MacPhee- At Hopefield, PEI on March 25, 1930, Mary Smith, widow of the late Mr. Angus MacPhee, aged 85 years.

There passed away at Hopefield, P.E. Island, on Tuesday, March 25th, 1930.

Mrs. Mary MacPhee, widow of the late Angus MacPhee.


Mrs. MacPhee was born at Little Sands, March 14, 1845, the daughter of the late Alexander Smith. In early life she married Mr. Macphee and together they began to make for themselves a home in Hopefield, which at that time was little more than a forest. They made for themselves and family a comfortable home, and eleven years ago, Mr. MacPhee was called away.


She was a most true and worthy helpmate to her husband, giving her help and encouragement to every good cause. In her home she was most kind and motherly and stranger and friend were alike made welcome. From her youth she was a member of the Little Sands Presbyterian, now the United Church.


She leaves to mourn five daughters and two sons: Mrs. S. G. Varnam, Lynn, Mass., Mrs. W.J. Hamilton, Lynn,Mass., Mrs. James MacLaughlin, Alliston, Mass., Mrs. D. M. Blue, Pictou, N.S., Mrs. J.D. MacLean. Little Sands, Alexander M. MacPhee, Vancouver, B.C., and Murdock A. MacPhee, Hopefield, PEI. One brother, Mr. A. D. Smith, Hopefield and one sister, Mrs. Sarah Fraser, Hopefield are also left to mourn.


The funeral was held on Thursday and was largely attended. Rev. T.R. Goudge conducted the service at the house and grave. She was laid to rest beside her husband in the Little Sands Cemetery.
