Erie Daily Times – Wednesday 28 Aug 1968

Mrs. Lubov Baranoff, 73, of 1022 Evergreen Drive, formerly of Los Angeles, CA, died Tuesday at Hamot Hospital after an extended illness.  She lived in Erie, at the home of her daughter, for the past 4 years.  Surviving are her husband, Dr. Alexander F. Baranoff of Erie, a daughter, Mrs. Con (Sophia) Tolkach of Erie, and two grandchildren, Kenneth Tolkach and Alex Tolkach, both of Erie.   Services will be at Holy Trinity Orthodox Church, this evening at 6 pm.  Divine Liturgy will be said Thursday morning at 9:45 at the church.  Interment will follow in Laurel Hill Cemetery. 

Erie Daily Times – Thursday 13 Nov 1997

Mary F. Graziaho, age 82, of 3334 West 42nd Street, died Monday, November 10, 1997 at St. Vincent Health Center.  Daughter of the late Frank and Santa (Pettinato) Vona.  Beloved wife of Russell F. Graziano.  Mother of Mrs. Carl (Roseanne) Rundquist, Mrs. Lee (Audrey) Jamison,  Frank A. Graziano and his wife Jean and James R. Graziano and his wife Janet, all of Erie.  Sister of the late Mrs. Carmen (Helen) Marinelli and Dominic Voga.  16 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.  A prayer service will be held at Francis V. Kloecker Funeral Home Friday morning at 9:30 followed by the Funeral Mass at St. Paul’s Catholic Church at 10 am.  Interment in Laurel Hill Cemetery. 

Erie Daily Times – Thursday 13 Nov 1997

Daniel R. (Pony Man) Castonis, age 83, died Tuesday November 11, 1997.  Residence 3404 North Street, Wesleyville.  Widower of Catherine Castonis.  Father of Marilyn Watson and her husband Larry of Harborcreek.  Brother of Carolyn Pollock and Dot Williams and her husband Robert, all of Indiana, PA.  Dear friend of Nina Kamirfski of Erie.  Four grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren also survive.  Funeral Services on Friday at 11 am at Dusckas Funeral Home.  Interment at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery. 

Erie Daily Times – Thursday 13 Nov 1997

Gerald J. Calabrese, age 62, residence 219 Monaca Drive, died Monday November 10, 1997.  Husband of Renee Caldwell Calabrese, father of Christopher and Michael Calabrese, both of Erie.  Also survived by an uncle Harry Haulth of Erie an aunt, Amelia LaJohn of Erie and several nieces and nephews.  Prayer services will be at 9:30 am on Friday at John J. Quinn Funeral Home.  Mass will follow at 10 am in St. Patrick Church.  Interment will be in Trinity Cemetery.

Erie Daily Times – Saturday 18 Oct 1986

Dorothy Slayton Jenkins, 56, 611 E. 21st, died Wednesday at Hamot Medical Center.  She was born in Mount Vernon, IL, July 20, 1930, a daughter of Louis R. and Annie Mae Jones Slayton.  Mrs. Jenkins was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church.  Besides her parents, survivors include five sons, Larry Carroll, Terry, Richard, and Michael Jenkins of Erie, and Ronald Jenkins of San Diego, CA, and two daughters, Shirley Northern of Fort Washington, MD and Anna Jenkins of Erie.  Burial will be at Erie County Memorial Gardens. 

Erie Daily Times – Saturday 18 Oct 1986

Jane Elizabeth O’Connor, 64, 4125 Dexter Ave, died Friday morning at St. Vincent Medical Center.  She was born in Erie, daughter of the late Harry and Edna Trussell Schuwerk.  A lifelong Erie resident, she was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Attorney Gerald P. O’Connor, who died in 1964.  Survivors include her daughter, Mrs. John (Joan) Konzel of Erie; a granddaughter, Mary Lynn Konzel of Erie, and a cousin, Mrs. William (Joann) Nicholson of Harbor City, CA.  Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.

Elma Jordan Higby, age 70, died Tuesday July 23, 1974, residence 1216 Rankine Ave., Lawrence Park.  Wife of Walter A. Higby, mother of Mrs. Shirley Derk, Herndon, PA., Mrs. Albert (Mary) Warren, Erie, Herbert S. Higby, Wesleyville, Gerald L. Higby, US Air Force, Donald J. Higby, US Army, Robert A. Higby, Erie, Charles D. Higby, Harborcreek, Russell L. Higby, Erie.  Sister of Mrs. James (Thelma) Sayers, Miss Ethel Jordan, Harborcreek, and Hobart Jordan, Erie.  Preceded in death by a daughter, Judith Marie Higby.  Also survived by 14 grandchildren.  Internment at Lakeside Cemetery. 

