EARLY SCOUTING IN ERIE

Clarence Edward Seyler, son of Edward Joseph and Elizabeth A. Wittel Seyler, was born 16 August 1903 in Erie, PA. He married Mabel Claire Geiger, daughter of James Henry Holt and Nannie Gibson Geiger.

The obituary of Mr. Seyler, 6 May 1975, contains the following information regarding his contributions to Scouting in Erie.

"Along with Dr. P. P. Parson and Mr. Charles Brugger, Mr. Seyler founded the Cub Scout movement in the City of Erie and was also an active Boy Scout Leader at St. John's Lutheran Church."

His son, Neil, recalls his mother also served in the Scout program with Den meetings in their home and working on various service-oriented projects.
