WORLD WAR II 1941-1945

The world was at war and on Dec 6, 1941 our president Franklin D. Roosevelt made a final appeal to the Emperor of Japan for peace. There was no reply to the appeal. Then on Dec 7, 1941 at 7:53 a.m. the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor sounding the battle cry "Tora! Tora! Tora!" The Americans were taken completely by surprise. The attack lasted until 9:45 am. The Battleship USS Arizona being the main point of attack with many other ships and cruisers being damaged or sunk. Casualty were 2,335 servicemen and 68 civilians killed and 1,178 wounded.

On Monday Dec 8, 1941 the United States and Britain declared war on Japan with President Roosevelt calling Dec 7, "a day which will live in infamy"

Before this "War to end all Wars" was over it had spread death and devastation throughout most of the world to an extent never before experienced. The total loss of life and property can only be summarized as astronomical for all participants. Four long years was over in the fall 1945.