Erie Daily Times – Friday 04 Feb 1972

Herbert A. Mason, 87, of 1505 South Shore Dr., died Thursday at his home.  The son of the late Henry A. and Elizabeth Stongel Mason, he was born in Columbus, Ohio, July 22, 1884.  Mr. Mason was the owner of Mason Memorial Studios, 3803 W. 26th.  He was a past president of the board of directors of Laurel Hill Cemetery and belonged to the American Institute of Commemorative Art.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Rotary Club, Kahkwa Club, the Erie Club and the Erie Yacht Club.  He is survived by his wife, the former Bertha Gano of Erie; and a daughter, Mrs. Frederick (Mary Jane) Fischer of Charleston, VA.  Interment will be at the convenience of the family. 

Erie Daily Times - Saturday 13 Jun 1987

Ada Bunce Wheattall, 98, formerly of Springfield, died Thursday at St. Vincent Medical Center. She was born in Cambridge-Springs on Oct 1, 1888, the daughter of the late Myron and Ida Johnson Bunce.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Wheattall Sr., a son, Claude Wheattall Jr., two sisters, Ethel Hoover Blair and Edith Atkins.  Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Ralph (Florence) Cox of Conneaut, Ohio, and Mrs. Albert (Eleanor) Szuchmanski and Mae Cochocki, both of Erie, ten grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.  Burial will be at Springfield Cemetery.

Floyd L. Gustafson, 71, formerly of Erie, died Wednesday at the Freedom Care Pavilion, Bradenton, Florida.  He was born in Kane on May 2, 1916.  He had been employed at national Forge Company in Erie and worked as a salesman for the Ruberoid Company in Erie and Rochester, NY.  He sang with the Uthinanun Chorus and was a life member of the Commonwealth Lodge, Free and Accepted Masons, the Scottish Rite, Bodies and the Egypt Temple Shrine of Florida.  Survivors include his mother, Pearl Hanson; his wife, Shirley Armagost Gustafson; two daughters, Mrs. Allen (Karen) Welter of Borth Olmstead, Ohio, and Mrs. Guy (Kristina) Taylor of Penfield, NY and a sister, Helen Webster of Largo, Florida.  Burial will be at Mansion Memorial Park in Ellenton, FL. 

Erie Daily Times - Saturday 13 Jun 1987

Emanuel Fratus, Jr., 60, of 1436 W. 35th, died Thursday at Hamot Medical Center following a brief illness.  He was born in Erie on Dec 17, 1926, the son of the late Emanuel and Louise Black Freitas.  He served with the Merchant Marines on the Great Lakes.  He was a mechanic at the City of Erie Municipal Garage and was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.  He was preceded in death by his step sister, Marjory Ratajezak.  Survivors include his wife, Eleanor Benechi Fratus, his step mother, Candida Freitas, three sons, Robert and James E. Fratus both of Erie and Daniel J. Fratus of New Mexico, a step sister, Eleanor Felix of Erie and five grandchildren.  Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery.

Lawerence B. Willey, 72, of 403 W 3rd, Waterford, died Friday morning at St. Vincent Medical Center following an extended illness.  He was born in LeBoeuf Township on Oct 14, 1914, a son of the late Charles and Sylvia Boyd Willey.  He was a lifelong resident of the area and was a retired employee of the Fort LeBoeuf School District.  He was preceded in death by one daughter, Winona Kibbe, in 1970, by a brother, Leon Willey, and by a sister, Opal Benson.  Survivors include his wife. Alisa Brown Willey, to daughters, Mrs. George (Sandra) Wilcox and Mrs. Neil (Renee) Reynolds, both of Waterford; two brothers, Merle Willey of Waterford and Everett Willey of Meadville, one sister, Mrs. Asa (Thelma) Smith of Morgantown, NC, eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.  A graveside service will be held Saturday at Waterford Cemetery at the convenience of the family.

Erie Daily Times - Monday 12 Nov 1973

Margaret Stelzer, 79, 426 Halley, Lawrence Park, died Saturday at Erie Osteopathic Hospital.  Born in Unionville, PA, she had lived in Erie most of her life.  She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen.  She is survived by her husband, George Stelzer, two daughters, Mrs. Fred (Martha) Cooper of New Philadelphia, Ohio, and Mrs. John (Evelyn) Schlipf of Erie; two brothers, Maurice Flick of Harborcreek and Hobart Flick of Geneva, NY; two grandchildren and a great grandson.  Interment will be in Laurel Hill Cemetery.

