COLONELS COMMANDANT AND COLONELS SECOND COMMANDANT.

Cocked Hats.- Black beaver or silk of the following dimensions :- Left side, 7 inches high ; right side, 6� inches; each corner, 4� inches long ; loop of �-inch lace ; tassels, 1� inch long, exclusive of the head, netted gold purl head; 8 small gold bullions ,with 7 crimson bullions under them; black silk cockade on right side, loop and button over it.

Plume.-White swan feathers drooping outwards, 8 inches long, with red feathers under them, long enough to reach the ends of the white ones ; feathered stem, 3 inches long

Sword.-Gilt half-basket hilt, with device of sword and baton crossed, encircled with laurel leaves, and surmounted by a crown; black fish-skin grip, bound with gilt wire; slightly curved blade, grooved and spear-pointed.

Full Size.-Blade 36 inches long, and one and one eighth inches wide at the shoulder; extreme length, including the hilt, 41 inches; weight, without scabbard, 2 Ibs.

Second Size.-Blade 33 inches long, and 1 inch wide at the shoulder ; extreme length including hilt, 38� inches; weight, without scabbard, 1 Ib. 12 oz. Scabbard brass.

Sword Knot.-Gold and crimson cord, with gold acorn.

Sword Belt.-Russia leather, 1� inch wide, with slings 1 inch wide; two stripes of gold embroidery on belt and slings; gilt hook to hook lip the sword.

Plate.-Gilt rectangular burnished plate, with corps device.

Sash.- Gold and crimson, 2� inches wide ; �-inch stripes of gold and crimson silk alternately; runner of plaited gold and crimson; tassels of gold and crimson fringe, 9 inches long.

Tunic.-Corps pattern, as described below and on next page.

Frock.-Blue cloth, double-breasted; rolling collar, with crown and star, embroidered in gold on each side ; the front and collar edged with �-inch black mohair lace. An Austrian knot of black Russia braid on each sleeve, reaching to 6 inches from the bottom of the cuff; 5 loops of black Russia braid on each side of the breast, fastening with black olivets ; 2 olivets at the waist behind; the skirts lined with black.

Waistcoat.-Scarlet cloth, without collar, edged with gold Russia braid, and fastened with hooks and eyes.

Trowsers (Undress).- Blue cloth, scarlet stripes, 1� inch wide.

Pantaloons, for Mounted Duties.-Blue cloth, scarlet stripes, as in trowsers.

Trowsers (Fulldress).- Corps pattern, as described below and on next page.

Over Boots.-Reaching within 3 inches of the top of the knee in front, and sloped down at the back.

Spurs.-Crane-necked, fastened with straps and buckles.

Forage Cap.-Blue cloth, with gold embroidered peak, and band of 1�-inch lace, gold purl button, and braided figure on crown.

Undress Sword Knot.-Russia leather cord and acorn.

Shell Jacket.-Scarlet cloth, edged all round, including collar, with � inch lace forming barrels at the bottom of the back seam; blue cloth collar and cuffs; badges of rank, embroidered in silver at each end of collar, and a line of gold braid along the bottom, with an eye in the centre ; cuffs round 3 inches deep, with 2 bars of �-inch lace round the top, � inch apart; a gold cord loop, with a gilt stud on each shoulder a row of gilt studs in front on the left side; scarlet silk lining, hooks and eyes in front, and a loop of gold braid at bottom of collar to fasten across the neck.

Great Coat anal Cape.-Blue milled cloth, double breasted, lined with scarlet rattinet ; collar lined with blue velvet; cape of the same cloth as the coat to button on and long enough to cover the knuckles.

Colonels Commandant and Colonels Second Commandant of the Royal Marine Artillery wear their corps uniforms but with the cocked hat and plume described above, and with embossed peak to forage cap.

OTHER OFFICERS.

ROYAL MARINE ARTILLERY.

