George W. Horton, 72, died early yesterday morning at his home, 609 N. Fourth St. after a long illness. Mr. Horton was injured in a fall from a tobacco barn in Smith County 22 years ago and had been a semi-invalid since that time. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. today at Shelby Avenue Baptist Church. The Rev. P. F. Langston and the Rev. J. W. Mayfield will officiate. Burial will be in the Spring Hill cemetery. The body is at the residence. Mr. Horton was a native of Smith County, where he was engaged in farming before his accident. His parents were Dave and Nancy Welch Horton. He had lived in Nashville for 18 years and was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Leona Smith Horton; five daughters, Mrs. Toy Boyd of Baxter, Tenn. Mrs. Joe Lewis of Joelton, Tenn. , Mrs. Bethel Shoemake and Mrs. Harry Roberts of Nashville; Mrs. J. W. Carter of Clarksville; 16 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; two sisters, Mrs. Robert Gilbert, and Mrs. Jim Jarrett of Nashville; four brothers, Albert and Clarence Horton of Nashville, Willie Horton of Carthage, Tenn., and Walter Horton of Hopkinsville, Ky. Reuben Horton - 1 Killed, 2 Hurt As Trucks Crash A Davidson County truck driver was killed and another truck driver and a pedestrian were injured early yesterday near Elizabethtown, Ky. when two heavy vehicles crashed head on while attempting to avoid the pedestrian. Dead is Reuben Horton, 42, of Edenwold community, driver for Terminal Transport Company. The injured were identified by Kentucky State highway patrolmen as John P. Berry, 34, Louisville, driver for Coldway Transport Co., Louisville, and Mrs. Joseph G. Lee, Upton, Ky. Teddy Bennett, radio operator at the Elizabethton patrol station, said Mrs. Lee apparently walked into the paths of the two trucks as they met in Upton, a small community 16 miles south of Elizabethtown. Bennett said the two vehicles swerved to avoid striking her. The accident occurred at 4:40 a.m. Mrs. Lee and Berry were treated and released at Brick Hospital, Fort Knox, Ky. Horton was dead on arrival at the hospital. J. R. Riddle, dispatcher at the company's terminal here said Horton left Nashville for Indianapolis, Ind. around 11:30 p.m. Sunday. The body will be brought to Eastland Funeral Home, 904 Gallatin road. Funeral arrangements were incomplete last night. Horton was a native of Smith County and had lived in Nashville for 16 years. He had been with Terminal Transport Co. for the past five years. Prior to that, he had been a driver for Southeastern Motor Freight Lines. He married the former Miss Myrtle Shoemake of Smith County. In addition to his widow, he is survived by a daughter Shirley Edith Horton, Nashville; a son Melvin Carrol Horton, U. S. Army, Fort Hancock, N.J.; and five sisters, Mrs. Toy Boyd, Baxter, Tenn., Mrs. Joe Lewis, Joelton, Tenn., Mrs. J. W. Madison, TN - HORTON, Myrtle Shoemake-Age 73 years, Thursday August 8, 1985. Survived by daughter, Shirley Beard, Manville, TX; son, Melvin Horton, Nashville; eight grandchildren five great grandchildren; sister, Monta Allison, Carthage; brothers, Frank Shoemake, Carthage, Charlie Shoemake, Elmwood. Gilbert, Mrs. Sinnie M. Age 98, March 6, 1971 - Survived by two daughters, Mrs. Mary L. Robinson, Mrs. Louise Ivey, both of Nashville; two sons, Henry and Albert Gilbert of Franklin; one sister, Mrs. Becky Jarrett, of Nashville; two brothers, Walter Horton, Paducah, Ky., Clarence Horton, Nashville; 24 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren. Remains are at Franklin Memorial Chapel where services will be conducted 11:30 a.m. Monday by Walter Lee Smithson. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Franklin Memorial Chapel.

Mrs. Lula Gilbert Holt, 54, of Antioch Pike, wife of Wallie Claude Holt, died after a heart attack at 7:00 a.m. yesterday on route to General Hospital. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. at Woodbine Funeral Home. Fay Cornwell will officiate. Burial will be in Franklin, Tenn. A native of Smith County, she had been a resident here most of her life. She was a daughter of Mrs. Fannie Horton Gilbert and the late Bob Gilbert. In 1947 she was married to Holt, a former employee of the Stove Foundry. He survives. Mrs. Holt was a member of the Church of Christ. She is survived also by a son, Charles Edward Watson, Nashville; four daughters, Mrs. Eula McCanless, Mrs. Mildred Hares, Mrs. Charlene Rogers, and Mrs. Ruby Dean Stopes, all of Nashville; two brothers; Albert and Henry Gilbert, Franklin; two sisters, Mrs. Louise Ivey and Mrs. Mary Robinson, Nashville; and many grandchildren.

