Funeral services for Pvt. Harris Lee Short, 23, who died in action in France, July 15, 1944 will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Longview Church of Christ. S. P. Pittman will officiate, and burial will be in the National Cemetery with American Legion Post 5 in charge.
The body arrived here this morning and was taken to the home of his mother, Mrs. Rosa Short, 2141 Cannady Avenue. A native of Sumner County, he was the son of the late Lee Short. He received his education at Oakland and moved to Nashville 11 years ago. Before entering the service in November, 1942, he was employed by the Cumberland Tobacco Company. He took his basic training at Fort Hancock, N. J. and went overseas with an infantry unit in April, 1944.
Private Short was a member of the Church of Christ.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by a son, H. L. Short, Jr.; a daughter, Betty Short; a sister Mrs. J. T. Greer, all of this city; and three brothers, Robert Short of Columbia, S. C., Leonard Short of Canton, Ohio and Luther Short of White House, Tenn.

LOCAL INFANTRYMAN KILLED IN FIGHTING IN FRANCE
Pvt. Harris Lee Short 22, husband of Mrs. Frances Logan Short, 2233 Winford Avenue was killed in action in France, July 15, his widow has been notified by the war department. Member of an infantry outfit, Private Short entered the service in November 1942, and took his basic training at Fort Hancock, N.J. He was employed by Cumberland Tobacco Company prior to entering the service and had been overseas since April of this year. Survivors in addition to his widow include a son Harris Lee Short, Jr.; his mother Ms. Rosa Short; a sister Mrs. J. T. Greer and three brothers, Luther and Leonard Short and Pvt. Robert Short.
