Dr. Robert Love, 1931


Dr. R. J. Love, inspiring head of the Bible department at Westminster College since 1921, has retired according to information given out at the meeting of the college board of trustees Monday morning. Dr. Love has not been in good health all year.

A graduate of Westminster in the class of 1885, Dr. Love has had a distinguished and purposeful career. He received his M.A. degree from Westminster in 1889, was graduated from the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary in 1892, received the Ph.D. degree from Westminster, in cursu, in 1894, and was given the honorary D.D. degree by his alma mater in 1928.

From 1888 to 1890, Dr. Love was pastor of the united Presbyterian church of Lebanon, Missouri, and district missionary. He was, from 1890 to 1903 professor of pedagogy and history at Knoxville College. He was principal of the Oakland school of languages, mathematics, and history in Pittsburgh from 1903 to 1906. He is a member of Pi Gamma Mu honorary social science fraternity; and a member of the Historical Society of Western Pennsylvania.

Dr. Love is the author of three books on religious subjects, and has contributed many articles to church publications. He was one of the founders of the Holcad, student newspaper at Westminster. He has been a teacher of men's Bible classes, and has been an excellent influence on the Westminster campus because of his sterling character and his popularity with young people.

Dr. and Mrs. Love plan to retire to their small estate in Lockhart, Florida, near Winter Park. Here they have a fine home, a small farm, an orange grove, and a small private lake. Dr. Love will spend some time in study and will preach occasionally.