Tunic.-Blue cloth, single-breasted, edged with scarlet cloth; scarlet cloth collar, rounded in front, edged round top with gold cord, gold � inch - lace inside, gold Russia braid on collar-seam: eight buttons up front, two at back ; skirts rounded in front, closed at back, no slashes ; crow's foot of round gold cord on sleeve, with eye at top, 7 inches high from bottom of cuff, traced with gold Russia braid top and bottom, for Lieutenants.

For Captains, eyed all round crow's foot with Russia braid, with a small loop of same at bottom of trimming.

For Field Officers: Tunic as above; two rows of lace on collar, showing a light of scarlet between; sleeves trimmed with a chevron of 1�-inch gold lace, extending all round the cuff, wheels of gold Russia braid top and bottom ; long crow's foot in centre of cuff, also at top of trimming, the whole being 11� inches deep from bottom of cuff.

Embroidered collar ornaments, as follows, viz.:

1. For Colonel, crown and star.
2. For Lieutenant-Colonel, crown.
3. For Major, star.
4. For Captain, crown and star.
5. For Lieutenants, star.

Shoulder-straps, for all officers, of round gold cord fastening, with small corps button.

White Tunic for the Tropics.-Same as for Infantry Officers.

Patrol Jacket,-Same shape as for Infantry Officers. Mohair 1-inch black braid on edges, and up side seams; 4 pistol square-cord loops and drops on each breast, with caps and olivets. Shoulder-straps of black cord, with a knitted ball. Tree of trimming braid at top of back, pointed cuff, plain traced for Lieutenants ; eyed all round top and bottom for Captains, and trimmed same as tunic sleeve for Field Officer.

Trowsers, Fulldress.- Blue cloth, stripes of gold lace 1� inch wide.

Trowsers, Undress, Winter.-Blue cloth, scarlet cloth stripes 1� inch wide.

Trowsers, Undress, Summer.-Blue tartan, scarlet cloth stripes 1� inch wide.

Trowsers, White, for the Tropics.-Same as for Infantry Officers.

Great Coat and Cape.-Blue cloth double-breasted, cloth strap at back buttoning to stashed flaps, with three large uniform buttons; slit on left side to permit of sword-handle coming through, lined throughout with blue shalloon ; six large corps buttons up front on each breast. Circular cape lined with blue shalloon; four small corps buttons down front. Cape to button on to coat.

Waterproof Cloak.-Black, Inverness shape, with black velvet collar.

Mess Jacket.-Blue cloth, scarlet cloth collar; gold Russia braid all round, and at top of collar and on collar seam ; crow's feet on sleeves of large gold Russia braid, traced inside and out for Lieutenants ; eyes round top and bottom, with loop at bottom for Captains ; round gold shoulder cords, fastening with small corps button ; ten buttons up front two on each cliff, and lined with blue silk ; an eye of Russia braid at the bottom of each back seam. For Field Officers as above, with all inch lace point, 5� inches high from bottom of cuff ; tracing of gold Russia braid, with crow's foot at top, and embroidered collar badges according to rank.

Mess Vest.- Scarlet cloth, French cut, edged with gold Russia braid to side seams, eye in each corner ; crow's foot at each end and centre (top and bottom) of pocket ; a row of gilt studs, with hooks and eyes up front.

Helmet.-(To be worn by Regimental Staff Officers as well as other Officers.)-Of cork covered with blue cloth in four seams, two on each side; peaks, front and back, stiffened and covered with cloth without a seam ; the front peak bound with gilt metal three-sixteenths of all inch wide, the back peak with patent leather one eight inch wide. Above the peaks and going round the helmet a cloth band � inch wide and stitched top and bottom. Back peak to centre of crown 10� inches; front peak to centre of crown 10� inches, side to centre of crown 8 inches. Gilt curb-chain chin strap, the links five eighths inch wide and the strap lined with black velvet. Gilt rose fastenings at the sides ; gilt convex bar � inch wide, down the centre of the back, and to the bottom of the back peak. The bar, in one piece, fastened to the helmet by means of two studs and a flattened prolongation of the bar under the back peak. At the top of the helmet a gilt spike mounted on a cross-piece base.

