Mrs. John Cantrell.
Mrs. Mary Cage Cantrell, wife of John Cantrell, died Tuesday morning, December 2nd, at their home near Shackle Island. She had been ill only a few days, having suffered a stroke of paralysis. Her death came as a great shock to relatives and friends and is the occasion of widespread sorrow. Before her marriage the deceased was Miss Mary Cage, daughter of James and Sallie Boddie Cage of Gallatin. She is survived by her husband and eight children. She is survived also by one brother, Charles Cage of Indianapolis, and three sisters, Mrs. J. M. Beakly of Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, and Misses Josephine and Alice Cage of this county. Mrs. Cantrell had been since childhood a member of the Methodist Church. Funeral services were conducted at the family residence at 10 o'clock am yesterday by Rev. J. R. Stewart. The burial was at the Gallatin Cemetery at 11:30 o'clock yesterday.

In Memoriam.
On Friday, November 21, Mrs. A. F. Slayton passed away very suddenly at her home in Neuhardt, Arkansas, near Memphis. Mrs. Slayton is lovingly remembered here as Miss Johnetta Smith, born and reared in this county, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. K. Smith. She was married to Mr. A. F. Slayton of Senatobia, Mississippi, about fifteen years ago, and to this union were born four lovely children, Frances Virginia, who has been in school here this fall; Rayburn, Margaret, and Arthur, Jr. All the above mentioned survive her, except her mother who passed away some years ago. She is also survived by her brother, Mr. Oscar Smith of Gallatin and a half-brother, Mr. G. Tom Brown also of Gallatin, and two half-sisters, Miss Eunice Brown of New York, who has gone to make her home with the bereaved family, and Mrs. W. N. Anderson of LaMesa, Texas. Sorrowing friends of Sumner County extend to the bereaved sincere and loving sympathy.

In Memoriam.
Mrs. John Mason died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. R. N. Branham, Gray Street, Tuesday evening, November the 25, of heart trouble. Mrs. Mason was 70 years old. Before her marriage she was Miss Ellen Williams. She was born in Allen County, Kentucky, in 1854 but has lived in Sumner County since 1861. She was a true Christian woman, patient in all her trials and sufferings. She was the mother of a large family. Only three girls survive her, Mrs. B. B. Hargis of Paducah, Kentucky, Mrs. Lula Branham of Route 2, and Mrs. R. N. Branham of Gallatin. She has been since childhood a devout member of the Methodist Church. The burial took place at 10 o'clock Thursday afternoon at Bethpage.

Mrs. Lou Wright
Mrs. Lou Wright died at an early hour Sunday morning at her home on Dry Fork. Mrs. Wright was 77 years old and her death resulted from the infirmities of age. She was born and reared in the community in which she died. She had been for many years a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church and was a woman of beautiful Christian character. In early life she married John W. Wright of this county who died in December 1873. Three children survive this union as follows: John M. Wright, Mrs. Bud Hodges and Miss Mattie Wright, all of this county. Funeral services were conducted at Dry Fork Church at 1 0'clock Monday afternoon by Rev. G. E. Danley, pastor of the church. The burial followed at Dry Fork Cemetery.

Death Calls Mrs. Morton - Former Resident Of Gallatin Passed Away At Grand Rapids.
Mrs. Josephine Morton, widow of the late Rev. J. H. Morton of Gallatin, died Saturday night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Frances Morton-Crume of 658 Innes Street, Grand Rapids, Michigan. Her death followed an illness of only a few hours. Her son, Judge J. D. G. Morton, a prominent citizen of Gallatin, left Sunday morning for Dallas, Texas, where the funeral and burial were held Tuesday. Mrs. Morton was 81 years old the 15th day of last March. She was the daughter of Rev. Dr. Neal, a prominent minister of the Cumberland Church and was born in Barren County, Kentucky. She removed with her husband, Rev. J. H. Morton, to Gallatin some twenty-eight years ago. Rev. Mr. Morton died in April, 1920 while on a visit to his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Bigger, at Dallas, Texas, and was buried at Dallas. Since that time Mrs. Morton had spent the most of the time at Dallas and at Grand Rapids. She is survived by two sons, Judge J. D. G. Morton of Gallatin, and Minor Morton of New York, and two daughters, Mrs. Frances Morton-Crume of Grand Rapids and Mrs. A. C. Bigger of Dallas. She was a life long member of the Presbyterian Church, both her father, Dr. Neal of Glasgow, Ky., and her husband having been ministers in that denominations. She lived and died a consistent Christian and was always active in church work. She was a woman of great culture and refinement and was beloved by a large circle of friends here, and in many sections of the South, where she had lived, as her husband was both a teacher and minister and served in these capacities in a number of states. *(Long obit) Funeral services were held Tuesday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. A. C. Bigger of Dallas.

