The death of Aunt Bettie Baker, colored, the oldest person in Sumner County occurred Saturday at her home at Peach Valley. Aunt Bettie was 110 years old. Just ninety eight years ago, together with her parents and a number of brothers and sisters, she was purchased by Isaac Franklin of this county from John Washington, adopted son of General George Washington in Virginia, and brought here. Several years later she married and reared a family of nine children. Aunt Bettie was industrious and thrifty and at all times enjoyed the confidence and good will of the white folks. Her declining years were spent in comfort at her home at Peach Valley. The burial occurred Tuesday afternoon.
