In the published book, I had John31 marrying Sabra. Now I am more than half convinced that it was this John18 who married Sabra; then left her while under threat of death; then took refuge with relatives of his step-mother, Elizabeth1.2, and fathered a child out-of-wedlock by a relative of Elizabeth's; and then escaped again ending up with his mother and full-siblings in Ohio. Ken Dyer has done much of the research on this an may disagree with my tentative conclusions. Stay tuned!

About the time of Sally’s birth, John1 left his "northern" family and went south. Evidently he never returned. It probably would not have been healthy to do so since the brothers of his deserted wife were powers to be reckoned with in the Little Levels where he had lived with his northern family. His second "marriage" evidently was a common law arrangement. Having survived the accusations of adultery in court filed by his eldest son, Thomas11 McNeal Casebolt, John1 and Mary1.2, or Elizabeth1.2 as she evidently was usually known, lived as man and wife and raised another large family. Meanwhile his wife, evidently following the lead of her son-in-law Joseph Ohaver, took most of her children up into south-central Ohio.
Elizabeth1.2 was a widow with three children when she took up with John1 so the eldest children in their family were John’s stepchildren, half-siblings to her Casebolt offspring. The parentage of these daughters is proven in their grandfather Davis’ will.

Isaac1G is an almost complete mystery. He shows up on one census record; then later there are some younger folk who could be his descendants. If he was a Casebolt, John1 and Elizabeth1.2 surely were his parents.

No record of any marriage has been found for John1. Hannah1.1 is named as his wife in Bath County records and Elizabeth1.2 is named as his wife in Lee County records, but this apparently was while John1 was married to Hannah1.1.
No birth records have been found for any of John’s children. In Little Levels and Ohio there are records of them doing things for each other and for their mother which no one else did – in addition, there is a listing of the children of John’s nieces and nephews, and, aside from his brother, he was the only male Casebolt around to father those younger Casebolts not on the list of nieces and nephews. In the southern area, John1 and Elizabeth1.2 were the only adult Casebolts available to be parents of the younger Casebolts. Here too there is corroborating evidence for some in the county records.
