WELCOME TO NORTH EAST TOWNSHIP!

Hi. I am Dick Tefft and I have agreed to be township coordinator for North East. I am a life-long resident and am retired. I am an avid fisherman and also an avid family historian and very much interested in local history.

I am Past-President of the Erie Society for Genealogical Research (ESGR) and currently serve on the board of the North East Historical Society. I have been doing genealogy for over fifteen years and am at a point where I am actually more interested in finding information that will help others more than in doing my own genealogy.

I have a particular passion for cemeteries. I have visited every cemetery/burial site in Erie County and am presently compiling a book on how to locate every one of these sites, including map coordinates. This book will also include data on each site such as type of cemetery, burial dates/time frame, and for active cemeteries, who has the cemetery records for you to contact. I am also working with Mercyhurst College to do an archeological survey of all the cemeteries.
