OBITUARIES

Harry C. Burk Dies At Age 82

The death of Harry C. Burk, 82, of 213 South Orchard Street, (Berwick) occurred Thursday morning at 11:20 in the Berwick Hospital, following an illness of several months. He had been a patient three weeks.

Mr. Burk was born in Columbia, York County, and had been a resident of Berwick most of his life. For a period between 1919 and 1940 he resided in Kingston.

Prior to his retirement 17 years ago, he had been an employee of the former ACF Industries, Inc. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Knapp Lodge 462 F&AM of Berwick, and Caldwell Consistory, of Bloomsburg.

His wife, the former Mayme Houck, preceded him in death in 1961. Surviving are three sons, Paul Burk, Wilkes-Barre; Frederick Burk, West Palm Beach FL; Melvin Burk, Oakland, Calif; a daughter, Mrs. Claude Shappelle, sommerville, NJ, two brothers, George Burk, Norwalk Conn; Walter Burk, Dayton OH; two sisters, Mrs. Harry Kreisher, :Hollywood Calif; Mrs. Sadie Schank, Peach Bottom, and several grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 10;30 AM at St. John's Lutheran Church, with the Rev. E. Edward Keyser officiating. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Walnut st.

George Oliver Burk, 87 of 55 Wolfpit Avenue Norwalk, husband of the late Mrs Marion Walker Burk, died Tuesday evening in Norwalk hospital.

Mr Burk was a retired pattern maker and owned B & F Pattern Shop in Norwalk before he retired.

He is survived by one son Charles A. Burk, Norwalk, four grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren, one brother Walter Burk Dayton Ohio, three sisters, Mrs Albert Begley of New Haven; Mrs Sadie Shank of Peach Bottom, Pa and Mrs Harry Kriescher of Hollywood Fla.

Services will be held Friday at 11 AM in the Raymond Funeral Home. 5 East Wall Street, Norwalk, with Rev. Richard A. Thornburg pastor of the Norwalk United Methodist Church officiating. Internment will be in the family plot in Riverside Cemetery.

Mrs Sara Shank Succumbs at 80

Mrs Sara E. Shank , 80 of Peach Bottom R1, died at 2:10 am Tuesday at Duke Street Convalescent home, where she resided for the past five years.

She was born in Peach Bottom, York County, but lived most of her life in southern Lancaster County. She was a daughter of the late Charles and Nora Lundy Burk.

She was the widow of Thurman Shank, who died in 1954. She was a member of Little Britain Presbyterian Church, the Fulton Grange No. 66 and the Drumore Floral Club.

She is survived by two sons Ralph L. Shank, Harrisburg and James T. Shank, Quarryville; two daughters Maurguerite, wife of Harry Steele, Peach Bottom R1; and Nora wife of Ernest C. Feiler, Holtwood; seven grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; a brother Walter Burk, Danton Ohio; and two sisters Annie Begley, Hamden Ct; and Blanche, wife of Harry Kreischer, Hollywood Florida

Titusville Anna M. Begley, 88 died Tuesday at home.

Born in Pennsylvannia, Mrs Begley lived in Hamden Conn. For many years before moving to the area five years ago.

She was a member of the Summerfield United Methodist Church of New Haven.

Wife of the late John A. Begley, she is survived by a daughter Jean B. Owen of Titusville, a sister Blanche Kreischer of Cooper City, Fla.; two grandsons Goff Owen III of Indianapolis, Ind.; and John Owen of Titusville; two granddaughters; Sherrill O. Farkas of New Haven Conn. And Allison A. Owen of Ocean City; and a great granddaughter.

Funeral services will be 2 pm Friday from the Beecher and Bennett Funeral Home, Hamden Conn. With Burial in Hamden Plains Cemetery..
