OREGON OBITUARIES

PEAVEY

PEAVEY, RICHARD F. "Dicky"

COOS BAY, OR

A celebration of life will be held for Richard F. Dicky Peavey, 68, of Coos Bay, at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 24, at Fishermans Grotto in Charleston. The nicest man in Coos County, certainly his family and friend think so.

Dicky was born April 20, 1941, in Greensport Long Island, N.Y., to Alfred and Frances Peavey. He died April 17, 2010, in Coos Bay.

He lived most of his childhood on Long Island before his family relocated to Coos Bay in the late 1960s. In the 1970s, Dicky moved to Hawaii for quite a few years and returned to Coos Bay in the 1980s. With his tan skin, Congo playing skills and his easy way of meeting new people, he fit in with the locals. He exercised his passion for cooking while in Hawaii and it would be his livelihood as he landed a job sailing with Sause Bros as a tugboat chef. This job was a great combination with his love for the sea and cooking, until disabilities forced him to retire.

Dicky was a very spiritual person and loved his family more than anything. His family and friends still feel that way about him. In personal interactions he always encouraged others to look at the bright side and smile throughout. The simplest things in live made him happy; smooth jazz, quiet times at the beach, watching a good football game and a meaningful conversation with just about anybody. He was very generous and always ready to help his sister and brothers as well as others.

After retiring, he made several trips back to Mesa, Ariz., to visit with his sister and family. Further travels took him to Germany to explore Europe with his daughter. His good nature always took precedence over any pain he endured. His smile, laughter and caring heart will be missed by all who had the pleasure and blessing of knowing him.

Dicky is survived by his daughter, Brook Ward Doggett and husband, Chris of Germany; brother, Al Duke Peavey and wife, Elaine of Boise, Idaho; brother, Robert Benny Peavey of Coos Bay; sister, Susan Peavey Fair and husband, Ken Fair of Mesa; grandchildren, Alyx and Mayzie Doggett of Germany; niece, Debbie Peavey and partner, Jim Harrison of Port Orford; niece, Autumn Peavey of Denver, Colo.; nephew, Alfred JuJu Peavey III of Gresham; nephew, Joshua Peavey and wife, Alicia of Sitka, Alaska; and nephew, Austin Peavey Fair of Mesa.

PEAVY

PEAVY, LYLAH HARRIET"

SEATTLE, OREGON

Lylah Harriet (Corneliuson) Peavy The Memory Keeper born Mar 29, 1923, North Branch, MN. As she was in life, she passed peacefully and without drama on Jul 27, 2010. She grew up in Kalispell, Montana and graduated from Flathead High School, but became a Northwest girl when she moved to Seattle to work at Boeing during WWII. There she met Jack, they were married at Denny Park Lutheran Church, where she is still a member, and started a life together that spanned 56 years until Jacks death.

Jack and Lylah moved to Salem, Oregon where they started their family. Sundra Jo born in 1946 and Kristi Anne born in 1948. Lylah worked at the Health Department in Salem for many years as well as at home keeping us all clean, fed and nurtured. In 1956 the family moved back to Seattle where she went to work at Seattle General Hospital. She was also active in Girl Scouts and PTA and of course making sure we all had the love and generosity she was famous for. Lylah retired from Pacific NW Bell in 1987. In retirement, Lylah and Jack enjoyed working in their yard, bowling, taking road trips and spoiling their grandchildren. Family was everything to Lylah.

It was always very important to Lylah to keep the memories of the old times and keep up with the events of the new times. She would document everyday on her calendar and it was always a challenge to find a calendar with big enough squares for her to use. Everyone in the family knew they could just pick up a phone and call her and she would be able to tell them what was going on. She could remember things that most of us had forgotten. Most of the information was kept in her head, so you see, we have lost a very important part of our family.

If you met Lylah, you were a friend for life. She was very unique in her open acceptance of everyone and genuine caring. She spent her last 5 years at Scriber Gardens Retirement Home, making friends, playing Bingo and cards, going on the weekly outings and running their store. Lylah was also well known for her poems, costumes and sense of humor. She will be missed by all her friends there as well as her lifetime pals from Kalispell, Salem and Seattle.

Lylah is survived by her two daughters, Sunny McNett (Dan) and Kristi Adams (Dave), her grandchildren, Troy Gleeson, Brent Gleeson, Heidi Kelly(Brock), Tricia Adams (Andrew Knee), Carrie Goetz (Mike) and great grandchildren, Katie Gleeson, Emma Kelly, Desivie Daniels, Alivia and Jacob Goetz, many nieces and nephews and three sister in laws. Services will be held at Evergreen Washelli Chapel, 11111 Aurora Ave. N., Seattle on August 7 at 3:00 pm, reception following. Donations in Lylahs name may be made to ALS Division of MDA 701 Dexter Ave. N Seattle, WA 98109 in memory of Jack W. Peavy.

MISCELLANEOUS OREGON OBITUARIES

SIROIS, SHIRLEY ARLENE
1942 2007
Descendant of Harry Marcellus Peavey

EUGENE, OR

On August 20, 2007, Shirley Kingdon Sirois (affectionately known as a stubborn old goat) surrendered to an illness she had fought for over 20 years. Shirley had many interests and hobbies including quilting, woodcarving, birding, photography, and gardening. At some time or another you may have spotted her working diligently in her garden, or out and about in the community as an advocate for individuals with developmental disabilities and mental health challenges. Most recently, as a high-spirited resident of South Hills Rehabilitation Center, Shirley was a teacher and an inspiration to many.

Shirley valued the many wonderful memories and the hard life lessons she shared with each of you. Her passing was peaceful. And yes, Shirley, it mattered that you were.

She was the daughter of Lewis A. Kingdon and Sadie E. Peavey.

She is survived by her brother, Richard Kingdon and her sister Bernice Kingdon, both of Augusta, Maine; her daughters Sharon Sirois of Portland, OR; Brenda Sirois of Eugene, OR; her sons Jerome Sirois Jr., of E. Madison Maine, Richard Sirois of Norridgewock, ME, and Roger Sirois of Eugene, OR. Shirley was also a proud grandparent of Gregory, Tristin, Hudson and Elyza.
