Georgia House of Representatives - 1995/1996 Sessions HR 318 - Georgia Peach Festival; invite representative to House


A RESOLUTION

Commending the Georgia Peach Festival and inviting a representative of the festival to appear before the House of Representatives; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the peach is a nationally recognized symbol for the State of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, the Georgia Peach Festival originated in Peach County, Georgia, in 1987, under the inspiration and guidance of MR. HAROLD PEAVY, who conceived the festival to promote Peach County, Georgia, and the peach industry; and

WHEREAS, this annual festival celebrating Peach County's status as one of the largest producers of peaches in the state, with an annual yield of more than 700,000 bushels from over 3,500 peach trees, will be held June 2 through June 10, 1995, and all Georgians are invited to visit Peach County and participate in the festivities; and

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia ranks third in the nation in the production of peaches and the Georgia peach industry is a significant factor in the economic growth and prosperity of our state.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and commend the Georgia Peach Festival in celebrating the importance of this world renowned agricultural product of Georgia and for celebrating February 28, 1995, as Peach Festival Day at the State Capitol and invite a representative of the Georgia Peach Festival to appear before this body at a date and time to be designated by the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Board of Directors of the Georgia Peach Festival.