Dimensions of the spike

• Height of spike from place of insertion in the top rose of the cross-piece base - 2� inches.
• Total height of spike and base - 3� inches.
• Diameter of spike at point of contact with the top rose of base - seven eights of an inch.

The cross-piece base of gilt metal ; a rose at the top into which the spike is screwed ands a smaller rose on

each of the four terminations oft the base. A gilt hook fixed to the back of the base, to which the chin strap is to be : attached when not required to be worn under the chin. The width of the base from the point of the front termination to the point of the rear termination, measured in a straight line underneath, to be 4 and three eights inches, that from side to side 3�-inches. The base attached to the helmet by four screws and nuts. For ventilation, the base to be perforated with four holes, and a gilt collet inserted in the crown of the helmet.

The plate to be a grenade of gilt metal 4 seven eights inches high bright ball 2 and nine sixteenths inches in diameter, the flame (dead) 2 7/8 inches wide. Upon the ball to be mounted a dead gilt laurel wreath and saw pierced garter with regimental motto, " Per Mare, Per Terraria." Above the garter a gilt scroll " Gibraltar," below it a gilt anchor, and in the centre a silver globe 1 inch diameter. Under the saw pierced garter blue enamel.

The bottom of the grenade to come half-way over the cloth band.

Forage Cap (Lieutenant-Colonels Captains, and Lieutenants.)-Blue cloth, without peals, scarlet edging ; gold lace band, 1� inch wide ; top trimmed with goad braid, gold button in centre.

Sword.-half-basket hilt of steel, black fish-skin grip, bound with silver wire ; slightly curved blade, having corps device, and grooved acrd spear-pointed ; 34� inches in length.

Scabbard.-Steel for all officers.

Sword Knot, Fat Fulldress.- Gold, with acorn.

Sword Knot, Undress.-White buff leather, � inch wide with runner and gold acorn.

Sword Belt, Fulldress.-Gold 1-inch lace on scarlet morocco, with silver-mounted gilt front.

Sword Belt, Undress.-White patent leather, 1� inch wide, corps plate.

Pantaloons (Mounted Officers only).-Blue cloth, with stripes, as on the cloth trowsers.

Boots and Spurs (Mounted Officers, when on mounted duties).-Same as described for Colonels Commandant and Colonels Second Commandant ; see above.

Sabretache (Mounted Officers only).-Black patent leather fitted with writing and sketching materials, connected with sword belt by three white patent leather slings, enamelled on both sides; gilt corps device, with motto in centre of same.

Paymasters, Barrack Masters, and Quartermasters.-To wear the same full and undress uniforms as those for other Officers of corresponding ranks, with the exceptions that the cocked hat is to be worn with fulldress, and that Quartermasters are to wear black sword belts. Paymasters and Barrackmasters to wear no feather in cocked hat. Quartermasters to wear a white cock's feather 5 inches long, mushroom shape; the hats to have a loop of corps lace, and crape fringed tassels.

ROYAL MARINE LIGHT INFANTRY.

