- Albany Valley - Mrs. John BROWN died Friday morning, Dec. 24th, of typhoid fever at the home of her son-in-law, James MILLER. Interment at Laddsburg Sunday. She leaves a husband and three children.
- L. D. BOSTON and Miss Minta B. WILCOX, dau. of Mr. & Mrs. E. P. WILCOX of New Albany, were married Dec. 30th, 1897 at the residence of the bride's parents, the ceremony taking place at 3 PM.
- Musa, only d/o Mr. & Mrs. Boyd WILCOX, of New Albany, died at University Hospital in Phila., Dec. 13th, aged 14 years 6 months and 18 days. She entered the hospital Oct. 12th, to receive treatment for Bright's disease but medical science was unavailing. Her mother was with her when death came.
- Dec. 23rd was the 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. & Mrs. James THOMSON. Dr. THOMSON, of Luzerne, who was present at the wedding, came up to attend the golden wedding anniversary.
- Mrs. Daniel ERLE, of Colley, died 2nd Jan., aged 22 years 3 months and 6 days. A young husband and three little children mourn. The cause of death was Diptheria. Funeral and interment Jan. 4th at Colley.
- Mrs. John BROWN, of Laddsburg, died Dec. 24th at the home of her son-in-law, James MILLER. Funeral and interment Dec. 26th. She had left the side of her aged and invalid husband to go to her daughter, Mrs. MILLER, whose death from typhoid fever was mentioned in our last issue. Contracting the disease herself, she crossed the dark river only nine days after her daughter.
- The child of Mr. & Mrs. John HART of Newell, died Dec. 29th 1897, aged 21 days. Burial Dec. 31st at Bahr's Cemetery, Dushore.<-li>
- Charles, 4 month old child of Mr. & Mrs. John NEUBER, of Wilmot, died Jan. 1st, and was buried Jan. 4th.
- Shunk - Mrs. Wm. NORTON died last week of Diptheria. A husband and little daughter mourn her loss.

- Bernice - James BROWN and Mrs. F. THOMPSON were united in marriage on Jan. 4th, by John White, Esq.
- Cherry Mills - Mr. & Mrs. John RHOE are the parents of a young son.
- Terrytown - Mr. Daniel WHITE, a former resident of Terrytown, returned from Montana where he has been nearly 3 years.
- Edward BAUMGARTNER died at the home of his mother on Jan. 7th, aged 39 years. Funeral and interment at St. Basil's on 10th, death caused by peritonitis. He was known as the blind newsboy of Dushore. Card of thanks appears from mother and sisters of Ed.

- Estella - Mrs. U. BIRD attended the funeral of her father, Thos. MCCADDEN, at Brooklyn, NY on 8th inst.
- Hillsgrove - Paddy JACKSON, an old resident of this place, now of Union, Tioga Co., came over to band practice on Tuesday.
- Hillsgrove - The youngest child of Peter HOFFMASTER died of pneumonia last week.
- C. Wesley KETTERER, of Stouchburg (?), taxidermist, brother in law of Rev. J. W. KLINGLER, died last week of malignant Diptheria. It was opinion that he contracted the disease from a raccoon he had mounted a few days before.
- Bernice - Mr. & Mrs. John MORTER, a baby girl on Jan. 8th.

- Bernice - The body of John BOYCE who died at Ricketts last September, was disinterred on Jan. 18th and shipped to his home in Wayne Co.
- Bernice - Born to Mr. & Mrs. Wm. DEMPSEY, Jan. 18th - a daughter.
- William ABBEY attended the MCCLOSKEY and DOUGHTERTY wedding at Long Valley on Thursday.
- Hillsgrove - The infant child of Warren ROBBINS of Elk Creek, died Friday last and was buried here on Sunday.
- There are many people living in the western part of Sullivan Co. who remember Thomas HAGUE, who lived in Elkland Twp. from 1842-5. His most excellent wife, Sarah, died at their home in Sacramento, CA, the later part of Dec. 1897. He is now 68 years of age and is known as one of the capitalists of his adopted city.

- Cherry Mills - Mrs. Chas. CAIN, of Dushore is visiting her parents, Mr. & Mrs. John HARRISON, of this place.
- Albany Valley - Mr. & Mrs. Edgar JONES are rejoicing over the arrival of a son.
- Albany Valley - Mrs. Elmer WHITE and daughter of Towanda are visiting her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Frank MILLER.
- Albany Valley - A son born to Mr. & Mrs. John MILLER recently.
- Frank MCGUIRE, aged 17, employed in a lumber camp near Estella, was struck by a log and almost instantly killed on Thursday of last week.
- A sad accident on Jan. 26th, near Jamison City, by which Joseph W. GANFORD, of Williamsport last his life. He was tending a log slide, when a large log jumped the slide and pinned him against a stump, crushing his leg from the hip to knee. Surgical assistance was rendered and the unfortunate boy taken to his sister's home in Williamsport, where he died Thursday, he was 29.
- Mr. & Mrs. James CUNNINGHAM were called to Scranton last week by the death of Mrs. Edward EVANS, the wife of Mrs. Cunningham's brother.
10 Feb. 1898
- Bernice -Mrs. Frank GUNUSKY, Shinersville, has a surprise on Jan. 31st - her 55th birthday.
- Estella - Jan. 26th while Frank MCGUIRE was helping his brother, Charles, load logs, he met with an accident which cost him his life. They had loaded the bottom tier and Frank was holding the logs from spreading apart, when Charles rolled a log on top. This log went over the load, one end striking the ground and the other end rolled onto Frank with such force as to crush him to the earth, injuring his head severely and severing an artery. He bled terribly. Charles unloaded the logs and, holding his brother as best he could, drove rapidly home, a half or three-fourths of a mile away. Medical aid was summoned but the young man lived only two hours. The funeral was held on Saturday, interment at Sugar Ridge. He was born 22 Nov. 1878.
- Cherry Mills - Mr. & Mrs. William KRAUSE, have a daughter.
- Walter GOODWIN, the Tioga Co. man who was convicted at Wellsboro of having murdered his wife, will be hung the last day of March.
- John HEMBURY, of Lopez, and Miss Cressie KAIER, of this place were to be married in St. Basil's church this morning.
- Harry RHONE, of Hillsgrove and Miss Hetty S. MCINTIRE, of Millview, were married by Rev. S. F. Frazier on Feb. 8th.
- Rev. S. F. FRAZIER, of Millville, accompanied by his family, was in Ithaca last week, called there by the last illness of his aged father, Isaac J., who died Feb. 3rd at age 85.
17 Feb. 1898
- Bernice - 20th birthday party of John ROACH Jr., at Shinersville on Thursday.
- New Albany - 6th birthday of daughter of Mr. & Mrs. G. W. HAVERLY - last Friday
- New Albany - Chester CAREY still lies in critical condition. His step son, Robert MOTT and wife of East Lemon, are helping care for him.
- New Albany - George E. AYER and Miss Ethlyn HESTED, married at the home of the bride on Feb. 3rd by Rev. T. G. Phillips. They left for Virginia to visit the groom's sister - will reside at Hatch Hill upon their return.
- New Albany - Mrs. C. J. ALLEN was called to North Mountain last week by the serious illness of her brother, Elias GREEN. She was accompanied by her daughter, Ruby. Mr. GREEN died on Monday morning. The funeral was held on Feb. 16th.
- New Albany - Mrs. Mary RINEBOLT, of Athens is spending time with her grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Orin COLEMAN.
- Shunk - Daniel PORTER died at his home on Thursday, funeral by Elder Davidson on Sunday. He was 66 years old.
- Shunk - Born to Mr. & Mrs. Frank BRENCHLEY, a daughter.
- Clarence Amos, son of Solon A. HUNSINGER, of Colley, died Sunday afternoon of inflammation of the bowels, aged 2 years, 2 months and 23 days. Funeral was held at Colley Tuesday morning.
- James HARRIS, of Towanda, died on Thursday last, aged 86 years. He was appointed court crier of Bradford Co. in 1854 and held the office continuously since. He was a native of Wales.
- The execution of Walter GOODWIN will be the 2nd in Tioga Co. - the first case was that of George TRAVIS, in 1885, for the murder of Martha SYLVIA, with whom he had planned to elope.
- On Thursday last, John HEMBURY, of Lopez and Miss Cressie KAIER, of this place united in marriage at St. Basil's Church.
- Born to Mr. & Mrs. Geo. F. WOODHEAD, Feb. 1st, a daughter.
- A family reunion on Saturday at George C. BIRD'S in commemoration of his 69th birthday. All his children (6) and grandchildren (8) were present.
- The only daughter of Ira COTT died on Thursday and was buried Saturday, aged 9 years.
24 Feb. 1898
- Terrytown - Mr. & Mrs. Shubel Proof have a son.
- Mr. & Mrs. Victor C. HUGO, on Saturday, Feb. 19th - a daughter.
- The guns to be placed at the foot of the soldiers' monument in Tunkhannock arrived a few days ago from the Brooklyn navy yard. They are two thirty-two Parrot guns, weighing from 4,500 to 4,600 pounds each, while the mounts will weigh 700-800 pounds each, additional. They will flank the monument on either side and lend an imposing appearance to the scene.
- D. D. DIEFFENBACH died at his home in Colley, Feb. 21st aged 49 years. A wife and several children survive him. He was postmaster. Death was caused by pneumonia and sick but a few days. Funeral and interment Feb. 23rd.
- Jennie COTT, aged 9 years, 1 month and 13 days, died Feb. 10th. She was the only surviving daughter of Ira and Anna COTT, they having lost a little girl, aged about 7 years, 2 or 3 years before Jennie's birth. The funeral was held on Sunday, and buried from the church at Shunk.

