Birth: 22 May 1892 - Death: 19 Dec 1977 CHILDREN: 1. John R. PEAVEY 2. Laura Sue PEAVEY John R. Peavey was born in Massachusetts and spent most of his life in Texas. He became Deputy Sheriff of Cameron County, Texas in 1915. He later was appointed chief of the eight scouts the U.S. Army maintained at the time along the Texas-Mexico Border. He then joined the Border Patrol as Assistant Chief Scout in the Brownsville to Roma district. Beginning in 1938 he became a Texas Ranger for three years. Thus he spent 47 years in the field of law enforcement. John became an appraiser of real estate and cattle with the First National Bank in McAllen. He retired after working there for 19 years. He is the author of a book, Echoes from the Rio Grande. This book is written in detail of his activities in law enforcement along the border. Because of his many years of police activity, he has the unique status of being recognized in any city where he may go "south of the Tex-Mex Railroad from Laredo to Corpus Christi".
