William Scott Peavey was a Merchant and Lumberman. Concerning William Murphy who was living with The William S. Peavey Family in 1860: I have searched for William and could not find him anywhere except in the 1860 census living at age 14 with the William Scott Peavey family. He was listed after their youngest child was listed who was 7 years of age. This would indicate to me that he is not their son. It is possible that this William Murphy Peavey is the son of William Scott's brother, John Johnson Peavey. John died in 1846 and this William Murphy was born in 1846. Somehow John's wife and daughters missed the 1850 census. Perhaps they were moving to be near family before the census was taken and arrived in their new place after the census was taken there. The 1860 census states that he was 14 & was born in 1846; his sister Emma was living with her Aunt Phebe Ann Peavey Mowe & family; his sister America was living with her Aunt Hannah Peavey Odell & family. It is possible that William was their brother and was living with his Uncle William Scott Peavey & family. Since Emma was living with her Aunt Phebe Ann Peavey Mowe and America was living with her Aunt Hannah Peavey Odell and family, It would make sense that this William Murphey Peavey could be their brother and living with their Uncle William Scott Peavey and Family who took him in and finished raising him. The information concering William is only supposition on my part and there are really no facts to prove it either way. This need more research to find the facts. (Notes: by Marjorie Gisi) |