died on Thursday, Feb. 24th, of
consumption at the home of her brother,
Luke MC KERNAN. She was 32 years old and
leaves three small children.

Columbia Co. Tuesday by the death of his
brother, Washington, which occurred on

came to open Court to ask leave to resign
his office as constable,

Robert were called to Corning, NY on
Monday of last week, by the sudden death
of her eldest daughter, Mrs. Charles
CONNOR, of that city.

of pneumonia, aged 5 months and 12 days.
The funeral was Saturday in St. John's
Lutheran Church, Wilmot
- Services held on Saturday afternoon in
Colley Church in memory of Mrs. Daniel L.
ERIE, who died Jan. 2nd of Diptheria.
- John GLIDEWELL, one of the first settlers
of Sullivan Co., died at the Glidewell
homestead near Nordmont on Friday last in
his 97th year. He was born of English
parents on board of ship as the vessel
lay at quarantine in NY harbor Sept. 17th
1801. On their journey into the wilds of
PA, his parents settled for a time at
Northumberland, but in 1818 the family
located to the present site of Sonestown,
in the vacinity of which place the
deceased resided all his life.
In 1836 he purchased a tract of woodland
and began clearing the same. He succeeded
in placing about 100 acres under
cultivation, the greater part of which is
surrounded by stone fence. At the time of
his death he was survived by nine
children, thirty-two grandchildren,
seventy-five great grand children and one
great great grandchild and two great
great great grandchildren, total of 119
living descendants.
- Terrytown Edmund H. VIALL died at
his home of pneumonia, Feb. 28th, aged 40
years. He was a member of the ME Church,
leaves a wife and four children. His
remains were laid to rest in the
Terrytown Cemetery, March 2nd.

Colley, died of convulsions. Funeral was
held Friday morning at the house.

died last week. She was the mother of S.
B. DAVIDGE, one of the firm of L. S.
Burch & Co., owners of the burned
mills
- Mildred M., d/o Jacob T. HOFFMAN, of
Wyalusing, died on Tuesday morning, aged
1 year 4 months and 29 days. Funeral
Thursday morning in old Zion's church.
Interment in cemetery adjoining
- Mrs. Wm. HOTTENSTEIN, of Forks Twp., died
Sat. evening, March 12th. The funeral was
held on Monday. Services were conducted
at the house and the burial took place at
the Overton Reformed Cemetery. Deceased
was 61 years
- Dr. WADDELL, died at a hospital in
Philadelphia, Monday, March 14th, aged 46
years 10 months and 21 days. The body was
immediately shipped to Dushore, arriving
here Tuesday morning, March 15th, when it
was taken to his residence, from whence
the funeral will be held this Thursday
afternoon, Interment at Bahr's Hill.
He was b. at Moreland, Schuyler Co., NY.
Attended Jefferson Medical College,
Philadelphia, with the class of '77. He
first located at Proctor, Lycoming Co.,
moving from there to Forksville then to
Dushore, Sullivan Co. in March 1879. He
was elected county coroner in 1884, and a
Member of the Assembly in 1888. He was
Republican. In the early part of last
October he was married to Miss Laura
POMEROY. He retired from practice about
three years ago. On March 7th he was
carried from his bed to a train and taken
to Phila, for a final surgical operation
in the vain hope of prolonging his life.
The operation was performed Monday
afternoon, March 14th, and he never
rallied from the shock. He died with his
young wife at his side and her name on
his lips. 24 March

death of Mrs. Annie MC EWEN, w/o of John,
former resident of this place. Funeral at
Williamsport on Friday.
- March 21 was the birthday of J. H.
LEPSCH, of the Standard Wood Co., Lopez,
and his wife remembered the occasion by
presenting him with a new daughter. Few
wives would be so thoughtful.
- Lloyd SICK and Miss Mary STROUP were
married March 17th at the residence of
the groom's father, Joseph Sick. The
bride's parents live near Bloomsburg.
Ceremony performed by Rev. E. S. Noll.
They will make their home at Cherry
Mills.
- Ethel, d/o Charles B. HEVERLEY, died at
home of Solon Heaverly in Cherry Twp.,
March 17th, aged 1 year 9months 11days.
Funeral held Sunday in the Lutheran
Church. The mother of the little girl
died about a year ago.

died March 23rd, aged 5 years 6 months.

surprise 85th birthday party given by his

- Two of the oldest ladies in Dushore are
laying very sick in the same house of the
same disease lagrippe. Mrs. J. W.
MARTIN, 84, and Mrs. D. H. FAIRCHILD, 71.
- Sonestown Mrs. Wm. STARR did
shopping in Williamsport last week
- Sonestown The funeral of John
SHEETS, who was brought here from Lewis
Co., NY took place at the Methodist
Church Sunday afternoon. He was the
brother of Mrs. Jerome LAIRD and A. L.
SHEETS of this place.

