ABRAHAM PEAVY Revolutionary War Pension submitted by Jeffery Pevy Lydia Peavy Widow of Abraham Peavy Priv.Rev.War Act: March 3rd / 43 Index: Vol. M, page 121 State of Alabama Butler County Nara microfilm series, M804, Roll#1899 Rev. Widow, & C File No. 10.880 On this day 13th of August 1832 personally appeared in open court before James?? Judge of said court now setting Abram Peavy a resident of said county aged 67 years when being first duly sworn according to law with on his oath said the following declaration in order to obtain the benefit of the act of congress passed June 7 1832 Of the United States That he entered the service under the following named officers and as ?.. He was born on the 8th day of May in the year 1765 in Orange county North Carolina. There is where volunteered in the ?..year?..or about that time under Captain Ned Guinn and Lieutenant William Guin. Major Gladson, Col. O?neal and general John Butler. He was accepted by the Captain aforesaid in the place or as a substitute for his father and served for more than two years and when he was not in active service he was kept as a guard at the public store house near Col. O'neals in the said county. He cannot recollect the exact time he was in service. His first march was down to Cox?s mill in Chatham county No Car in ?.. of Col. Fannin? And his party. Col. O?neal commenced that march gone several weeks and returned to Orange county. He was in a number of skirmishes of slight character which he thinks it would be ??.. to relate and he was discharged sometime after Wallace was taken not until the Tories were all ?. Ceased by Captain Guinn at the said county. He has no written evidence of his service or discharge. He is known in his neighborhood to Nathan Cook, James Miller and a number of persons and Mr. John Seales is personally acquainted with much of my service. He hereby relinquishes any claim to any pension or annuity except the present and declares that his name is not on the pension roll of any other states. Sworn to and subscribed on the day and year written Abram Peavy (his mark) I John Seales being duly sworn in open court do hereby certify that I knew the said Abram Peavy while in service was with him a part of the time that I knew him in the service for most of the time he states and know his officers- being different times together, Sworn to and subscribed the and date above written. Signed John Seale We James Miller, a clergy, and Nathan Cook, residing in said county, hereby certify that we are well acquainted with Abram Peavy who was sworn to and subscribed the above declaration, that we discern him to be sixty seven years old that he is reputed and ?? in the neighborhood where he resides to have been a soldier in the revolution and that we concur in that belief. Sworn to and subscribed in the day and year above stated. James Miler Nathan Cook State of Alabama County of Butler Be it known before me A W Mckillan Justice of the peace within and for the county and state of Alabama aforesaid, personally appeared Thomas Peavy and made oath in due form of law that he is a son and the administrator of Abraham Peavy deceased. Who was a pensioner of the United States at the rate of eighty dollars per annua? and to whom a cetificate of pension was issued which was lost or destroyed. He said on the 15th day of Aug. 1837 and after the death of Abraham Peavy. His widow Lydia Peavy was a pensioner of the United States at the rate of 20 dollars her annum. And to whom a certificate of pension was issued which is also lost or destroyed. She died on the 13th day of Oct. 1845 and left eight children only whose names are written. Nancy Hutchinson Vicy Arnold Eli Peavy Daniel Peavy Helvy Peavy Mchail Peavy Hyram Peavy and Thomas Peavy who is the administrator upon the estate of Abraham Peavy and his widow deceased. He makes the declaration for the purpose of obtaining the means of pension due his father at his death. And were to have ?? of pension due his deceased mother according to the act of congress July 9th 1838. To 80 dollars per annum. Thomas Peavy (signed ) mark Sworn to and subscribed before me this 27th day of July 1854 A Mckillan Justice of the peace State of Alabama County of Butler On the 27th day of 1854 personally appeared Nancy Hutchinson and Vicy Waller and made oath in due form of the law that they were personally acquainted with Abraham Peavy and Lydia Peavy his widow and that he was a pensioner of the United States at the rate of eighty dollars per annum and she at the rate of 20 dollars per annum both of whom are the identical persons represented in the declaration set forth by Thomas Peavy who is duly appointed the administrator upon the estate. He died on the 15th day of August 1837 and she on the 13th October 1845. They left eight children only now living whos names are here written Nancy Hutchinson Vicy Arnold Eli Peavy Daniel Peavy Helvy Peavy Mchail Peavy Hyram Peavy and Thomas Peavy the administrator upon the estate of said Abraham and Lydia his wife deceased Signed Nancy Hutchinson (mark) Signed Vicy Waller (mark) Sworn and subscribed before me the day and year above written AW Mckellan Justice of the peace DIAL PAVEY, SR.
