(This is a possible son. There is no proof to support or not support Abraham as Daniel, Sr.'s son.
The possibility exists by using the dates and place of birth which seem to fit.
Genealogist Jim Huffman seems to feel he fits here.
Genealogist & site owner Barbara DeMarco feels this is just a guess with no proof.
Will leave it here until we have some proof one way or the other.)

Daniel and his wife Mary and family lived in Rochester, Strafford County, New Hampshire from 1786 until between 1793 & 1796. They moved to Farmington in Strafford County sometime before the birth of their son Isaiah in 1796. They remained her for two to four years and then moved to Alton, Belknap County, New Hampshire before the birth of their daughter Alice on 8 Oct 1800.

Some of the information for Daniel Peavey and his wife Mary Durgin was obtained from "Abstracts of Revolutionary War Pension Files". An affidavit was submitted by Mary Durgin March 4, 1838 requesting Daniel's pension after his death, July 16, 1836. Daniel Sr. had been receiving a pension of $33.33 per year beginning March 4, 1831 and had been placed on the pension rolls May 1, 1833. He is listed as 85 years old on the 1835 NH Pension Roll. In her affidavit Mary gave her age as 73 (1865) and Daniel's age as 85 (1853) as well as their marriage date of April 20,1785. Further records from a certificate written by Jabez Dame who was the officiating minister states that the actual date was March 29, 1786.The banns were posted September 3, 1785 and Mary was listed as Mrs. Mary Durgin. This would mean she was previously married to a Durgin and we are unsure of her maiden name at this point. This fits very well with our dates for Daniel and Mary. In another pension record in 1840 Mary is receiving Daniel's pension and is living with her son Enoch (1806) inAlton. This confirms the connection between Daniel Sr. and Enoch. Daniel moved from Rochester to Farmington and then to Alton. He received land from his father Thomas in 1771 in Rochester and was on the tax rolls in 1774 and 1790-1795. This again would fit well with a birth date of 1753. He moved to Farmington prior to 1799 where he shows up on the Farmington tax list. He is in Rochester for the 1790 Census, in Farmington for the1800 Census and finally in Alton for the 1810 Census. Apparently his son Daniel stays in Farmington while the rest of the family moves to Alton.

In the same pension record containing the affidavit that was submitted by Mary, March 4, 1838, Daniel of Farmington verifies the information given by Mary and states that he is 64 years old. This would put his birth date as 1775 when Mary Durgin was only 10 years old. The 1830 Census for Farmington confirms the birth date for Daniel between 1770-1780. The only logical solution is that Mary Durgin was not his mother and Daniel Sr. was previously married when Daniel was born. This was verified by Daniel who stated that he remembered the wedding of his father to his second wife Mary Durgin about fifty years previous even though as a young child he was not at the ceremony itself. Daniel also stated that Mary and Daniel Sr. had numerous children the oldest of which was Shadrach.Since Shadrach was the oldest child from the second marriage his birthdate would be about 1786. This is confirmed by the 1810 Census for New Durham which lists Shadrach as between 1785-1794. We can't be sure this is the same Shadrach but the dates fit and the name fits. Daniel also stated that Shadrach had died while serving in the Militia many years before. A reasonable guess would be sometime after the 1810 Census and before the 1820 Census. Daniel also mentioned the 2nd oldest child, a female who was deceased. The third child was Dorothy (of Alton) who was born by her own affidavit June 20, 1790 and that she was married to Moses Young. She also confirmed the death of Shadrach who was married at the time of his death. Dorothy identified the second child as Salomy who had died many years previously. Daniel married Hannah Young in Farmington in1805 and had one son and one daughter in the 1810 Census for Farmington. We've put Daniel with an unknown mother for the time being in order to match the dates and affidavits we have so far. From the Census reports it appears that there was another son (Oliver) and another daughter (Sarah)from Daniel Senior's first marriage. Thomas Sr. (1772) was likely born to this first marriage and was on his own by 1790 since he had Thomas by1792. Again from the Census records it would seem that Daniel Sr. had at least 4 children from his first marriage and 4 sons and 4 daughters from his marriage to Mary Durgin. This fits fairly closely with Leroy's notes. The missing son appears to have been born about 1787 and died before 1800and the missing daughter was born about 1788 and died before 1800.Another daughter was born after Dorothy about 1797.

Mary was granted Daniels' pension November 22, 1838 and received a payment of $87.84 including the arrears through September of 1838 and received semi-annual payments from then on until the time of her death. After the Land Bounty Act of 1856 she proceeded to apply for 160 acres of land. There is a lot of discussion regarding the exact length of Daniel's service and the records that were available to prove that service because of the requirement that a soldier was to have served at least six months active duty in order to be eligible for the bounty. Daniel's first 5 months of service was in question and so additional documentation was required. The warrant for the property was finally issued but she had died two days before the effective date on the warrant. The Honorable Nathan Eastman cancelled and returned the document requesting information as to the legal standing of the children in regards to claiming the property. There was no other information in the file to indicate that they filed such a claim.

Since we have already connected Daniel Sr. to Thomas Peavey and Mary Stevens we have a fairly good continuous line that can be added to as new information becomes available. Much of our research has been helped by Census Records, Pension and Service Records, Land Records, Town and Church Records, as well as miscellaneous Family Records. Many times a comparison between all these records can prove the family connections that cannot be verified by a single record. Not surprisingly the location of family groups may be the most helpful tool to begin the search for these connections. Most of Daniel's family was located in the Alton area making it easier to put together the puzzle pieces based on information from that area. Knowing the history of the area is a must in order to keep information and people in the proper order. Daniel was baptized September 2, 1753 in Rochester. We have used this as a birth date until further information is uncovered. (Mark Kulow)