CONLEY are the happy parents of a young

- Samuel SPITKO, of Lopez and Miss Julia
SCHOLTZ, of Bernice, were married March
31st at Zion's Lutheran Church by Rev. J.
W. Klingler. They will make their home in
Lopez, he is an employee of Jennings
Bros.
- Violetta M., d/o George F. MORNINGSTAR,
of Colley, died on March 31st, aged 8
years 2 months 4 days. Funeral held at
Colley Sunday afternoon
- Policeman William STECKER, of Athens,
died in Sayre hospital April 1st. He was
shot in the face March 4th by a burglar
trying to rob the Athens post office. The
bullet was removed from the back of his
ear and the wound healed nicely, but
heart trouble set in causing the death of
the brave officer. His murderer has not
been caught.
- Lopez We do not know for when or
where, but Frank CAMPBELL is setting up
the 10-cent cigars to the boys. They say
he is married.

- Bernice Joseph WATTERS, of Towanda
and Miss Susie SHARP, of Shinersville,
were married at the parsonage of St.
Francis Church on Thursday morning by
Rev. J. A. Enright.
- Charles HUGO, died at his home in Elkland
Twp., April 17th, aged 60 years, 4 months
and 3 days. Funeral was April 20th.
Charles was born in Gilson, Germany, 13
Dec. 1838 and came to America at the age
of 13, to Phila. where he learned the
trade of cabinet maker. He then returned
to Germany after 8 years and returned to
America a year later settling in Sullivan
Co. He was a commissioner from 1888-1890,
and held other various offices in Elkland
Twp. A wife and 10 children survive to
mourn.
- Estella Mrs. Mordecai SCHOONOVER
died suddenly April 1st, aged 73. The
funeral was held on the 4th inst. at the
Green Mountain School House by Rev.
Mosher. Interment in Green Mountain
Cemetery. She was the mother of 12
children, all of whom have long since
preceded her to the silent resting place.
Her husband in his 78th year, alone
remains to mourn her loss.
- Estella Rosa Linda MC CARTY, d/o
Lewis, died April 11th, aged 14 years.
Angeline (BIRD) MC CARTY, mother of the
above, died one day later, aged 46 years.
A double funeral was held at the Wesleyan
Church on Thursday with Rev. S. F.
Frazier officiating. Interment at Warren
Cemetery. At this writing Mr. MC CARTY is
in a critical condition, there being
little hope for his recovery (Does not
say what they died from)
- Estella George Lawrence, s/o Geo.
C. & Mary BIRDSALL died the 12th
inst, aged 2 years 7 months. Funeral on
Friday, Rev. S. F. Frazier preaching the
sermon. Interment at Estella.

- Estella On their way home from
attending the funeral of Chas. HUGO on
Wed. Mrs. Fred ROSBACK and mother in law
met with a serious accident. The rear
seat on which they were sitting, became
loose, and the horses starting up
suddenly, jerked the seat and occupants
from the wagon, both the ladies striking
on their heads and shoulders. They are in
a critical condition, with little hopes
of the elderly lady, aged 77, recovering.

Chas. G. WEBSTER, a daughter; and to Mr.
& Mrs. Wesley WALTER, a son.
- S. S. ROGERS and wife, of Millview,
visited their daughter, Mrs. Wm. PARKER
at Hughesville in Dushore to visit
another daughter, Mrs. H. N. OSLER
- James P. VINCENT, died at his home in
Milan, Bradford Co., on Sunday morning,
cause pneumonia. He was 37. A wife and
one daughter, aged 7, survive; his
mother; one sister Ida; two brothers
Charles & Fred P.. Mr. & Mrs.
Percival WENTZEL, of this place the
parents of Mrs. VINCENT attended the
funeral.
- Mrs. C. J. BOYD has been visiting
relatives in Sullivan Co. the past nine
months, left Wed. for Lead City, SD where
she will visit and then return home to
Los Angeles, CA.
- A dead infant was found last Tuesday
locked in a trunk in the room occupied by
a girl named Grace HAINES, in the
residence of E. I. Brundage, near
Nordmont. It was very decomposed. A
coroner's inquest revealed that the child
was dead when born, and that the birth
occurred March 23rd. The girl claimed she
was ill with dropsy.
- J. M. MC DONALD who came from National
Soldiers' home at Milwaukee to Dushore,
to find his brother. On arrival here he
found that his brother had moved to
Salem, Wayne Co. His money gave out when
he got to Meshoppen and he was making his
way toward Salem as best he could. He was
quite crippled, having lost in the war
one foot, one arm and a part of his nose.
- Benjamin Patterson SEXTON, died at the
home of his parents, Mr. & Mrs. John
L. SEXTON, April 13th after a long
illness of Bright's disease. He was born
in Big Flats, Chemung Co., NY 15 Oct.
1859. He read law, and after worked in
several newspaper offices finally
the editor of the "Blossburg
Advertiser".
- A sad accident occurred Wed. morning of
last week at the Stackhouse saw mill in
Shrewsbury Township, whereby John SONES
lost his life. Mr. Sones was engaged
filling a saw, when for some unknown
reason, the machinery started suddenly,
throwing the workman against the saw, and
before he could be rescued from his
perilous position, the cruel teeth of the
saw cut through both legs almost severing
them below the hips. The injured man was
made as comfortable as possible, but
before medical aid could reach him he
died from loss of blood.
The deceased was a soldier of the late
rebellion and is survived by a wife and
children. The funeral took place Friday
morning at ten o'clock from the late
residence of the deceased in Franklin
Twp., Lycoming Co. Mrs. J. W. MARTIN,
of this place, died April 24th, aged 84
and 5 months. She was a sister of the
late Hon. D. H. Fairchild, who died a
year ago, and was the last surviving
child of Freeman FAIRCHILD, who came to
Sullivan Co. in 1819. She was born in NJ,
but all her life, except a few years had
been spent within the limits of what is
now Sullivan Co. She is survived by her
aged husband. The funeral services were
held at the Lutheran Church Tuesday at
10:30 am, burial at Cadwallader Cemetery
in this township
Off to War
- George BRADLEY, whose mother and sister
live at this place, came home from
Danville Monday to say good bye. He left
in full uniform to join the 9th Regiment,
NGP;
- Leonard DEEGAN, s/o Jerry, of this place,
enlisted in one of the Wilkes Barre
companies of the 9th Reg. And expected to
go with the Guards. Both boys are sons of
veterans.
- Frank SNELL, of Williamsport is a member
of the 12th Reg., and came to say good
bye to his mother, Mrs. J. A.
BAUMGARDNER. He wears a marksman's badge.
- Cherry Mills Mr. & Mrs. F. J.
MC DONALD, had a 10 ½ pound girl on
Sunday.
5 May 1898
- Bernice - Cornelius DORIGAN, of Waverly, NY, and Miss Elizabeth DONOVAN, of this place, were married April 27th at St. Francis' church at 8 am by Rev. Father Enright. The left for Waverly, NY where they will make their home.

