  • Salinda, wife of J. E. BENJAMIN, died on Nov. 5th of consumption. Funeral on Friday, at Evangelical church, interment at Bahr's cemetery.

    20 Nov. 1879

  • Peter HAY, died on Saturday at his home, No. 335 S. Sixth St. He was born Nov. 1788 in this city (Philadelphia). He enlisted in a company of volunteers for service during the war with Great Britain in 1812. He published a newspaper, elected to State Legislature (Democrat) and the Senate. He was 91 at the time of his death.
  • Mrs. Eliza GRAFFIS, died in Forksville, Nov. 15th, of dropsy, aged 28 years 2 months and 8 days.
  • Miss Hattie N. WOODWARD, died Thursday night at 12:15 at the residence of her brother, N. K. WOODWARD of Dushore. She made all the arrangements for her burial. She was 38 years 1 month and 13 days, a member of the Presbyterian Church. The remains were taken to Hamdon, Delaware Co., NY for burial in the cemetery beside her mother.
  • LaPorte – Mrs. T. J. KEELER, died on the 15th inst., at 5 am. She leaves a husband and three children.

    27 Nov. 1879 (Thursday)

  • Peter GILMORE'S son, fell backwards into a wash-boiler of hot water and was so severly scalded about ten days ago that he died on Saturday. He was about 4 or 5 years old.
  • Hon. Geo. D. JACKSON, died on Sunday morning after an illness of many months at his residence in Dushore. He was born in Berwick, Columbia Co., 16 April 1827, and was 52 years 6 months and 7 days. In 1846 he finished his studies at Wyoming Seminary, Kingston, and came to Dushore (his father's family followed the next year). A store was opened by Dr. Jackson and later by his son, George D. He helped develop the Loyal Sock coal fields and construction of a railroad there. He was elected to the legislature for Columbia, Wyoming, Montour and Sullivan Co. in 1859/60 and re-elected in 1863/4. He represented the 15th Senatorial district in 1867-9 and again in 1878. He was a member of the Grand Lodge Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and District Deputy Grand Master of the district composed of Sullivan Co. Funeral from the Evangelical Church to Bahr's Cemetery, where the body was deposited beside his father and mother. He was a kind father and good citizen.
  • Sarah Ann, w/o T. F. KEELER, died at her residence in LaPorte on Nov. 15th, aged 36 years 5 months and 12 days. She was a member of the Cherry Baptist Church and then the Eaglesmere Baptist Church. She leaves a husband and three children.

    4 December 1879

  • John MIFFLIN, of Beach Haven, Luzerne Co., arrived at DuShore to visit relatives (Geoerge & Maggie CRULL), planing a hunt. Driving up to Reeser's Hotel, he alighted and in taking the gun from the wagon, with the muzzle toward him, the hammer caught and the rifle was discharged, the ball passing through a blanket, his overcoat and other clothing into his abdomen on the left side in front and lodged an inch and a half from the spine. He walked into the hotel, but began failing immediately and died Saturday morning at 6. He was 28 years of age. The body was taken back to Beach Haven for interment on Monday.
  • Nelson C. PARDOE, died at his residence in Elkland Twp, 20 Nov., about 9 pm, aged 30 years. He was a member of the Wesleyan Methodist Church at Bethel. He leaves a family with young children. The funeral was held 22nd ult, from the house and laid to rest in the City of the Dead near by.
  • Geo. F. DIFFENBACH and Miss Ada K. BAHR, were married at the residence of the bride's father, in DuShore on Nov. 20th.

    10 Dec. 1879

  • Wednesday evening, Miss Helen, eldest d/o M. C. MERCUR, Esq. married Rev. G. F. ROSENMULLER, rector of the Episcopal Church at Sayre and Athens. The ceremony was performed at Christ Church, Towanda by Rt. Rev. M. A. DeWolf Howe and Rev. J S. Beers.
  • Thomas R. WINDEN, of Warrensville, Lycoming Co. married Miss Josie E., d/o Henry WANCK, at Campbellsville, by Rev. Richard Bedford, on Dec. 4th at the bride's fathers residence.
  • Sheldon HALL, died in LaPorte on Friday, Dec. 5th, aged 72 years 11 months and 27 days. Burial was Sunday, buried beside his soldier son, the late Nathan Callender HALL. He was twice married and had 7 children; he buried his last wife, Oct. 1865 and his last surviving child in Jan. 1869. His relatives mainly reside in Abington and through out Lackawanna Co.
  • R. W., 21, s/o John MC CULLOUGH, a wealthy liquor merchant of Allegheny, committed suicide on Saturday by shooting himself through the heart. He had recently been very much depressed in spirits.

    17 Dec. 1879

  • A 14 year old boy named SMITH, of Granville Center, quarreled with his father on Sunday a week, and afterwards went to the barn and hanged himself.
  • Ezra D. VOUGH and Miss Henrietta E. SHAFFER, both of Forks Twp., were married 10th inst. by Rev. Thaon S. Kohler at the Reformed parsonage, Overton.
  • Forksville - John BROWN, 74, was buried at Forksville on Sunday last. He was a pioneer of the Loyal Sock Valley, most of whom have passed away.
  • Millview – John BROWN Sr., died at the residence of his son, Isaac BROWN, in Elkland, Sullivan Co. on Dec. 12th. He came here from England, and member of the Baptist Church. Funeral was on Sunday, 14th at Forksville.
  • The funeral of John O'CONNELL will take place this morning at 10 o'clock.

    24 Dec. 1879

  • Ziba G. MAJOR, of Lehman, was crushed by a stump he was excavating when it fell on him. He was about 30 years of age and leaves a widow and two children. Funeral took place at the Baptist Church, Lehmanon Saturday morning.
  • The infant son of Martin SWEENY, residing on Ringer Hill, was interred in the Catholic Cemetery on Sunday morning.
