ARTHUR PEAVEY HOMESTEAD

Nez Perce, Idaho

The Peavey Homestead in Nez Perce Idaho was homesteaded by both Arthur L Peavey and his sister Alice Frances Peavey who are pictured here. They are the brother and sister of Everett Peavey (children of Charles Hiram Peavey).

There is a six mile canyon behind the ranch where the settlers all hid in fear of an Indian attack which never came.

Later they leased out the homestead and Arthur became a prominent real estate owner. He owned a second hand furniture store in Lewiston, Idaho and had stock in oil well adventures.

Arthur's wife Gertie died at a young age and Alice's fiance was killed in a train accident. The never remarried. They left for the gold rush in California but Arthur thought it was to rough there for Alice so they traveled up the coastline until they settled in Nez Perce, Idaho.

Hallie Peavey, a nephew bought the homestead from sole survivor Alice Peavey.