- A 5 year old son of Mr. & Mrs. F. W. GALLAGHER, of LaPorte, was last week attacked with appendicitis. An operation was performed last Friday in hopes of saving the child's life but it was of no avail. The little one died Sunday and was buried Tuesday.
- Mrs. Rebekah PACKARD, of Covington, who will be 103 years old if she lives until Oct. 13th. Eight of her eleven children are still living, total number of living descendants is ninety-eight. She was born in Norfolk, CT, but since 1807 has lived in Tioga Co. (Canton Sentinel)
- Chas. M. CLARK, of Hillsgrove and Miss Nellie BIRD, of Estella were married in Peace Church, May 8th by Rev. J. W. Klingler.

- Bernice - Mrs. G. M. PEETS, of Ricketts, was buried in St. Francis cemetery at this place on Wed.
- Bernice - Mrs. Bridget DONOVAN, departed this life at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Rosa HOFFA, on Saturday night, aged about 60 years. She was left alone with a family of seven small children, and made a heroic struggle for a number of years. She is survived by three sons and four daughters. Interment at St. Francis Cemetery, Tuesday morning, 10 o'clock.

- Estella -William W. BOYLE, postmaster at Estella, died May 28th, aged 63 years. Funeral on Sat., interment at Pleasant Slope Cemetery, Estella. He leaves a wife and two children, a brother and sister to mourn his demise.
- Terrytown - Mr. & Mrs. Richard FOX are rejoicing over the advent of a young daughter.
- The children and grandchildren of A. H. ZANER, of this place surprised him for his 71st birthday on May 23rd. All six of his children were present and 11 grandchildren.
- Marie Alice GAREY, only daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Lyman GAREY, of this place died May 21st, aged 15 years 9 months and 9 days. The cause was appendicitis. The funeral was Monday (23rd).
- Matthew FORAN, of Cherry Twp. died May 22nd, aged 94 years, buried at St. Basil's in this place on May 25th. He was born in Ireland and emigrated to America as a young man. He had lived many years in Sullivan Co…supposed was the oldest man in the county.

- Lopez - John TEANS, a German, left this place last week for Germany.
- Estella -The 3-year-old son of the mail carrier from Shunk to Forksville, died Monday. The servant girl was cleaning house and had set several bottles on the floor - the child got hold of one containing carbolic acid and drank the contents. Medical aid was called but it was too late to render any assistance. Death came in a very short time.

- Bernice - Charles COOK and Miss Jeanette, d/o Mr. & Mrs. Jas. RAMSEY were married Wed. afternoon at the home of the bride's parents by Rev. J. W. Klingler.
- Mrs. Henrietta PERSUN, died at her residence in Cherry Twp. on June 1st, aged 85 years 7 months and 5 days. The funeral took place and interment at Old Zions Lutheran Church on June 4th. She is survived by the following children: Mrs. Hiram KISNER, of Cherry; D. G. PERSUN, of Picture Rocks; Nathan PERSUN, of Dushore; D. W. PERSUN, of Cherry; Mrs. John S. HOFFA, of Dushore; and Miss Lina PERSUN of Cherry.
- Rev. Elias S. NOLL, pastor of the Reformed Church of this place and Miss Lydia ZANER of Washingtonville were married at the bride's parents on June 7th by Rev. D. W. Ebbert.

- Nordmont - The little son of Mrs. & Mrs. CRANMER, of Nordmont, died May 31st, aged 2 years 1 month and 8 days. Burial on Wed. June 1st in Cherry Grove Cemetery.
- Mrs. James F. RILEY, nee Margaret CORCORAN, formerly of this place died in NYC on June 3rd, aged about 40 years. The remains were brought to this place June 5th and burial from St. Basil's that afternoon.

- Lopez - William GOULD died Monday morning of diabetes. He was a charter member of the K. O. T. M., has been with Jennings Bros. six or seven years, and was a devoted father. A wife and four small children mourn his demise. Funeral and burial took place at Bernice Wed. He was 48 years old.

- The funeral of Mrs. Ellen CARROLL, of Towanda, was held at this place last Friday, interment taking place at St. Basil's.
- Hannah FARRELL, widow of the late E. A. FARRELL, has bought the Lopez Hotel of Deegan & Farrell, consideration $6000.
- Sonestown - Walter HAZEN and niece, Pearl HOUSEKNECHT, were visiting friends in Hughesville recently.
- Sonestown - Wilson STARR, who was injured in Kiess' lumbering camp by being caught between two logs and breaking his leg, is much improved.
- Sonestown - Mr. & Mrs. J. W. BUCK and Mr. & Mrs. H. L. BUCK, with their families attended the funeral of their sister, Miss Etta, at Strawbridge Sunday.
- Estella - Mrs. Elizabeth BARTON, of South Dakota, sister of Allen LITTLE, Esq., is visiting old friends and relatives here. She left Sullivan County 30 years ago and this is her first visit to the place of her birth.

- Estella - Mary MCCARTY died on June 10th. The funeral held June 12th at the Friends' meeting house. Interment at the Friends' Cemetery. "Aunt Mary" was born 22 Dec. 1818, and was the last surviving child of Joel MCCARTY who was one of the first settlers in "the Elklands" having moved here from Northampton Co. with his family in 1803. She always lived on the farm where she was born. The homestead descended to her and her brother, Joseph, who died but a few years ago. She was a school teacher.(Note: also listed under Elkland - she was 80)

- Mr. & Mrs. Philip SHRIMP of Forks Twp., were married 16 years ago last Saturday night, and that night their first-born - a boy - made its appearance onto this terrestrial ball.
- The Rev. David CRAFT of Lawrenceville, PA will conduct a party of Elmirians over the route taken by General Sullivan in his expedition through the Wyoming and Susquehanna valleys. The party will start from Wilkes-Barre on June 27th and will proceed north making a week's trip through this historic section. Few persons are better informed, regarding the history of this locality than Mr. Craft.
- Bernice - Mr. & Mrs. David PEACOCK - a daughter, June 13th.
- Bernice - James GILLIGAN, 29, died. He was for a number of years a trusted clerk and shipper for the S. L. & S. Railroad Co. of this place. Friday evening he went to Towanda to consult Dr. Ladd and returned Sat. morning. About 8 o'clock Sunday morning he died, asthma being the cause of his death. Survived by his aged parents, brothers and sisters. Interment in St. Francis' Cemetery, Mildred, June 21st.