Erie Daily Times - Tuesday 06 Dec 2005

Rebecca (Becky) Tuberson, age 88, formerly a resident of Wesleyville, died Saturday, Dec 3, 2005, at Ball Pavilion.  She was born in Erie on July 7, 1917, daughter of the late Raymond and Kathryn Cline.  She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church.  She was a graduate of Wesleyville High School, class of 1935, and also Erie Business Center.  She was employed with 1st National Bank for 20 years, retiring as a secretary.  Becky wintered in Bradenton, FL for 19 years and was an avid golfer.  The widow of Clarence W. Tuberson, who died on Oct 20, 2002, survivors include three sons, Raymond C. Tuberson and his wife, Sandra, of Fairfax, VA., Donald C. Tuberson and his wife Marilyn, of Millcreek Twp., and William H. Tuberson of Edinboro, one daughter, Heidi Lynch and her husband Lee of Vacaville, CA, ten grandchildren; four great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by a sister, Laura M. King.  Internment will be at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.

Elva J. Weber, age 81, residence 1022 West 7th Street died at the Lutheran Home, Sunday, July 12, 1981.  Wife of the late Louis O. Weber.  Sister of Mrs. Evelyn Johnson, Oberlin, Ohio and Harry Johnson of Warren, PA.  Sister in law of Elsie Langsderf.  She is survived by several nieces and nephews.  Internment in Erie Cemetery. 

Erie Daily Times - Monday 31 Jul 1981

Elmer Everett Zimmer, age 81, of 3037 Pacific Ave, died Sunday July 12, 1981.  Beloved husband of Esther Gilbert Zimmer, father of Mrs. Dick (Shirley) Trombetta, David & Donald Zimmer.  Brother of Mrs. Mildred Carr, Mrs. Kenneth (Ella) Kilbane, Mrs. Laura Gilbert and Floyd Zimmer.  Also survived by nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.  Internment in Dunn Valley Cemetery.

Christian G Kramer, Sr., age 67, of 214 Lincoln Ave, died Saturday, November 27, 1982 at his residence.  Husband of Elizabeth Birkland Kramer; father of Mrs. Kenneth (Karlyn) Schmitt, Peoria, IL, Mrs. Robert (Marta) Harris, Bloomington IL, Christian G. Kramer, Jr. and Matthew B. Kramer, both of Erie; brother of Leonard Kramer, Gloucester, NJ, and grandfather of Katrina and Kelly Schmitt and David Harris.  Interment in Laurel Hill Cemetery.

Erie Daily Times - Tuesday 17 Oct 1978 

Allan Hoover, age 50, of RD 2, Albion, died Sunday evening at the Veterans Administration Hospital, after a short illness.  He was born July 5, 1918, at Platea, son of Roy and Jessie Hoover.  He was a retired US Air Force major and a member of the VFW of Albion.  Survivors include his wife, Ruth Hubbard Hoover; one stepson, Donald J. Kaiser of Las Vegas, NV, his mother, Jessie B. Hoover of Lundsy Lane; two brothers, Emmett E. and Elwin H. Hoover, both of Albion and one sister, Mrs. Kenneth Osterburg of Fairview.  Interment will be in Spring Cemetery, Springboro, PA.

Erie Daily Times - Friday 16 Apr 1999

Carol J. Pyle Moorehead, 57, a resident of Lakeview Estates Personal Care Home Northeast, and formerly of McKean, died Thursday, April 15, 1999, at her home.  She was born in Erie, Sept. 13, 1941, a daughter of the late Grover and Rose Balsiger Pyle.  She worked in the General McLane High School cafeteria for 10 years and was an electronics assembler at Spectrum Control, Inc for another decade.  She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in McKean.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick Moorehead, in 1983; two brothers, Robert and James Pyle; and a sister, Lois Pyle.  She is survived by two sons, Gregory Moorehead of Florida and Jeffery Mooreheard of Edinboro; a brother, John Pyle of Fairview; five sisters, Berdena Williams, Evelyn Del Porto and her husband, William, and Marilyn Banister and her husband, William, all of McKean, Helen Bonnett and her husband, William, of Lake City and Joyce Hobbs and her husband, Jim, of Edinboro; and several nieces and nephews.  Burial will be at the convenience of the family at Sterrettania Cemetery.

