ROBERT A. HANNAH,
a merchant in Sharon, was born in Crawford county. Pennsylvania, January 31, 1859, a son of
John and Christiania (Hay) Hannah. The parents were born in Scotland, but coming to this country they were married in Crawford county, Pennsylvania, and their union was blessed by the birth of eleven children, of whom seven are yet living. namely:
James K., a native son of Crawford county; Elizabeth, the wife of
Harlow Ellis; Agnes, widow of John Johnson; John H.; George; Hattie,
wife of William Thatcher; and Robert A.
Mr. Hannah, the father, came to the United States when a young man, some time in the early thirties, making the journey in a sailing vessel, and after landing in the harbor of New York City he drifted into Pennsylvania and located in Crawford county. He was a wagon maker by trade and followed that line of work in Meadville, this state, up to within four or five years of his death, which occurred in 1863, at the age of forty-two years. His wife died when forty-two years of age, both passing away in Meadville. In politics he was a Republican.
Robert A. Hannah lived at home until 1879. when he came to Sharon, Pennsylvania, and engaged in the hardware amid junk business, being a member of the firm of R. A. Hannah & Company. This firm was organized in 1879 and consists of Mr. Hannah and his brother. John H. He is a member of Sharon Lodge No. 250, A. F. & A. M., of Norman Chapter No. 244. R. A. M., of Rebecca Commanderv No. 50, K. T., and is past eminent commander of this commandery and a member also of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, Lodge No. 103.
He married Olive
Willson, a native daughter of this city, and her parents, James M. and Mary (Quimbv) Willson,
were also from Mercer county. In their family were eight children, and the five now living are:
John R., Anna, widow of Edward Eckles, Olive, Herbert and Mary.