Tunic, Scarlet Cloak.-Eight buttons up front at equal distances, skirts closed behind, with back slashes edged with white, each having three large uniform buttons. Collar and cuffs of blue cloth, collar rounded in front, and having a row, of five eights inch gold-wire lace at top under white edging. Cuffs pointed, and, for a Lieutenant laced with chevron of gold-wire lace five eights inch wide, 7� inches high, traced outside with gold Russia braid terminating with an Austrian knot, making a total height of 9� inches, showing a light three-sixteenths of an inch wide between lace and braid, traced also inside with gold Russia braid, finishing down cuffs with crow's foot and eye. Collar and front edges edged with white piping, also back skirts and side edges. Captain. to have two chevrons of lace, �-inch light showing between the top chevron coming to a point 8 inches high, traced top and bottom same as Lieutenants, the top tracing with knot extending to a height of 10 inches. Shoulder straps of double gold cord fastening with a small corps button. Majors to have two chevrons of lace, eyed all round the top, terminating with an Austrian knot. Colonels and Lieutenant-Colonels to have the eyeing above and below the two chevrons of lace, collar laced round top with gold-wire lace, gold Russia braid on collar seam and eyes of braid for all Field Officers. Colonels to wear for collar badges, embroidered crowns and stars ; Lieutenant-Colonels crowns ; Majors, stars ; Captains crowns and stars; Lieutenants, crowns.

White Tunics for the Tropics.-Made of white American drill, same shape as the scarlet patrol jacket, with four uniform buttons up front. Shoulder-straps of plain gold cord (removable), fastening with a small uniform button. Gold collar badges for Field Officers only, according to rank.

Blue Patrol Jacket.- Blue beaver, 28 inches long from the bottom of the collar behind, for an Officer 5 feet 9 inches in height, with a proportionate variation for any difference in height ; rounded in front, and edged with inch black mohair braid all round and up the openings at the sides. On each side in front four double drop loops of �-inch fiat plait, with eyes in the centre of each loop, the top loops reaching to the sleeve seams, and the bottom ones 4 inches long; four netted olivets on the right side, to fasten through the loops on the left On each sleeve an Austrian knot of flat plait 7 inches high from the bottom of the cuff. Double flat plait on each back seam, with crow's foot at top and bottom, and two eyes at equal distances. Pockets fitted with flaps in and out. Hooks and eyes in front. Blue patrol jackets may be worn by Officers not belonging to Her Majesty's ships at ordinary morning parades, and on all fatigue duties, such as divisional courts-martial, orderly duty, &c. ; but are not to be worn when Officers are landed from Her Majesty's ships on duty with the men.

Trowsers, Fulldress (for Lieutenant-Colonels Captain., and Lieutenants) -Blue cloth. Gold lace and crimson silk stripe, the lace to be 1 and one eight inch wide, with the silk stripe 1 and one eight inch wide in the centre. To be worn only on state occasions and at balls.

Trowsers, Undress, Winter (for all Officers). -Blue cloth with scarlet welt, � inch wide, down each seam.

Trowsers Undress, Summer (for all Officers).-Blue tartan, with �-inch scarlet welt.

Trowsers Undress, for Tropical Climates (for all Officers).-White American drill.

Great Coat and Cape.-Grey milled cloth, double-breasted, to reach within a foot of the ground. Stand-and-fall collar 4� inches deep, with a fly to cover the band of the cape when buttoned on. Loose round cuffs 6 inches deep. Two pockets at the waist in front, two openings behind at the side seams, with pointed flaps 11 inches long, and a breast-pocket on the left inside. An opening behind 19 inches long with fly. Two rows of buttons down the front, six in each row, the top buttons 6 inches apart, the bottom ones 4 inches; three buttons on each skirt-flap, the centre one to close the pocket; four small buttons at the opening behind, and five flat buttons under the fly at the collar. A cloth back-strap, attached to the top button of the skirt-flap, to confine the coat at the waist ; two hooks and eyes to the collar. Cape (circular) of same cloth as tile coat, to button on and long enough to cover the knuckles, with four small buttons to front and two hooks on collar.

Waterproof Cloak.-Black. Inverness shape, with black velvet collar.

Mess Jacket.-Scarlet cloth blue cloth facings, and scarlet silk linings. Edged ail round with gold Russia braid, studs up front - collar rounded in front, row of braid on collar seam; cuffs pointed, trimmed with a chevron of gold Russia braid, forming an Austrian knot, 8 inches high from bottom of cuff ; underneath, on cuff, a long crow's foot with an eye, for Lieutenants.