- Manning SUTTON, of Springfield Twp., Wyoming Co. met a terrible death June 22nd. He was endeavoring to lead a bull to water when the animal suddenly turned and attacked him. He was mutilated frightfully. Mrs. Sutton sent a dog to attack the bull but did drive him away from the man until the bull had put its horns through Mr. Sutton's heart, leaving him dead.(Note - there is no Springfield Twp. in Wyoming Co.)

- Harry HESS and Miss Hannah COTT, both of Lincoln Falls, married at Millview, July 2nd by Rev. S. F. Frazier.
- Mr. & Mrs. J. R. MOLYNEUX, of Millview, had a baby boy, on the hour of high noon, Monday. He was a heavyweight at 10 ¼ pounds. The birth was at the home of the grandparents - Rev. & Mrs. INGERSOLL.(Free Press,Montour Falls, NY)
- Solon HEVERLY died at his home in Cherry Twp., June 29th and was buried at Old Zion Church, July 2nd. He was 63 years and 5 days old, cause of death was disease of the kidneys. A wife and five children survive.
- Mrs. Mary E. FICK, w/o John, of Cherry Twp., died June 30th, aged 29 years. Interment July 2nd at Bahr's Hill. She had been a terrible sufferer for many months from blood poisoning, and the best of medical attendance found no remedy. She leaves a husband and six small children.
- Mrs. Anna THRASHER, widow of late Reuben, died at the residence of her only child, Jacob, in Cherry Twp., July 7th and buried Old Zion Church on July 10th. She was 79 years, 1 month, and 18 days old. (Note: the story mentions she was in the loving care of her son and daughter - could this have been daughter-in-law?)
- Raymond HUNSINGER, child of Mr. & Mrs. Solon HUNSINGER, of Colley, died July 4th, aged 5 years, 2 months and 11 days. Buried in Colley Cemetery July 5th, cause was Diptheria.
- Addie A. HUNSINGER, sister of above, died of the same, July 11 and was buried beside her brother the following day.
- Frederick HEICHEMER, escaped from State Hospital for the Insane at Binghamton on June 28th and the morning of June 29th was found in the park, the arteries in his left wrist severed and nearly dead from the loss of blood. He died the afternoon of the same day. The body was taken to his home in Overton for interment July 2nd. He was 54 years old and a veteran of the 7th PA Cavalry Co. B. He was in the mercantile business in Overton. About two years ago, he moved to Elmira and rapidly failed in health, being committed to the Binghamton asylum in Dec. last, suffering from melancholia. His wife and four children survive.
- Sonestown - The funeral of Mrs. Susan WILSON took place from the M. E. church on Friday morning, she was 3(?) years of age.

- Miss Mary CUMMISKEY died at the residence of her nephew Richard Cummiskey, in Wilmot Twp., 18 July, aged 74 years. Funeral and interment at St. Basil's on July 20th.
- Mrs. David ABRAMS, nee Emma ORMSBY, of Wilmot died July 7th, aged 53 years. The interment took place at Laddsburg, July 9th. She was a member of the Baptist Church and survived by a husband and four sons.

- Falling from a train in the Vosburgh tunnel of the Lehigh Valley Railroad, Joseph LYNCH was cut to pieces.
- Susie WOLF, 4 years old, died at Glades, York Co. from a pistol wound inflicted by her little sister while at play.
- Rt. Rev. Thomas MCGOVERN, died Monday evening at the Episcopal residence. He was born in Ireland in 1832 and came to this country with his parents when one year old.
- George W. BENDER Sr., of Cherry Twp., died July 20th, aged 79 years 2 months and 19 days. The funeral and interment was at Overton July 22nd at the Ref. Church with Rev. E. S. Noll officiating. He is survived by his aged wife, five sons and one daughter.
- J. D. REESER has erected a wind mill to pump water for his house.
- Lieut. Edgar F. COLLINS, brother of Hon. Emerson COLLINS, of Williamsport, was wounded in one of the fights before Santiago. He was brought to NY on the Seneca and taken to the hospital.
- Just before his departure for the war, Lieut. Ralph E. GAMBELL of Co. K, 5th Reg. was quietly married to Miss Helen, daughter of Capt. Elias HORTON, of Westfield, Tioga Co.
- Leonard DEEGAN, member of Co. D. 9th Reg., is seriously ill at Chickamagua with typhoid fever.

- Bernice - Mrs. Bridget O'CONNOR died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. James MCDERMOTT, Tuesday July 26th, aged 77 years. Interment at St. Francis' cemetery July 28th.
- Bella Sylva - Wm. R. PETERSON died Wed. evening after a long illness. A wife and seven children survive him. He was 56 years of age.
- C. W. CANFIELD, one of the prominent citizens of Athens, died very suddenly Saturday afternoon. He was a prominent Mason and veteran of the Civil War.
- E. F. JOHNSON, of Troy, was blown up in his workshop last Thursday and lived but a few moments. He was manufacturer of fire works and spent much of his time conducting experiments. It is supposed he was thus engaged when he met with the accident.
- Rev. and Mrs. E. S. NOLL received word Saturday that her grandmother was dead at Washingtonville.
- Mrs. Jerry DEEGAN started for Chickamauga Tuesday morning to nurse her son, Leonard, who is sick with typhoid fever. George T. DEEGAN accompanied her.
- Thomas GAINER, one of best known residents of Cherry Twp., died July 30th aged 67 years. He was buried at St. Basil's, Aug. 2nd. There were 144 carriages in the funeral procession.
- Anastatia, d/o Francis X. LUSCH, of Cherry, died in Philadelphia, Aug. 1st, aged 38 years. Her remains were brought to this place for interment Aug. 4th.
- Mrs. Daniel KELLY, of Forks Twp., died Aug. 2nd, aged 59 years. Funeral and interment at Overton, Aug. 4th. A husband and large family of children survive.
- Timothy COLLINS, of Overton Twp., died Aug. 2nd, aged 71 years. He was buried at Sugar Ridge, Aug. 5th.

- Albany Valley - John BARRY and Miss Ella WARD were married early Tuesday morning at St. Basil's Church, Dushore. They will honeymoon at Itheca, NY.
- Leonard DEEGAN, s/o Jeremiah, of this place, a member of Co. D. 9th Reg. PA Vol., died at Camp Thomas, Chickamauga Park, Aug. 9th, aged about 23 years. The body will be brought to this place for interment, but we are unable to give any of the details of the arrangements at this time. He had malarial fever.
- Walter SPENCER Sr. died at his home in Laporte, Aug. 4th aged 72 years. The funeral was Aug. 6th, Rev. J. H. Leach of Mechanicsburg, officiating. Deceased was one of the prominent citizens of Sullivan Co., having been county treasurer and other responsible positions. His aged wife and 6 children survive.
- Mrs. J. F. DEEGAN, of Long Valley, died Aug. 4th, aged 47 years. Funeral and interment at St. Basil's on Aug. 6th. A husband and 6 children survive.

