REVOLUTIONARY WAR RECORDS



DANIEL PEAVEY - Pvt. Revolutionary War, of Alton, Belknap County, NH, formerly of Rochester, NH.   enlisted 2 July 1776; was married to Mrs. Molly (Mary) Durgin, 29 March 1786 by Jabes Dame, JP of Strafford County, NH (Daniel's second wife.) Their children, Shadrack Peavey (died as a soldier), 2nd child, a daughter, Salomy (sic); 3rd child Dorothy, dob 20 Jun, 1790, who married Moses Young; and Daniel Peavey Jr.
The father, Daniel, is believed to have died in July 1836. (NARA M804, Roll# 1899)

1.PETER PEVEY - (1762-1836) was placed on the pension roll of Hillsboro County, NH 1818, for service as private, Massachusetts Continental line. He was born in Andover, Mass.; died in Greenfield, N.H. He married Lucy Cummings, ca. 1787. (Research note: Not found in NARA M804, Roll# 1899 but listed in DAR Lineage books, year 1900 book #34-#35,and 1919, #49-50. Marsha McWilliams.)

2. PETER PEVEY - Born 1762 in Andover MA, died 1836 in Greenfield, NH. Served as Pvt. in 15th MA Regt. Continental line, card #5304,roll #40, (Index to Revwar Service Records.) Placed on pension roll of Hillsboro Co., NH in 1818. In 1787 Peter m Lucy Cummings b 1767, d 1845. Some descendants include Abiel Pevey, James A. Pevey, Franklin Pevey, Alice Louise Pevey, Susan Pevey, Jacob Pevey, Ms Anna Coburn Pevey and Ms Julia Tyler Pevey. (DAR Lineage Book Vol 34, pg 134, Vol 50, pg 216 and Vol 82, pg 375 . M. WINTHROP PEAVEY/PEAVY - enlisted Feb 1781 at Dover, NH for 3 years in the Co. commanded by Capt. Fogg, and Regmt. Col. George Reed, 2nd Regmt. NH line. Took final and honorable discharge at West Point June 1783. "My occupation is that of farmer; but having been sick for 16 years, I'am unable to labor but little, my family residing with me consists of five persons, with myself, my wife Rachel, aged 35 years, my son William aged 12 years, my daughter Betsy, aged 7 years, and son Joseph aged 21 months."       Dated 24 May 1820. (Research note: Rachel remarried and became "Rachel Decker Frederick." Pension papers indicate Winthrop disappeared, and subsequent clues point to the possibility that he may have been murdered by a landlord. (NARA M804, Roll# 1899)

JOHN PEAVEY - enlisted in Newington, NH, in June, 1775. Served as a pvt. under Capt's. Shackford, Salter, and Parsons. Continued in service until early in Sept, 1777. He enlisted (2nd)Sept 17, 1777, served 3 months as Cpl. in Capt. Rawlings Co., Col. Drake's NH regiment, and was present at the surrender of Burgoyne. The dob/pob of John Peavey were not given, nor were the names of his parents. He was allowed pension on his application executed Sept 17, 1832, at which time he was aged 76 years and living in Strafford, NH where he had lived since the revolution. The papers on file in this claim contain no reference to the family of the soldier, John Peavey. (NARA M804, Roll# 1899)
