Catherine MacNeill [nee Smith]

Catherine MacNeill [nee Smith]

Mrs. A.B. MacNeill

"There passed away to her eternal rest at Little Sands on Sunday morning Dec. 23rd, Catherine Smith, wife of Archibald B. MacNeill. She was born at Little Sands April 5, 1844, and was the last surviving member of the family of the late Malcolm Smith. Though she had attained the age of 84 years she was able to attend to her household duties up to Dec ?, when sitting at the supper table she took a weak turn, fell from her chair to the floor sustaining a broken hip. All that medical skill and kind nursing could do was done but to no avail, as she passed away on the above date. She loved her house and all that pertained to it, being of a quiet and unassuming character she enjoyed a very large circle of friends.

She leaves to mourn and aged husband and one son, Malcolm A. , who resides with his parents.

Her funeral was held on Christmas day, and after a brief service at the home the body was conveyed to the United Church of which she was a member, and the services conducted by her pastor, Rev. R. Smart. A very large gathering was present to show their respect to her memory. She was laid to rest in the Little Sands Cemetery. Following were the pallbearers: Messrs. Norman C. Stewart, John J. Stewart, Archibald Blue, John C. Gillis, J.D. MacLennan and D.C. Munn."
