Lizzie Marion Belcher, 1914

Submitted by Jan J. Barnes

This newspaper obituary was found in a scrapbook belonging to Lela Smart Johnson.  Lela ( born March 15, 1892, died April 15, 1989)  was the daughter of James Marion Smart and Nina Belcher.  Nina Belcher Smart was the only daughter of Lizzie Lucas and George Belcher.

Mrs. Lizzie Marion Belcher was born November 16, 1847 was married to Geo. T. Belcher December 18, 1870.

She professed in Christ and joined the Methodist church in 1878 at Bethel in Wilson County, Tennessee.  She departed this life March 20, 1914.

She had been in bad health for many years, and her going away was not unexpected.  Her house is in order. She was ready to go.  Her end was peace.

She died as peacefully and sweetly as an infant going to sleep in its mother's arms.

She was a good woman, a true companion, a fond and faithful mother, a true friend.  She was given to hospitality.  She loved for her preacher to come and always tried to have him something good to eat.

Her funeral was held by the writer in Bethel church and her body laid to rest in the Cemetery near by, to rest till the trumpet of God shall sound and the dead shall rise to meet the Lord and be with Him forever.

She leaves a devoted husband and three children, two sons and a daughter, several grandchildren and many relatives and friends who will greatly miss her.

She cannot come back to you, Dear Ones, but you can go to her.
Joseph Webster
