Order In Council, No. 10.-C.W.

At the Court of Balmoral,

The 23rd day of October 1877.

Present: The Queen's most Excellent Majesty in Council.

Whereas there was this day read at the Board a Memorial from the Right honourable the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty, dated the 4th of October 1877 in that the words following, viz. :

Whereas we have had under our consideration the Regulations (authorised by Your Majesty''s Order in Council of 3rd August 1867 and 4th November 1867) under which leave of absence on full pay is granted to certain officers of your Majesty's Nay on their return from Foreign service, on the following scale, viz:

	Weeks leave
Officers with over 2 and less than 3 years Foreign service<	6
Officers with over 3 and less than 4 years Foreign service	7
Officers with over 4	8

And whereas since the date of the before mentioned Orders in Council greater indulgence in this matter has been granted to the crews of Your Majesty's ships on their return from Foreign service the minimum period of two years Foreign service not being insisted on in their case, additional leave being also granted in cases where the ship's commission has been prolonged to an unusual extent or where she has been employed on service of an exceptionally arduous nature.

We do therefore most humbly submit that we be empowered in a similar manner to grant full pay leave to such officers of Your Majesty's Navy as are in other respects eligible under present Regulations for such indulgence, but who have less than two years Foreign service, on the following scale, viz.:

1. With 1 year's service and under 1� . . . 14 days
2. With 1� year's service and under 2 . . . 21 days

the Regulations as regards officers having more than two years Foreign service remaining as at present.

And we do further beg leave to submit that we be authorized at our discretion and in very special and exceptional cases only to dispense with the minimum period of one year herein laid down, and also to grant additional leave beyond the maximum of eight weeks.

The Lords Commissioners of Your Majesty's Treasury have expressed their concurrence in the cost of these proposals."

Her Majesty, having taken the said Memorial into consideration, was pleased, by and with the advice of Her Privy Council, to tip prove of what is therein proposed. posed. And the Right Honourable the Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty are to give the necessary directions herein accordingly.