Mrs. Bessie Malone, Franklin, Tenn. - Mrs. Bessie Malone, 39, died yesterday at her home on Natchez Trace after a short illness. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Bethurum, Henry and Robinson funeral Home with the Rev. Walter Lee Smithson officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. A native of Williamson County, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Sinnie Horton Gilbert. She is survived by two sons, Frank and Billy Malone; two daughters, Mrs. Roberta Davis and Miss Mary Malone, all of Franklin; three sisters, Mrs. Lula Holt, Mrs. Mary Robinson and Mrs. Louise Ivey, all of Nashville; two brothers, Henry Gilbert of Pegram, Tenn., and Albert Gilbert of Franklin. Ivey, Mrs. Louise Gilbert - Age 60, September 29, 1976 at a local infirmary. Survived by husband, Alvin B. Ivey; daughters, Mrs. Aleene Mangrum, Mrs. Mable Smithson, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Stewart, Mrs. Willie Lee Rye, all Nashville, Mrs. Nancy Louise King, Hillsboro, Tenn.; Son, James Ivey, Nashville; Sister Mrs. Mary Leona Robinson, Nashville Brothers, Henry and Albert Gilbert, Franklin, Tenn.; Thirty-two Grandchildren, Nine Great Grandchildren. Albert Franklin Horton-Suddenly at a local infirmary, Tuesday January 10, 1977. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Horton of Nashville, and two daughters, Mrs. Gloria Jean Bumbalough of Hendersonville and Miss Frankie Elaine Horton of Nashville. A son, Ricky Lynn Horton of Nashville. He is also survived by a brother, James Horton of Hendersonville and two sisters, Mrs. Eva Bradley and Mrs. Emma Childress of Indianapolis, Indiana. His remains are at the Eastland Chapel, 904 Gallatin Rd. where services will be conducted by the Reverend J. W. Mayfield at 1:00 PM Thursday. Interment services will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Sarah Saunders, 62, died at her home, 51 Lindsley Ave. yesterday afternoon following a year's illness of cancer. Mrs. Saunders, born in Smith County, came to Nashville 35 years ago. She was the wife of G. W. Saunders, who survives. She was a member of the Green Street Church of Christ. Funeral Services will be conducted Saturday afternoon at 3:00 at the Green Street Church, with Phillip G. Speer officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olive cemetery. Besides her husband, survivors are a daughter, Mrs. E. G. Lee, Nashville, and a son, C. H. Lane, Nashville; two sisters, Mrs. Jim Jarrett, Nashville, and Mrs. Sinnie Gilbert, Franklin; five brothers, George, Albert, and Clarence Horton all of Nashville, Willie Horton of Chestnut Mound, Tenn. and Walter Horton of Hopkinsville, Ky.; seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Jess Horton, 56, who was killed Saturday night when struck by an automobile on Hermitage Avenue, will be conducted this afternoon at 2:30 p.m. at the Amos Bracey Funeral Home by Elder Leo Boles. Burial will be in MT. Olive cemetery. Mr. Horton, who lived at 44 Middleton Street, was struck shortly after 9:00 p.m. by an automobile which police said was driven by Joe Gilmore Pruitt, 33, of 60 Hermitage Avenue. The accident occurred a few feet north of the Middleton-Hermitage intersection. Pruitt was free last night on $1,000 bond charged with manslaughter. Surviving Mr. Horton are his widow, Mrs. Mary Horton; sons, Frank and Archie Horton; daughters, Mrs. Maggie Burke, Mrs. Ada Bentley, Mrs. Carolyn Butler, Misses Lucile, Hazel, and Mildred Horton; brothers, George, Albert, and Clarence Horton, all of this city, Willie Horton of Chestnut Mound and Walter Horton of Cadiz, Ky.; sisters Mrs. G. Mary Elizabeth Horton Ferguson - Services for Mary Elizabeth (McKnight) Horton Ferguson 97, were held Sunday, l:30 p.m. at Alexander Funeral Home. Burial was at Crestview Memorial Park. Mrs. Ferguson died May 23 (1986) at Sumner Memorial Hospital. Born April 8, 1889, she was a native of Wilson County but resided in Gallatin. She was the daughter of the late James McKnight and the late Fannie Swafford McKnight. Mrs. Ferguson was the wife of the late Jesse Horton and the late Will Ferguson, and mother of son Billy Horton, deceased, and daughter Ader Bently, deceased. She is survived by two sons, Frank W. Horton and James A. Horton, both of Gallatin, and six daughters, Maggie Burke, Carolyn Butler, Jessie Davis, Hazel Dement, Lucille Horton, all of Nashville, and Mildred Ray of Franklin.