- Basil MCMAHON died at the home of his parents in this place Aug. 10th, aged 29 years. Funeral and interment at St. Basil's Church, Aug. 12th - cause of death was consumption.

- Bernice - Mr. and Mrs. Thomas FITZGERALD, a son, Aug. 15th.
- Miles A. BURNS, of Cherry Twp., was struck by a Lehigh Valley freight train at the crossing immediately north of the Dushore station about midnight, Aug. 20th and his body was literally torn to shreds. A partially wrecked buggy was standing by the side of the track about a rod north of the crossing, and the indications are that the horse had become unmanageable and the buggy wheel caught against a switch post, throwing Mr. Burns out on the track, thereby stunning him or perhaps killing him and he lay there until the night freight struck him. His body was scattered a distance of 300 feet, where the lower limbs and an arm were found.. The remains were gathered up and taken to Tubach's undertaking rooms from where the funeral was held Monday morning. The horse returned home and Thomas, aged 16, son of Miles, drove to town to find his father, and learned the fearful truth. The funeral the next morning - survived by a wife and two children. Miles was about 45 years.
- George PERSUN, s/o Goodwin, of Picture Rocks, was killed in a mill at that place Thursday, Aug. 18th by being caught by a shaft and whirled to death. The body was brought to this place for burial Saturday with services held at the Lutheran Church and interment at Thrasher Cemetery. He was 13 years and 8 months.

- Rev. J. W. KLINGLER went to Williamsport Tuesday to attend the funeral of Chaplin William RICK, of the 12th Reg., who died of Typhoid Fever.

- Estella - Mr. Walter WARBURTON died on Saturday at his residence on Elk Creek. Funeral and interment took place at Hillsgrove Aug. 30th. Deceased was about 50 years and leaves a wife and two daughters.

- Charles S. MOORE, brother of the Captain, died last Wed. morning at Chickamauga of typhoid. The body was brought to his Bradford Co. home for burial. A wife and family of small children survive. He was in Company M.
- Glenn B. CHILSON, of Macedonia, the second man in Company M to succumb to the hardship of camping life. He died Wed. night of last week.
- Corp. B. F. WINNIE, of Meshoppen; Private John A. ELKINS of Towanda and G. H. WETMORE of Herrick are sick with typhoid.
- A. L. GRIM, an attorney of Sullivan Co., died at his home in Laporte on Sept. 3rd, aged about 79 years. Funeral and interment at Laporte on Sept. 6th. He was born in Chambersburg and came to this county from Huntingdon Co. in 1863. He was twice district attorney of Sullivan Co. His wife survives.
- Mrs. Sarah, widow of Daniel APPLEGATE, died at the residence of her granddaughter, Mrs. Samuel COLE, in this place Sept. 3rd, aged 88 years 10 months and 17 days. The funeral was on Tuesday at the Lutheran church and interment at the Old Zion Cemetery. She came to this place about 20 years ago with the family of the late Rev. R. S. WAGNER and has resided with her granddaughter since her marriage.
- Frederick HEINZE, of Elkland Twp, died Sept. 2nd aged 61 years. His wife and five children survive.
- Thomas P. RYDER, of Wilkes-Barre - a fine newspaper writer, best known as "Wouter Van Twiller" died at Lexington, KY on Friday of typhoid. He was regimental clerk of the Ninth.
- Albany Valley - Christian MILLHEIM died Tuesday, aged 80 years. Interment at Laddsburg Sunday. Three sons and three daughters survive.
- Private E. I. WILBUR, of Co. C., 9th Reg. was in town last Friday. He has a thirty days' furlough on account of malarial fever.

- Troy, Bradford Co. - a Cyclone visited about 5:30 Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 6th, during which William BRACE, a life-long resident of that vicinity, and C. M. COMFORT, of Mansfield, were struck by flying timbers and instantly killed. F. A. VOORHEES, of Mansfield was seriously injured.
- William H. GRAIFLY, of Cherry Twp. was assisting in driving some cattle to the railroad station at this place. After seeing them safe inside the yard he started for the depot, but stopped and sat down beside the road. A moment after he fell over on his side, and when his brother Lewis reached him, he was dead. Heart disease is ascribed as the cause. He was about 60 years of age, a farmer and had never been married.
- Elijah BURDICK, of Laddsburg, died Sept. 9th at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Ralph STEVENS. He was past 90 years of age. About 5 weeks ago he fell and fractured his hip. He has four children living. His funeral at Laddsburg was Sunday.

- James BRISTOL, of Athens, put a charge of bird shot into the anatomy of young Harry STREETER, whom he caught in his orchard and suspected of designs on his fruit. BRISTOL has been arrested and lawyers say he is subject to three years' imprisonment.
- Sonestown - Miss Clara KEELER stopped with her sister, Mrs. Robert SIMMONS, for a week's visit.
- Terrytown - Mrs. J. Herbet WELLS, whose death we mentioned last week, died Sept. 11th, aged 24 years. The funeral took place Sept. 13th, at New Era. Mr. MILLS, of Philadelphia, attended the funeral of his daughter, Mrs. WELLS.
- Mr. & Mrs. Fred SCHULTZ, of Lopez buried their little six months old girl on Sunday last.
- The four month old child of Mr. & Mrs. Jacob SETZER, of Mildred, was buried at Bahr's Hill last Saturday.
- Mr. & Mrs. Philip SHRIMP of Forks Twp., mourn the death of their only child, born about three months ago. It died a week ago Monday and was buried last Wed. at Peace Church.
- Hon. F. B. POMEROY, died on Thursday last. For nearly thirty years he has been prominent in the business and political life of this county. He was born in Troy, Bradford Co, 24 April 1826 and consequently at his death aged 72 years 4 months and 20 days. He is survived by his wife and three children: Mrs. Walter APPLEMAN of Wilkes-Barre; Mrs. Laura WADDELL of Dushore and Miss Emily POMEROY of Jersey City. The funeral was held from the late residence on the 19th inst. Interment at Bahr's Hill. (Note: The article contains a large write up on his life)
- John A. FUNSTON, of Bloomsburg, died Sept. 14th aged 78 years, 7 months and 5 days. A son, C. W. and two daughters, one of whom is married to Paul E. WIRT, survive him.
- Funeral of William H. GRAIFLY, whose death was mentioned last week, was held at Peace Church, interment in the church yard.
- Mrs. William PORTER, of Elkland Twp., died Sept. 14th, aged 27 years and buried Sept. 16th. A husband and three children, one an infant of two weeks, survive the death of wife and mother.

- Mrs. Sarah Stanley BADGER died at her home in Sayre, Sept. 19th, aged 89 years. She was the mother of R. M. BADGER, the Lehigh Valley Station agent in this place.
- Corp. Draper T. TERRY, of Co. M. 9th Reg. died at Harrisburg hospital on Sunday last of typhoid fever. His body arrived at New Albany Monday evening and the funeral and interment took place Tuesday. He was about 30 years old.
- Sonestown - Little Emerson and Mary COOK left for the Odd Fellows Orphans School near Sunbury Friday accompanied by their mother and grandmother, Mrs. G. PHILLIPS.

