Circular No. 43.-P

Admiralty, 12th November, 1867.

My Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty are pleased to direct, under the authority of her Majesty's Orders in Council of the 3rd of August last and 4th instant, that Staff Commanders, Lieutenants, Navigating Lieutenants, Chaplains, Naval Instructors, Staff Surgeons, Surgeons, Assistant Surgeons, Paymasters, Chief Engineers, Engineers, and Assistant Engineers may, at their Lordships' discretion, be allowed, on the return from service on Foreign Stations, the full pay of their respective ranks for the following periods, according to the length of their service abroad, viz.;

  • Over 2, and under 3 years . . . . 6 weeks' Full Pay.
  • Over 3, and under 4 years . . . . 7 weeks' Full Pay.
  • Over 4 years . . . . . . . . . . . . .8 weeks' Full Pay.

The same to commence from the date of their being paid off, or of their return to England, as the case may be.

Sub-Lieuts., Navigating Sub-Lients., and Assistant Paymasters may also, at their Lordships' discretion, have the same leave under similar circumstances, if not on ships' books.

This boon will not be given to officers superseded for their own convenience. dismissed by sentence of Court Martial, or removed from their ships for any misconduct.

In special cases, officers invalided from the effects of climate, &c., may at their Lordships' discretion, be granted leave of absence on full pay for a further period, not exceeding one month, if it appears, on his being surveyed, that the officer's state of health renders it necessary that he should continue under medical treatment.

These Regulations are to come into operation on the 1st of December, 1867.

Leave of Absence on Full Pay to Officers on Their Return from Foreign Service.

My Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty are pleased, under the authority of her Majesty's Order in Council of the 29th ultimo, to extend to Chief Gunners, Chief Boatswains, Chief Carpenters, Gunners, Boatswains, and Carpenters, the boon of leave of absence on full pay after return from service on Foreign Stations, under the same regulations as those established for the other ranks of officers mentioned in Circular No. 43, P, of the 12th of November, 1867.
