These marriage records have been transcribed from microfilm copies of the original Sumner County, Tennessee hardcopy marriage book; Vol: Jun 1865 - Jan 1886. The original marriage books give the name of the bride and groom, the date the license was issued, the person who solemnized the ceremony, and the date the marriage took place. In some cases the actual date of the marriage was not recorded for what ever reason. If the actual date of the marriage was not returned and recorded, the date the marriage license was issued has been substituted. When two different months/years were written for a marriage, they were typed as on the microfilm. The names contained in these records were transcribed, by the transcriber, as they appeared on the microfilm copies. Corrections were not made on names that were obviously misspelled. I would like to give credit to Bill Kemp, our Sumner County Court Clerk, for making copy printouts available to me of the 1870 - 1880 marriages. The microfilm of the hardcopy book was tightly bound and half the names were cut off. I relied on our Clerk's printouts to fill some of those names in.