- Bernice - Frank MURPHY, of Shinersville and Miss Katie CUNNINGHAM, of Mildred were married at St. Francis' Church by Rev. J. A. Enright on Sept. 28th.
- Sonestown - Spencer STARR left Sat. for Emmons, where he began his school Monday.
- Sonestown - Misses Bertha MCCLINTOCK and Maud SONES, of Beaver Pond visited with friends in town over Sunday.
- J. C. DEININGER, Robert SIMMONS and William STARR spent a delightful week at Beaver Pond fishing - they came home with over 100 fish.
- Nelson ARMS, s/o Rebecca, was killed on July 1st in the 1st battle of San Juan. He was a soldier in the standing army for over 13 years and was home about 3 years ago. A mother and 5 brothers and a sister survive. He is one of the many who are sleeping on the battlefield of Cuba.
- C. E. PEALER requests us to thank the numerous friends who have been so kind during the illness and death of his father.
- James COOK and Miss Susie BROGAN, both of this place were married Sept. 4th at St. Basil's Church by Rev. X. A. KAIER.
- Hon. Russell KARNS and family of Laporte left Sullivan Co. Monday morning and returned to Benton, Columbia Co., from which place they moved to Laporte 19 years ago.
- Thomas PEALER died at the residence of his son, C. E., in Dushore on Sept. 30th, aged 87 years 5 months and 1 day. He was born in Luzerne Co. and first came to this place in 1858 and opened a boot and shoe store. He remained until 1868 and moved away. When his youngest son purchased the corner drug store in 1891 and removed to this place from Driftwood, he brought his father and mother with him. He is survived by his aged wife, four sons and four daughters. Funeral was held Monday with interment in Bahr's Cemetery.
- Mrs. Philip TUBACH died Oct. 2nd aged 53 years 7 months and 18 days after a short illness. She was born in Germany and came to this country when about 20 years of age. She first married Barnabas BILLIAN who died some 8-9 years ago. About three years, later she married Philip TUBACH. Two sons, Joseph BILLIAN of this place and Edward BILLIAN of Wilkes-Barre survive. Funeral and interment at St. Basil's on Oct. 5th.
- Bernard DUNNE, died at the home of his son in law, John BRENNAN, at New Era, Sept. 30th, aged 73 years. Funeral and interment at St. Basil's on Oct. 2nd. (Note: See "Barney DUNN" below in this issue and article next week.)
- Ringer Hill - Mrs. B. F. BABCOCK has been seriously ill for the past week but is improving.
- Albany Valley - Mrs. Peter FARRELL, of Bradford is visiting her brother, Thomas NORTH and other relatives.

- Albany Valley - Mrs. Harry HUNSINGER of Colley visited her sister, Mrs. Charles HOPKINS at New Albany last Saturday.
- Terrytown - Joshua WELLS of Towanda, is spending some time with his daughter, Mrs. Raphael HOOVER at Rienzi.
- Terrytown - Nelson J. ROBBERTS and Miss Lou RACE were married last week by Rev. C. W. Lane.
- Terrytown - Wayne BABCOCK, of Cortez PA, a son of Myron, formerly a resident of this place, was visiting friends last week.
- Terrytown - Josiah REESE and wife, and Milton REESE and wife of North Mountain were visiting friends on Norway Ridge last week.
- Terrytown - Bernard DUNNE died at he home of his son in law, John BRENNAN, near New Era Sept. 30th. He was 73. Born in Ireland in 1825. His daughter, son in law and 8 grandchildren survive him. He was laid to rest at St. Basil's Cemetery, Dushore Oct. 2nd. He was a skilled land scape painter.
- Bernice - Mrs. John BOYD, of Dushore, spent Wed. & Thurs. with her daughter, Mrs. H. W. TAYLOR.
- Raymond I. STEELE and Miss Emolyn M. NORCONK, both of Wilmot Twp., were married at the Ochs Hotel, Towanda on Sept. 29th by Rev. D. L. Kepner.
- J. D. GILBERT, of Light Street, Columbia Co. and Miss Minnie MCCARTY, of Elkland, were married at the parsonage in Millview by S. F. Frazier on Oct. 6th.
- Lewis HUNSINGER and Miss Addie BAHR, both of Cherry were married at the Reformed Church in Dushore by Rev. E. S. Noll on Oct. 11th.
- The five year old son of J. K. SILVARA died on Sunday noon. The child was playing in a box of excelsior which in some way was set on fire and before he could be rescued was so badly burned that death came to his release in about an hour. (Towanda Review)
- Donald TUTTLE died last week Tuesday of typhoid fever at his father's home at Allis Hollow, Bradford Co. He was one of the pall bearers at the funeral of Charles MOORE, a member of Co. M, who died at Chickamauga on Aug. 31st last. The other five young men who officiated as pall bearers, all Sons of Veterans, are also sick with the same disease.
- Later - Benjamin BURGESS, another pall bearer died Sunday. Another young man named VIBBERTS is not expected to recover. The death of two pall bearers is attracting widespread attention, but according to medical authorities the disease was not contracted as a direct result of their attendance at the funeral. Across the road from the church where the funeral was held is a house where there was at the time a case of fever, and all the pallbearers as well as others, drank at the well in the door yard.

- The Forkston Coronet Band will hold a fair Oct. 25-29. Twelve bands are invited to be present on the last day and contest for a $75 prize.
- Jefferson T. JACKSON died at his home in Lopez Oct. 18th, aged 38 years, one month and 5 days. A wife and 5 children survive. Funeral will be Oct. 20th from the house in Lopez to Dushore where service will be held at the Lutheran church, interment at Wilmot.

