Mrs. B. H. Brockett,

After a long illness Mrs. Joan Benedict Brockett, one of the oldest and most highly respected ladies in Lafayette, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Geo. W. Johnson, at about eight o'clock Thursday night. She was in her 83rd year, and is survived by her husband, B. H. (Keen) Brocket; five sons, Guy and Berlon Brockett, both of Taylorville, Illinois; Will Brockett of Meador, Ky., Ben Brockett of Claypool, Ky., and Ezra Brockett of Westmoreland; one daughter, Mrs. Johnson, with whom Mr. and Mrs. Brockett had lived for several months; fifteen grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren and other distant relatives. Funeral services were held at the Lafayette Baptist church at eleven o'clock Saturday morning with Elders N. C. Fuqua and F. W. Lambert in charge. She was a member of the Lafayette Baptist church. Mrs. Brockett was the daughter of Dick and Melina Rush Benedict and was born and reared near Fountain Run, Ky. She and Mr. Brockett were married on Sept. 15, 1881. She was the last surviving member of the family of one son and four daughters of her parents.
