Edward Cook

Edward, second son of Susanna and James, was born in 1839. He was married to Catherine Ellenberger on 01 Mar. 1860 in Bedford Co., PA, by Nicholas Kegg, Esq. The 1860 census shows Edward and Catherine living in Stonycreek Twp. with his parents. They had a daughter Margaret, born 02 Jan. 1861 and a son Charles Edward, born 05 Aug. 1863. Edward enlisted on 26 Aug. 1864 as a private in Co K, 5th Regt., PA Heavy Artillery under the command of Capt. Kent. He died from Typhoid Fever on 05 Oct. 1864 at a hospital in Fort Sumner, MD.  Mary Pyle Palmer writes in her book The Ancestors and Descendants of Herman and Catherine Lowry Ross, that Edward died while burying the dead from Bull Run. Edward is buried in Arlington National Cemetery in Section 13, burial site 9104.
