Mr. John R. Peavey
800 B.C. Ave.
McAllen, Texas

Dear Mr. Peavey:

From Arthur Peavey of West Harwich, Mass., your nephew, I learned of you.

For a number of years, I have been working on a genealogy of the Peavey family and I wonder if you might be able to add to it. My great grandfather was William C. Peavey, 1800 1856, married to Jemima Page, 1806 1884. She was from Gilmanton, N. H., he from Liberty, Me. They are both buried in So. Montville, Me.,Cemetery. My great-great grandfather was John Peavey, 1775 1861, who married Jane__________, 1725 -1854. They too are buried in So. Montville. My grandfather was George William Peavey, 1849 (Liberty, Me.)- 1935 buried in Brooks, married Sarah Amelia Slocomb, 1851 (St. Francis , New Brunswick, Can.) 1903, buried in Fort Fairfield, Me. I dont have the names of other children of John or William C.

I am also curious about the connection of Joseph Peavey, inventor of the peavey logging tool. Our line and George Peavey of Patten, Me. And Frank Peavey who was born in Eastport and moved West, founding the Peavey Co, in Minneapolis, all claim relationship.

I also understand from Arthur that you published a book, Echoes of the Rio Grande and if it is still available, I should like to know where I could purchase a copy.

Any help you can give me in my research will be greatly appreciated. Now that we are retired, we have more time to devote to study of our family lines
Sincerely,

Lloyd W. Peavey
P. S. There is a Thomas H. Peavey, listed as a gunsmith in Liberty, Me., born in 1820. I suspect that he might be a brother of my great-grandfather, William C.; would you have any information on him?

2. (Letter to John Randall Peavey from Lloyd W. Peavey)

Dear John,

Thank you for your very nice letter. We would like to place an order for a copy of your book and would like to know the price (including postage) so we can send you a check.

We are looking forward to receiving your information on the Peavey tribe. From our last summers visit with George Peavey of Patten, Me., and our letters from Arthur, his nephew, of W. Harwich, Mass., we assume that your grandfather was either Randall or Paul Randall Peavey and that in turn was the son of Paul Peavey and Catherine Oakes. Is this correct?

Starting with the year 1806, we have found four family lines: Paul Peavey (your line), born 1806; Frank Peavey, whose father was Albert D. , born about the same time; James D. Peavey of Tully, N. Y., whose great great grandfather (name unknown) was born in 1809 and my line William C. Peavey, born 1806 (my great, xxxxxxxx grandfather )-. I was born 1905. my great, great grandfather was John, b. 1775 and died 1851buried in So. Montville, Me. So far, I havent been able to tie in all the lines unless I go back to Edward, the first Peavey recorded in America in Portsmouth, N.H. around 1670.

Were looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely,

Lloyd

Dear Mr. Peavey,

Last summer we visited with George Peavey of Patten, Me.,seeking information about the Peavey family. He referred us to his nephew, Arthur W. of Harwich, Mass. From Arthur, we learned of John P. Peavey of McAllen, Texas and from him, your brother, we received your address.

We have been interested in genealogies for many years, but particularly since 1971 when we retired from teaching and had more time to devote to it. We have some information on the Peavey line of Patten, the line around Swanville, the Frank Peavey line of Eastport and my own line located around Liberty, So. Montville and Brooks. There was a Joseph Peavey from Stillwater who invented a number of tools, including the peavey logging tool, but except for family legends, I have not been able to tie him into these lines, though all claim relationship.

My great, great grandfather was John Peavey, born 1775 and buried in So. Montville cemetery. His son, William C. Peavey born in Liberty , Me., in 1806, married Jamima Page and both are buried in the same cemetery. Their son, George William Peavey, my grandfather, married Sarah Amelia Slocomb of New Brunswick, Canada, at Presque Isle, Me. My father , William Edgar Peavey was born 1885 in So. Montville. This is a brief outline of my family.

We are wondering if in your study (your brother John says you have studied the family extensively ) you might provide us with information to further complete our Peavey genealogy. We still do not know the brothers and sisters of my great grandfather , William C. , nor the maiden name of Jane, the wife of John Peavey. We also do not know the connection with the various Peavey lines. We did learn from information Arthur sent us , that the first Peavey in America was Edward , of Ports-mouth, N. H. , and that it is believed that all of the Peaveys inthis country originated from him.

Any information you might share with us will be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Lloyd W. Peavey

P. S. We have just ordered a copy of your brothers book and are anxiously awaiting its arrival.