Captain's sleeves trimmed with two chevrons of Russia braid, the upper chevron forming an Austrian knot 9 inches high from bottom of cuff.

Major's sleeves trimmed same as Captain's, with the addition of eyes of gold Russia braid above the top chevron.

Colonel's and Lieutenant-Colonel's sleeves same as Major's with the addition of eyes of Russia braid underneath the lower chevron.

Field Officer's collars to be eyed with gold Russia braid underneath the upper line of edging.

Embroidered collar badges to be worn by Field Officers only, according to rank. Shoulder-straps of double-square gold cord with small corps button.

All chevrons to be � of an inch apart. Hooks and eyes down front.

Mess Vest.-Blue cloth, French cut. Edged with gold Russia braid round the top, down the front, and along the bottom to the side seams; eye in each corner Crow's foot at each end and centre (top and bottom edges) of pocket. A row of gilt studs, and hooks and eyes down the front.

Helmet.-Same as for the Royal Marine Artillery, with the following exception:

The plate to be a gilt eight-pointed star with dead and bright rays and crown above ; the dimensions of the star from top of crown to point of star at bottom 4 and fifteen sixteenth inches, and 4 and three eighths inches wide ; on the star to be mounted a dead gilt laurel wreath and saw pierced garter with regimental motto "Per Mare, Per Terram ;" above the garter a gilt scroll "Gibraltar," below it a gilt anchor, and in the centre a silver globe 1 inch diameter. Under the saw pierced garter blue enamel and below the anchor on the bottom point of star a small silver tie bugle to be mounted.

The bottom central ray of the plate for Royal Marine Light Infantry is to come half way over the cloth band.

Forage Caps (Lieutenant-Colonels, Captains and Lieutenants).-Blue cloth, gold-embroidered badge, with a silver globe in centre, gold embroidered bugle at top, black oak-leaf band 1� inch wide, with silk button trimmed with eyes of back silk braid on crown. Black leather peak.

Sash, Fulldress.-Gold and crimson net, 2� inches wide in � inch stripes of gold and crimson alternately, gold an crimson runner and tassels. To be worn only on state occasions and at balls.

Sash, Undress.-Crimson silk net.

Swod Belt, Fulldress.-Gold lace, of the same pattern as on the fulldress trowsers, lined with crimson morocco leather, slings of similar lace � inch wide. To be worn only on state occasions and at balls.

Sword Belt, Undress.-White enamelled leather, 1� inch wide, with slings 1 inch wide, flap, and gilt hook.

Sword.-Half-basket hilt and back-piece of gilt metal with device of Royal cipher and crown and lined with black patent leather fish-skin grip, bound with gilt wire, slightly curved blade, grooved, and spear-pointed.

Scabbard.-Brass, for Field ; for other Officers, steel.

Sword Knot, Fulldress.-Gold and crimson strap, with gold acorn.

Sword Knot Undress.-White buff leather, and acorn of same material.

Sabretache (for Mounted Officers only).-Black patent leather, fitted with writing and sketching materials, connected with sword-belt by three white patent leather slings, enamelled on both sides, with gilt corps device with motto in centre of same.

Pantaloons (Mounted Officers only).-Blue cloth, with welts as in cloth trowsers.

Boots and Spurs (Mounted Officers, when on mounted. duties) -Same as described for Colonels Commandant. and Colonels Second Commandant above.

Note.-4th December, 1874.-The Scarlet Patrol Jacket is to be discontinued; but those now in possession may be continued in use, as laid down in existing regulations, until worn out.

Subject to the above exception, Tunics must be worn. on all occasions (except when the Blue Patrol Jacket is authorised) ; but, in order to save expense, Officers may furnish themselves with a second Tunic of serge or light cloth (in all other respects the same as the Regulation Tunic), to be worn upon those duties now sanctioned for the scarlet Patrol Jacket.