Francis “Frank” Carrol Smith, 63, 938 W. 29th Street, died Tuesday Dec 4, 1990.  He was born in Brewer, Maine, July 29, 1927, a son of the late Albin and Henrietta Welch Smith.  Mr. Smith had been an electronic draftsman at Elgin Electronics for 19 years.  He was a member, officer, and past president of the Cardiac Fitness Club and a member of North Coast Striders.  For 26 years, he had been a “jack of all trades” volunteer at Camp Notre Dame, where he also was the cook for the off-season programs.  He was featured in the imes-News Sunday Magazine on Sept. 30, in “Between the Lines.”  He was honored at a testimonial dinner on Sept. 30 at the camp’s Ranger Post.  Survivors include his wife, Florence Belfontaine Smith; five daughters, Theresa Lucas of Union City, Mrs. Rodney (Frances) Barton of Edinboro and Linda Smith, Mrs. Michael (Susan) Aleksandrowicz and Mrs. Richard (Catherine) Klofft, all of Erie; a son Alan Smith of Erie, and 12 grandchildren.  Burial will be private.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Camp Notre Dame.

PIOTROWSKI – Tuesday, Jan 6, 1953, Mary Mikula Piotrowski, wife of Frank Piotrowski, age 43, residence, 1310 German Street; daughter of John and Barbara Mikula, sister of Mrs. Adam Konopeka, Mrs. Joseph Otto, Mrs. John Fallcon, Miss Barbara Mikula, John, Michael, Joseph and Andrew Mikula.  Friends may call at the Quinn Funeral Home, at any time and are invited to attend the funeral services in St. Patrick’s Church Friday morning at 9:00 o’clock.  Members of the Ave Maria Society of St. Patrick’s Church will meet at the Funeral Home Thursday evening at 8 o’clock for prayers.

Straub, and brother of Mrs. Carl Meyer and Mrs. W.P. Neal, Frank and Harry Straub.  Funeral services at the Brugger Funeral Home, Friday afternoon at 9 o’clock.  Rev. H.L. Christie will officiate.  Friends invited to call and attend the services.  Interment in Lakeside Cemetery.

Florence Schatlock Latpinski, 71, died Tuesday in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Edward Krajczynski, 2112 Reed St., after an illness of six weeks.  Mrs. Latpinski and her husband Joseph Latpinski would have been married 60 years on Feb 6.  Besides her husband she is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Krajczynski; one son, Frank L. Latpinski; two grandchildren and one brother, Paul Schatlock, Homestead, PA.  Services will be held Saturday at 7 am from the residence and at 7:15 am from St. John’s Church.  The body will then be removed to Homestead, PA.

Maria DeCara, 80, wife of the late Michael DeCara, died Tuesday night at her residence, 602 W. 3rd St., after an extended illness.  She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Thomas (Rose) Wilhelm and Mrs. Angeline Barber, Cleveland, Ohio, three sons, Joseph DeCara of Uniontown, PA, and James and Lewis DeCara; 21 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.  Friends may call at the St. George Funeral Home and are invited to service Saturday at 8 am in the funeral home, followed at 9 am in St. Paul’s RC Church.  Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Juliana Kawinski – Prayer services were held Wednesday morning at the John L. Hanley Funeral Home for Mrs. Juliana Kawinski, 606 E. 21st Street.  A funeral Mass was celebrated immediately after at St. Stanislaus Church by the Rev. Joseph Radziszewski.  Burial was in the St. Stanislaus section of Trinity Cemetery.

Erie Daily Times - Thursday 16 Jan 1975

Anne Frawley, 88, 353 W. 6th, died in Western Reserve Convalescent Home Wednesday after an extended illness.  She was born in Buffalo, NY and had been a resident of Erie most of her life.  She is survived by two nephews, James Geary, Minneapolis, MN, and Robert Geary, Chicago, IL.  She was preceded in death by a niece, Anne Geary Wheeler, and three brothers, James, Michael and John Frawley.  Burial will be in Tonawanda, NY.

William J. Gleisner, age 53, 311 E. 12th, died at the Veterans Administration Hospital Tuesday.  He was born in Erie on April 6, 1921, a son of the late Matthew Gleisner, Sr. A painter, he worked with several painting contractors as well as the Erie Works of General Electric and the A.O. Smith Company.  He was an Army veteran of WWII.   Surviving are a brother, Matthew Gleisner of Erie, two nieces and two nephews, three aunts and an uncle.  Private funeral services were held at Francis V. Kloecker Funeral Home.  Interment was in Calvary Cemetery.