Clarence Lee Horton, age 83, July 26, 1980 at a local infirmary. Survived by Daughter, Mrs. Alline Vester; three grandchildren; several great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Remains are at Forest Lawn Funeral Home where services will be conducted Monday, July 28, 1980 at 1 P.M. with Dr. Charles Worrell. Pallbearers will be friends. He was a Baptist. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Iva M. Horton; seven Daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Pannell, Mrs. Rebecca Meadows, Mrs. May Carmichal, Mrs. Sarah Upchurch, Mrs. Laura Rochin, Mrs. Lena Comenero, and Miss. Mrs. Albert F. Horton 47, of 5301 Pennsylvania Ave. died at 9:30 A.M. yesterday at Vanderbilt Hospital. Services will be at 2 P.M. today at Pettus, Owen, and Wood Funeral Home. The Rev. Ben D. Osburn will officiate with burial in Mount Olive. She was a member of the Missionary Baptist church. A native of Nashville, she was the former Easter Bailey. Survivors include her husband; seven daughters; Mrs. Bud Pannell, Mrs. James Meadows, Mrs. Steve Rochin, Miss Lena Horton, and Miss Shirley Ann Horton; 1 sister, Mrs. Billie Mae Inman; two brothers; Henry and J. James H. Jarrett - Services for James H. Jarrett, 71, of 174 Short Wharf Ave., retired Davidson County farmer, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Ellis Funeral Home. Carl Robinson, Church of Christ minister, will officiate. Burial will be in National Cemetery. Mr. Jarrett died Tuesday night at his residence. A native of Hendersonville, he was a son of the late William and Mattie Archie Jarrett. He married the former Miss Rebecca Horton of Smith County in 1926. She survives. Other survivors are one stepson, Charles Wright; five sisters, Mrs. Emma Myers, Mrs. Lockie Brown, Mrs. Mary Omohundro, Mrs. Beulah Leaver and Mrs. Edna Neese; two brothers, George J. Jarrett and Charles Jarrett, all of Nashville; and three step-grandchildren. (27 April 1965)

Walter Horton-Services for Walter Claiborne Horton 77, of 933 E. 12th St., were here today. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery. Mr. Horton died at 11:45 a.m. Friday at Christian Health Center after a long illness. He was a native of Smith County, Tenn., born Sept. 15, 1900, the son of John and Nancy Welch Horton. His wife, Jane Huddleston Horton, preceded him in death. He was a retired farmer. Survivors include one daughter, Ann Reeves, this city; one brother, Clarence Horton, Nashville, Tenn.; one sister, Rebecca Jarrett, La Vergne, Tenn.; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Larkin Reeves-Larkin Lee "Sport" Reeves, 65, of 1402 Summit St. died at 9:10 p.m. Saturday of an apparent heart attack. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Henninger Funeral Home with burial in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. A native of Todd County, he was born April 11, 1920, the son of the late Ed and Rosie Brewer Reeves. He was a retired taxi cab driver for Babbage Cab Co. and a veteran of the Army in World War II. A son, Claiborne Reeves, died in 1974. Survivors include his wife, Ann Elizabeth Horton Reeves; a son, Donnie Reeves, Hopkinsville; five daughters, Mrs. William (Mary Ann) Moore and Mrs. Todd (Susan) Elam, both of Hopkinsville, Mrs. Steve (Sherry) Grace, Kingwood, Texas, Mrs. John (Connie) Guinn, Cadiz, and Mrs. Stewart (Lynda) Goodwin, Cerulean; a brother, Eugene Reeves, Hopkinsville; five sisters, Estelle Wheller, Nettie Allen, Doshie Duke, all of Hopkinsville, Mabel Allen Brownsville, Tenn., and Mary Welker, Ill.; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mrs. Nancy Jane Iventh, 65, native of Hopkinsville, Ky., and resident of Nashville for the last 18 years, who died Tuesday evening, were held this afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at Roesch-Johnson-Charlton funeral home. The Rev. H. H. Wise officiated.
Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Her sons were pallbearers. Mrs. Iventh made her home here at 429 1/2 Houston Street. She moved to Nashville after her marriage but later returned to Kentucky. In recent years she had made her home with children here. Mrs. Iventh was a devoted member of the Nazarene Church. For the last two years she was in ill health. Survivors are six sons, George, Jesse, Willie, Albert, Clarence and Walter Horton, and three daughters, Mrs. Robert Gilmore, Mrs. George Saunders and Mrs. Jim Jarratt. *(Submitted by Gary Webb.)
