andrews in 1992. He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, one daughter (of Portland) one son, one stepdaughter, one stepson, father, one sister, one brother, six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held on Mon., Nov. 10, 2003 at Ocala Word of Faith in Ocala, Fla.

Edith Sherron STROTHER, 93, of Gallatin died on Tues., Nov. 25, 2003 at Sumner Regional Medical Center. A Sumner Co. native, she was born on Aug. 25, 1910 to the late Ida (Dorris) and Willie Sherron. Prior to her retirement, she worked at Genesco for 35 years. She was one of the oldest members of the West End Missionary Baptist Church in Gallatin. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Owen Lee Strother, who passed in April of 1991. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Annie Duncan, and four brothers, Cecil, Walter, Raleigh, and Watson Sherron. She is survived by one daughter of White House, one son of Elizabethtown, Ky, two sisters, four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Fri., Nov. 28, 2003 at Anderson & Anderson Funeral Home Chapel in Gallatin. Burial was at Crestview Memorial Park.

Odell Lorenzo BROWN, 96, of Newbury Park, Calif., died on Tues., Nov. 25, 2003. A native of Tennessee, he was born on Sept. 27, 1907 to the late Lula Martha (Richardson) and William Jackson Brown. He married Edna Bell Nobel in 1931 and was later divorced. He then married Francetta Rustin on Aug. 20, 1950 at Forest Grove, Wash. She preceded him in death on Nov. 21, 2001. He was a commercial fisherman and also worked in the saw mills for several years. He is survived by two sons and four grandchildren. Graveside services were held on Sun., Dec. 7, 2003 at Old Brush Cemetery.

Billy H. LANE, 75, of Winchester, Ky., died on Fri., Dec. 5, 2003. A Portland native, he was born on July 5, 1928 to the late Myrtle (Cannon) and Owen Lane. He was graduated from Western Kentucky University and was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He retired after 38 years of employment with Tennessee Gas Pipeline Co. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Winchester, Ky. He was also a woodoworker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Christine West of Portland. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, two sons, a twin sister, one brother, and two grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Mon., Dec. 8, 2003 at the First United Methodist Church in Winchester, Ky. Burial was at Maple Hill Cemetery.

William Melvin STAGGS, 86, of Franklin, Ky. died on Thurs., Dec. 11, 2003. A Tennessee native, he was born on August 11, 1917 to the late Ethyl Mae (Garrett) and Charles Bennet Staggs. He was retired from Lawnlite as a general manager and served as a deacon of Mitchellville General Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his first wife and mother of his sons, Ruby Agnes Brown Staggs. He is survived by his second wife of Franklin, Ky., two sons and six grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Sat., Dec. 13, 2003 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home. Burial was at Mitchellville General Baptist Church Cemetery.
Lamon Arlene CARTER, 89, of Portland died on Mon., Dec. 8, 2003 at Tennessee Christian Medical Center in Portland. A Macon Co. native, she was born on Oct. 5, 1914 to the late Nerva Lee (Shrum) and Odell Carter. She was a homemaker. She is survived by her sister, two nieces, two nephews, and several great nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on Thurs., Dec. 11, 2003 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home. Burial was at Maple Hill Cemetery.
Lou Ellen DULIN, 75, of Portland died on Thurs., Dec. 11, 2003 at Sumner Regional Medical Center. A Sumner Co. native, she was born on Oct. 23, 1928 to the late Lorene (Crafton) and Roy Lamberth. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilford (Skip) Dulin, one daughter, Wanda Dulin, and one son, David Dulin. She is survived by one daughter and one son of Portland, two brothers, eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. Guilford Louis SUTTLE, 85, of Portland died on Fri., Dec 19, 2003 at his residence. A Sumner Co. native, he was born on Oct. 6, 1918 to the late Versie (White) and Clarence Suttle. He was retired from United Structures of America and was also retired from Eaton Corp. He was a member of Portland Masonic Lodge #326. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, five grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. A Masonic service was held on Sun., Dec 21, 2003. Funeral services were held on Mon., Dec. 22, 2003 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home. Burial was at Restlawn Memory Garden in the Masonic Garden section.
Richard Harry KENNEDY, 67, of Portland died on Mon., Dec. 22, 2003. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, four sons, 23 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Fri., Dec. 26, 2003 at 2:00 P. M. at Portland Church of the Nazarene. Albert "Jack" TAYLOR, 79, of the South Tunnel Community of Sumner Co., died on Sun., Dec. 21, 2003 at Alive Hospice in Nashville. A Sumner Co. native, he was born on Nov. 16, 1924 to the late Mary J. (McCullough) and Ray Taylor. He was retired from Time DC Trucking Corp., where he worked for 31 1/2 years. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a member of the Gallatin American Legion and a member of Bush's Chapel Church of Christ, where he served as a deacon. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, two daughters, two sisters, five grandcildren, and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held on Tues., Dec. 23, 2003 at Anderson & Anderson Funeral Chapel in Gallatin. Burial was a Bush's Chapel Cemetery.
Anna Marie HIBDON, 72, of Portland died on Fri., Dec. 19, 2003 at her residence. She was born on April 17, 1931 to the late Mary Elizabeth (Byrd) and Hubert Perkins. She was retired from Kmart as a cashier. She is survived by one daughter of Portland. A memorial services was held on Tues., Dec. 23, 2003 at Wilkinson-Wiseman Funeral Home. The remains were cremated.
