Jonathan Bon Wagner was born 1 Aug 1846 in Shade Township, Somerset County, PA, the eleventh of 13 children born to Jonathan & Sevilla Wagner.

Jonathan served in Company K, 5th Regiment, PA Heavy Artillery under the name John Wagner.  He enlisted as a private on 30 Aug 1864 at Johnstown, PA and was mustered out with his company at Washington, DC on 30 Jun 1865.  Regimental hospital records show him with catarrh on 6 Dec 1864, but he returned to duty 8 Dec 1864.  His records show no further disability. 

 On 3 May 1868, Jonathan married Catherine McGregor at Buckstown, Shade Township, Somerset County, PA. 

Jonathan applied for a pension on 9 Oct 1886, but no pension records were found.

Jonathan died 28 Oct 1889 in Buckstown, PA and is buried in McGregor Cemetery, Cairnbrook, PA. 

Catherine applied for a widow’s pension on 10 July 1890.  The pension record lists 6 of their 10 children were under the age of 16 and still at home, the oldest of these being 14 and the youngest not quite 2.  Catherine received her widow’s pension until her death in April 1925.   She is buried in McGregor Cemetery, Cairnbrook, PA beside her husband and their son, Martin Luther Wagner.
