Mr. & Mrs. B. W. Blackburn Mark Seventy Years of Married Life

Seventy years of happy married life were recently marked by Mr. and Mrs. Ben W. Blackburn and this ia a record equalled by only a few couples.

Their marriage refutes all arguments against early marriages since they were wed at the ages of 16 and 18 and have reared a large family of 11 children, 24 grandchildren, and 30 great grandchildren.

Mr. and Mrs. Blackburn were married on September 19, 1895. They are both life long residents of Screven County and faithful members of Double Heads Baptist Church. Mr. Blackburn was a successful farmer in his community prior to his retirement.

The couple held an annual celebration on each anniversary until recent years when their health has not permitted an assembling of the family group. Mrs. Blackburn is now in the Screven County hospital where she has been a patient for several weeks. Prior to 1960, when the last observance was held, it was customary for members of the family to attend services at Double Heads Church and then have dinner at the Blackburns.

It is interesting to note that the Blackburn's oldest grandchild, Mary Louise Blackburn, and her husband, Carl Jenkins, of Savannah, have the same wedding anniversary as their grandparents and have been married for 20 years...
