John was most likely the eldest son of his father as he was named the executor of his father's will. If his mother remarried he would have the entrie estate, paying (?)5 each to the other children.
John received the following bequest in his grandfather Thomas Walford's will: "...'to John Peverly a point of marsh about half an acre, lying before his father's door'..."

John's will states he was a 'yeoman'. In 1672, the town records state he was allowed 4 shilllings for a day's work on the highways using his oxen. He was allotted 67 acres of common land in 1673/74.

John Peverly was the only Peverly listed on the Portsmouth Tax List in 1688. Portsmouth Court records in 1688 (NHGR vol. 8,pg 162), gates in the highway between houses of J Peverley & Richd Sloper were to be pulled down. According to the New Hampshire Genealogical Record, Vol. 2, p.101, he was a Selectman in 1695/96.

The New Hampshire State Papers, vol.9, pgs 41-45 lists John and his sons John and Nathaniel as the original grantees of Barrington.

The children listed above were mentioned in John's will. They may have been others who died before him. His will was dated 5 Sept 1730 and according to the New Hampshire State Papers, vol.32, pg 381, the will was proven on 25 Nov 1731. His will was made "labouring under the infirmitys of age."

Brewster's Rambles about Portsmouth, vol. 1, pg. 67, states that his wife had a seat in the meeting house in 1693 but there has been no record of her name found.
