Lewis A Kipp mustered in on 15 March 1865 when the 2nd Regiment, Potomac Home Brigade was reorganized into a smaller command.  Lewis served on guard duty in West Virginia. This regiment was mostly employed in guarding the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad from New Creek (now Keyser, West Virginia) to points east of Cumberland, Maryland.
