CASEBOLT/CASBOLT DNA PROJECT

This page was begun 26 October 2003, last revised 14 January 2004 ... rak.

The goals of this project are to test my two working hypotheses:

 a) that all Casebolts/Casbolts around the world are descended from one Cambridgeshire, England ancestor, and

 b) that virtually all of the Casebolts/Caseboldts in the US are descended from one male ancestor, Thomas of Maryland.

This is a project that studies the Y-chromosome, so, for good or for ill, participation in the Project is limited to males who are totally of direct-line male-Casebolt descent.  In the process of the study, we should be able to unravel some of the very complex ancestries of the Casebolt/Terrys of Knott County, Kentucky and similar mysteries around the US.  I am already running one DNA project on my Dad's people, the Kraus family.  To check out that project click here.  My mom was a Casebolt.

This project was just organized today, 26 October 2003.  Any Casebolt/Casbolt/Caseboldt is invited to join up and submit his DNA sample.  We will learn a lot about the family and its ancient roots together.  Results will be posted on pages added to this site as we go along.  Participants will be kept informed as new information is available.

Even if you are not a qualifying male, but would like to help further the project, you can.  The basic DNA test as provided in this project costs a bit more than $100.  Some qualifying males may not be able to finance the whole thing, so if you want to help and have some funds available, let me know how much you would be willing to provide at [email protected].  I will hook you up with someone who needs a bit of help with the funds and will keep you informed about the on-going project results, just as if you were a full project participant.  Similarly, if you are an eligible male and could use some help with the funds, let me know about how much you will need via that same e-mail address.  Cheers, Dick Kraus, Casebolt DNA Project Administrator

PS.  For those folks who like myself have learned to be a bit skeptical of things and people, I offer the following:  I have no financial interest in this study nor do I receive any part of the fees charged by the lab.  My interest is solely in what we jointly learn.  Dick Kraus
