This section was inspired by Ernie Hatton of Winter Park, FL, a frequent contributor to our page. The photos come from Karen Lane, a descendant of this Rogers family. In the picture above, we see Duke William Rogers and his wife Ellen Castleberry/Casselberry (Note: There are two alternate spellings). The Muncy Luminary for Jaunary 14, 1852 recorded their marriage on January 8 of that year by John J. Crouse, Esq. Both are listed as residents of Lycoming County. The little girl is their daughter, Elizabeth Delephine Rogers. See her picture below as an old woman. Duke was the son of Reuben and Nancy (Sidman) Rogers, and was a private in the Union Army in the Civil War. He was also the grandson of Samuel Rogers and Ann Grant, the original Rogers family emigrants who came to Philadelphia in 1801. Samuel worked there for a while, then bought land from Joseph Priestley in what is now Sullivan COunty in the area of Shrewbury and Eaglesmere. You can learn more about this Rogers family history in the Streby History of Forks Township and Forksville. Reuben, born December 3, 1798, was one of eighteen children, ten of whom survived to adulthood. Here is the lineage of this branch of the Rogers family down to today: 1 Reuben Rogers b: 3 DEC 1798 d: 24 JUL 1850; son of Samuel Rogers, b. 1755 in Barmsley, England, and Ann Grant
