Lieutenant John Little[3], brother of Theophilus and Thomas, and youngest son of John Little[2], wed Mary Leeds on April 16, 1768 in Gloucester County, NJ. To them a son, John Leeds Little, was born May 19, 1777. There is a question as to whether John[3] was killed by the Hessians at Trenton Ford in 1777, or while leading a party of 30 militia at the battle of Tinton Falls in 1779. Little family records list his death as 1777.

Mary Leeds, born August 20, 1749, was the daughter of Robert Leeds, oldest son of Japhet Leeds of Little Egg Harbor, Gloucester County, New Jersey. Japhet was the son of Daniel Leeds of Burlington County, NJ, a proprietor and a member of the Royal Council of New Jersey before his death in 1720. Mary had four known siblings: Robert, Japhet, Daniel and Thomas.

Prior to his death, John lived on the Chestnut Plain farm of 211 acres, owned by his grandfather John Little[2]. It appears that he was also in charge of one of the family saw mills, possibly the one near Wreck Pond (Bk L of Deeds, p.418 and Book M, p.217)

John Leeds Little married the daughter of Jacob Herbert of Monmouth County, NJ., prior to 1799. John and Mercy Herbert Little were parents to ten children, nine of whom lived to maturity.

Notes: **Gilbert Frank Little inherited the farm purchased by his grandfather, Gilbert Clark Little in 1837. Situated between Meadville and Sagerstown, PA, it was sold after his death in 1926 by his son and heir John Little.

Records of the Presbyterian Church at Shrewsbury indicate that on June 12, 1881 in a meeting attended by Robert Evelman, Henry Tiebaut, Esq., Richard Wikof, Robert Drummond, John Leeds Little and Samuel W. Tenbrook, a resolution was passed to erect a new church whose doors would be opened to all denominations when not in use by Presbyterians. The building was erected in 1822 and is the present church. John Leeds Little died three years later. He and his wife Mercy Herbert Little are buried in the church yard.