Widow and Girl Jailed
At Springfield - Ridgetop Killing Subject of Further Investigation.
Mark Dolan, L. & N. Railroad tunnel watchman at Ridgetop, when he met his death from pistol wounds Tuesday afternoon added a sudden twist to the "suicide" case late this afternoon, resulting in the arrest of Mrs. Elizabeth Dolan, 50, his wife, and Miss Margaret Dolan, 17, his adopted daughter, on warrants charging murder. *(Long article.)

Dr. J. B. Gilliam
The death of Dr. J. B. Gilliam occurred recently at his home at Italy, Texas. He was 75 years of age. The deceased is survived by his wife, Mrs. Bettie Gilliam, a son, Horace Gilliam and a daughter, Mrs. H. Martin, all of Italy, Texas. He is survived also by two brothers, Rev. J. P. Gilliam of Carton, Texas, and W. T. Gilliam of Gallatin.

Mrs. W. D. Arterburn. Bethpage, Dec. 11--Mrs. Jennie Arterburn, wife of W. D. Arterburn of Bethpage, died at her home here after a long illness. The deceased, who was 58 years of age, was a devout member of the Bethpage Methodist Church and was quite active in the affairs of the church as long as her health permitted. She had been a teacher in the Sunday School and president of one of the missionary societies. She was formerly a native of Kentucky, until her marriage to Mr. Arterburn, since which time she has resided here. She had made a host of friends here who are grieved at her death. She was a member of the Eastern Star. The funeral service was conducted at the late residence Wednesday afternoon by the Rev. J. T. Brown, pastor of the Bethpage Methodist Church. The burial was held at the Rose Creek Cemetery at Nebo, Kentucky, today. Mrs. Arterburn is survived by one brother and one sister as follows: Ben Knox and Mrs. H. S. Thomas, both of Morton's Gap, Kentucky.

Mrs. J. K. P. Brown
Mrs. Sallie Brown, widow of the late Mr. J. K. P. Brown, died at 2 o'clock a.m., Sunday at her residence on East Main Street. Mrs. Brown was 86 years old and her death resulted from the infirmities of age. She was born in Kentucky but at an early age removed with her parents to this county where she was reared. Before her marriage she was Miss Sallie Moore. Her husband died five years ago. Mrs. Brown was a member of the Gallatin Baptist Church. She was a devout Christian lady and throughout a long life enjoyed the highest respect and esteem of the people among whom she lived. Funeral services were conducted at the residence at 10 o'clock a.m., Monday by Rev. C. H. Bailey of Nashville. The burial was at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Nashville.

Smiley Dies And Son Is Re-arrested.
James Smiley who was shot by his son, Clifford Smiley, at Millersville Sunday night, December 14th, died Saturday at 2 o'clock p.m.. *(More of this article.)

Dies in New York.
The death of Miss Hattie Day, aunt of Miss Mabel Day and Mrs. Edwin Lane of Gallatin, occurred Monday, December 14th at the home of her brother in New York.

Former Citizen Dies.
The death of Mr. R. E. McCulloch, formerly a citizen of Gallatin, occurred at a hospital in Nashville on Saturday, December 18th. Mr. McCulloch who now resides at Clarksville. The deceased was a prominent member of the Methodist Church and was a citizen of high character.
