Turner Sheriff

Alex Story

Born the scion of a family that for years has been in public service, and as the son of a man who made himself both popular and successful as an arm of the law in Worth County, Sheriff Alexander Story, who only recently took office in Turner, is more than qualified to well dispose of his duties.

Sheriff Story, known throughout this section as "Alex", was born in this county in 1892. He received his education in the elementary and high schools of Ashburn. For a number of years after finishing school he farmed, but the instinct of public service inherited from predecessors, commenced to manifest itself early in his life. For a lengthy period Sheriff Story served as a member of the Ashburn police force. Later he was made a deputy sheriff.

As years flew on he assumed many of the duties of the office. He became well informed of all details of the position. Throughout the county he became known as a man, fearless, honest and square.

After serving fourteen years as deputy Mr. Story decided to run for the office of sheriff. During the recent balloting he was overwhelmingly approved by the residents of this community. Taking his oath of office on January 1, 1929, the new sheriff seriously assumed all the multifarious duties of his position.

Though he gives the majority of his time to his position as sheriff, Mr. Story also is a farmer of some note. He owns 200 acres of fertile soil in Turner county and operated it on the share basis, the chief crops cultivated being cotton, corn and peanuts. The sheriff's father, H. S. Story, also is a farmer of some distinction.

Sheriff Story is an ardent booster of Ashburn and Turner county and feels that the future years will see a great change toward progress in the section. He is an active civic worker and stands staunchly behind all moves that will spell progress and success for this community.
