    History of the Province:
    Created on 1 January 1999, this province was comprised of the former provinces of Koszalin and Szczecin and parts of the former provinces of Gorzow, Pila, and Slupsk.  Prior to World War II, this part of Poland belonged to Germany and was part of Pomerania.  Research in this area can be difficult, since the names of towns were converted from their former German to their present Polish equivalent.