- Bernice - Mrs. Clayton LEWIS of Greenwood was a guest of her brother, Daniel SCHOONOVER, last week.
- Robert RAMSEY and Miss Maggie COLLINS were married at the residence of the bride's parents Oct. 20th by Rev. J. W. Klingler of Dushore.
- People at Ricketts are erecting a new church 32 x 48 feet. Both Lutheran and Evangelical denominations will worship there regularly. The new church should be done in about two months.
- Mr. & Mrs. F. H. FARRELL had a surprise party last Thursday - it being the eighteenth anniversary of their marriage.
- Mr. & Mrs. Harry BIGGER are rejoicing over the arrival of their first born, after seven years of childless married life. It is a boy born Sunday morning.
- Terrytown - Mr. & Mrs. J. A. FOX, a son born Oct. 9th.
3 Nov. 1898
- Miss Julia COYLE, of Laddsburg went to Phila. Monday morning where she will enter the convent of the Sisters of the Good Shepard. Two of her sisters are already inmates of the same institution.
- New Albany - Mr. & Mrs. J. K. SILVARA, a daughter.
- New Albany - Mr. & Mrs. Nelson NORTON, of Lopez, a son.
- Sonestown - The funeral of Frank E., only son of Mr. & Mrs. Chas. STARR, took place from the home of his grandparents, Mr. P. E. MAGARGLE, on Monday morning. He was 5 years, 5 months and 7 days of age and only sick but a few hours prior to his death. The sermon was preached at Lairdsville where the burial took place.
10 Nov. 1898
- Bernice - Prof. James RUTHERFORD, well known band master and musician and Miss Cora THAYER, of this place, were married at Waverly, NY on Nov. 1st by Rev. W. Bently. The bride was given away by her brother, William.
- Mrs. Mary, widow of Dr. WENDEL, formerly of Colley, died at the residence of her only daughter in Ashley, aged 83 years 9 months. Funeral services in Ashley, remains brought to Colley and Funeral held Friday in St. John's Lutheran Church at Wilmot.
- Peter KEECH, an eccentric individual, who lived alone in a log hut near Fields Station, was burned to death in his dwelling Thursday night. He was 70 years of age. Several parties had been seen at his home that evening and it is said the old man and his visitors had been drinking heavily. Soon after the visitors left residents of that vacinity discovered the building on fire. When they reached the house they found Keech's body on the floor burned to a crisp. The authorities are investigating.(Canton Sentinel)
- From the upper window of the residence of Albert BUNNELL on Bunnell Hill, Wyoming Co., one may look into five counties - Luzerne, Lackawanna, Sullivan, Wyoming and Bradford.

- Bernice - Mr. & Mrs. Jas. CONNOR, of Mildred, a daughter on Nov. 8th.
- Mr. & Mrs. G. E. KIRKENDALL were called to Franklin last week to attend the funeral of a niece.
- Albany Valley - Peter GIBBS, of Albany died at Danville, Nov. 12th, aged about 43 years. The cause of death was typhoid pneumonia. The remains were brought to his home Tuesday. Interment at Overton, Wed. (Note: See next week's issue with article on what appears to be the same death, but with different facts).
- Mr. & Mrs. Luke MCKERNAN - a son - recently.
- Terrytown - Mrs. Wm. ROBERTS, of Lexington, Neb. returned home for a visit - her first visit since her departure nearly 20 years ago.
- Sonestown - Miss May SIMMONS visited her sister, Mrs. James BUSSLER, at Hughesville recently.
- The funeral of Mrs. Sadie SCHAFFER, of Muncy Valley, took place at the M. E. Church Sunday morning, interment at the Sonestown Cemetery.
- Peter GIBBS, of Albany Twp., Bradford Co., died at Danville, Nov. 12th of typhoid fever, aged 52 years 9 months and 4 days. A widow and 8 children survive.
- Adam L. NEAL, died at Lopez Nov. 11th, aged 16 years 7 months and 2 days. He was the son of William and Elizabeth, who came to Lopez from Monroe Co. Death was caused by typhoid fever. Funeral on Sunday from the United Evangelical Church of Lopez.
- Reason CONNOR, brother of Cyrus CONNOR and Mrs. Jacob THRASHER, of Cherry Twp., died at his home in Ewing, Nebraska, Oct. 7th, aged 56 years. He was born in Columbia Co., where he resided until 1884; he was one of the pioneer settlers of Holt Co., Nebraska. He leaves a wife, 2 sons and 1 daughter besides his brother and sister.

- Mrs. Ellen BOLDEN, an aged colored woman of Williamsport died in that place last Tuesday, aged 104 years. She had been married 3 times and was the mother of 8 children.
- A. J. BOYLE, aged about 24, was found in the woods about a mile and a half below Hillsgrove on Nov. 18th. He was lying as if asleep, his head resting on his arm. There was a bullet hole in his left hand and another just above the heart. It was clearly indicated suicide, and a coroner's jury returned a verdict to that effect. He was the son of William BOYLE of Hillsgrove.
- H. C. PARSONS, a prominent and widely known member of the Lycoming Co. bar, died at his home in Williamsport on Nov. 21st, aged 64 years. He served in the Rebellion as sergeant of Co. A. 11th PA and as Capt. of Co. B. 115th PA. He was a member of the Constitutional Convention of 1873-4, and had been president of the West Branch National Bank since 1882. In 1882-3 he was mayor of Williamsport.
- Peter LYNCH, a Hazleton printer, was found lying in the street on Sunday morning with his skill crushed. He died that day, and an attempt is being made to catch his murderer.

- Albany Valley - Mrs. QUINN and family left last week for their future home in Towanda.
- Why is it a boy of 20 can run a mile or ascend a flight of stairs three at a time, while his sister of the same age can't run a hundred yards or walk up a flight of stairs without becoming exhausted? It is easy to answer this question! Of 'corset' is.
- John HOTTENSTINE, one of the well known citizens of Overton Twp., died Nov. 23rd, aged 66 years, 1 month 18 days. The funeral and interment took place at the Reformed Church in Overton on the 25th. Death was due to typhoid pneumonia.
- Nelson WOODHEAD, of Millview, moves to Atlanta, Sussex Co., Delaware next week where he will make his future home.
- Sonestown - Mrs. BRINK and family of Eaglesmere were visiting her parents, Mr. & Mrs. J. N. HAZEN.
- Sonestown - Mr. STRYKER, of Montoursville, visited his daughter, Mrs. Philip RYDER.
- Sonestown - Misses Rita and Erma and Taylor ARMSTRONG, accompanied by Miss Pearl HOUSEKNECKT, spent Thanksgiving at their grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Benj. TAYLOR, of Strawbridge.

- Cherry Mills - Samuel HUNSINGER has started a birch distillery.
- Harry MANLEY, Wilmot RUNDELL and Charles GLADY, of this place, who enlisted in Co. M 9th Reg. when it was organized and served until it mustered out, went to Williamsport Monday and enlisted in the regular army. They are now in Huntsville, Ala.
- Ross R. SNELL, s/o Mrs. J. A. BAUMGARDNER, of this place, enlisted in the regular army last week at Wiliamsport. Another son, Frank W. SNELL, was a member of Co. B. 12th Reg., until it mustered out.

- Bernice - Mr. & Mrs. Michael GILLIGAN, a girl on Dec. 2nd.
- Bernice - Mr. & Mrs. H. W. TAYLOR visited Mr. TAYLOR'S sister, Mrs. Fred PRICE at Arnot, Chemung Co., NY.
- John JORDAN was buried at St. Basil's in this place on Thursday last. He was employed in the woods at Bear Creek, below Hillsgrove, and on Dec. 5th was badly injured by rolling logs. He died on the Monday following and his body was brought to this place for burial as stated above. He was about 40 years of age and leaves a wife and three children.
- The old cemetery at Athens is said to be so badly overcrowded that, in digging new graves, bones, skulls and coffins are sometimes unearthed. The News wants the town council to hereafter refuse burial permits.
- Rev. David CRAFT, of Lawrenceville, for a number of years pastor of the Presbyterian Church in Wyalusing, has received an urgent call to take charge of a Presbyterian Church near Baltimore, Maryland.
