Hall Braham Gives His Life For America
New Wilmington Enlisted Boy Dies At Fort Myer Wednesday Night
PNEUMONIA IS CAUSE OF DEATH
Was Chemist At Burton Powder Works And Westminster Graduate
Hall Braham of New Wilmington is the first Lawrence County enlisted boy to give his life for his country, since the war with Germany started. He was a member of Company C, 30th U.S. Engineers, and was located at Fort Myer, Virginia. His death occurred last night about 6:30 o'clock and was caused as the result of an attack of pneumonia.
Westmister Graduate
The deceased was a son of R. R. and Olive Wilton Braham of New Wilmington and was 26 years of age. On December 4, he enlisted with the 30th Engineers and was immediately sent to training camp. Before enlisting Mr. Braham was employed as a chemist with the
Burton Powder Works where he worked for two years, being one of the most popular men at the plant. He was also a graduate of Westminster college, class of 1915 and his cheerful disposition made his a favorite with his classmates. He also attended the New Wilmington Presbyterian church and was a active worker in
the various societies.
Anxious To Enlist
Mr. Braham was anxious to enlist and to aid the United States in the present war with Germany. His comrades at Fort Myer esteemed and respected him. He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. R. Braham of New Wilmington, two brothers, Walter Braham, a teacher in the Johnstown high school, and Leonard W. Braham who is stationed at Camp Douglass, Arizona, being a member of the Headquarters Co., 14th Regiment, Field Artillery; and four sisters, Eleanor and Olive who attend Westminster college and Mary Elizabeth and Lillie Ina at home. Mr. braham was also a great nephew od Mrs. S. E. McCleary and Miss Belle Braham of this city.
The body will be brought to New Wilmington where interment will be made. Funeral arrangements have not been completed and will be announced later, it being very probably that military honors will be a part of the ceremony.
