Bookwalter Passes Away At U.S. Camp

East Side Young Man Is Victim Of Spinal Meningetis Attack

Still another name has been added to the list of New Castle boys who have given their lives in their countries service. Francis L. Bookwalter died yesterday morning at 9:15 at Camp Hill, Newport News, Va., after an illness of three months of spinal meningetis. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. John S. Bookwalter of Beckford street were with him when the end came.

Francis Bookwalter was 20 years of age in March, 1918. He enlisted in January of this year in the quartermaster's _____ and after being sent to several camps for temporary training he was stationed at Camp Hill where he died.

Before his enlistment he was assistant manager of the Woolworth five and ten cent store here. He was a young man of sterling character, an active member of the Third United Presbyterian church choir. He had a pleasing tenor voiceand the Sunday before leaving sang _ solo at the church service.

When their son was taken ill Mr. and Mrs. Bookwalter were informed and they left at once for Newport News where they remained two weeks. The son was so much improved then that they came home and were here two weeks when they again received word to come at once. They remained at his bedside constantly for two months.

Besides his parents the young soldier leaves one sister, Mrs. Lloyd McKee of Neshannock Boulevard, to mourn his death.

The funeral party arrived from Newport News shortly afternoon today, but funeral are yet incomplete.
