22 Nov 1799 Plymouth, arrived off the Sound, at 2 P.M. and lay to, the San Fiorenzo, 44, full of signals for outward-bound vessels to make sail and join the Straits, West India, and Lisbon convoys, then off this port ; several vessels joined their respective convoys under care of the Queen Charlotte, 110, Sans Pareil, 84, Tisiphone, 18, and Fairy, 18 ; and proceeded down Channel with a fine wind blowing at E.

5-6 Feb 1800 chase and capture of the French 38-gun frigate Pallas, subsequently purchased into the Service as the Pique.

28 Feb 1800 a court martial was held on board the Gladiator at Portsmouth on Mr. William Dimock Smith, Boatswain of the sloop Fairy, for drunkenness, neglect of duty and behaving in a contemptuous manner to his captain. The charge being proved and he was sentenced by the court to be rendered incapable of serving again as an officer in the RN, and to serve before the mast on board such other of HM ships as the Commander in Chief at Spithead shall direct.

6 Feb 1800 Plymouth, arrived the Fairy, Harpy, Suffisante and Sunflower, from a cruise.

9 Feb 1800 Plymouth, arrived the Fairy, 18, six-pdrs., and the Harpy, 18, 32-pdr. Carronades, both much damaged, having fallen in with La Pallas previous to her being taken by La Loire, &c. and sustained a most gallant action for near an hour, by which means La Loire fell in with her. In this unequal contest the above sloops of war were much damaged : the Fairy had 4 seamen killed, Capt. Horton and Mr. Hughes, Purser, wounded in the arm, and 6 seamen ; and Harpy, one killed, and three wounded.

16 Feb 1800 Plymouth, departed the Swan and Fairy cutters, to join Adm. Sir A. Gardner off Brest.

18 Feb 1800 Plymouth, departed the Fairy, Harpy, and Dasher on a cruise off the coast of France.

28 Feb 1800 Portsmouth, �.. a Court Martial was held on board the Gladiator, on Mr. William Dimock Smith, Boatswain of the Fairy, for drunkenness, neglect of duty, and behaving in a contemptuous manner to his Captain. 12 Apr 1800 Portsmouth, the Trusty and Fairy came into the harbour to refit.

11 Jul 1800 Portsmouth, a Court Martial was held on board the Gladiator, in the harbour, for the trial of Joseph Brown, a seaman belonging to HM sloop Fairy, for desertion. The Court were of opinion, that the charge had been proved against the prisoner ; but in consideration of his very good character, and particularly his great exertions and meritorious conduct on board the Impregnable after she was ashore, and other circumstances, he was only sentenced to be mulcted of his pay.
